Blood Contract

"We lost," he said.

Even I who heard that felt not so surprised. Anyway, I can already guess this. But still, I always hoped that victory would be on our side.

"But don't blame yourself" he continued, looking at me deeply.

I smiled coldly at Chen Li, then nodded in understanding. I lowered my head briefly, before panning it back.

"Actually, I blame myself a little. But I know, it's not entirely my fault; and it's not your fault that you fought with me. Anyway, we've been trying. I'm sure, what we do is not in vain, because as we continue to try, there will be valuable things that we get," I said.

Chen Li looked at me seriously with furrowed brows. I saw, he sighed, then came closer to me.

"I feel it too. I'm too arrogant. I felt so strong, that I slightly underestimated my enemies. In fact, come to think of it, even in your eyes I am indeed very strong, but I am weak in some ways. At least, because of the defeat, I became aware of my mistake, so that I could introspect myself, then observe, correct, and revise it. After all, defeat is not always the end of everything" I continued.

Chen Li smiled as well. He patted my head slowly, then began to speak words that sounded annoying in my ears. "It's not wrong that I fell in love with you" he said.

What the fuck?!

Did dying also make her veins break?

"Looks like death really changed you" I said.

I stared out of the tent, from the open part. There, the hot sun, looks very hot. At least, thanks to the white color that reflects light, I became not too hot in the tent in this weak state of my body.

"Then why aren't you where you're supposed to be?"

"I promised."

I wrinkled both my eyebrows. He looked at me sharply. Even after death, his face still looked very haughty.

"Promise? To whom?" my many.

I went back to drinking water and drinking it. My body trembled slightly as I felt the freshness of the water soaking up my esophagus.

"To myself. I promise to take care of you until the end of your life. When I was dying, I swore I wanted to be the spirit that would protect you" he replied.

I raised my eyebrows and looked at him in wonder. He breathed a long breath. His thin pink lips, then pursed— reminded me of the expression of the little boy who was sulking.

"Kem—"

"Don't protest anything! Asking me to leave, you're telling me to betray myself. I promised, and a knight will always keep his promise" he said.

"Don't ask me why! The point is, I did it because I was worried about you. You also know how I feel about you, right?"

How regrettable. He cut my words back.

Then, I just nodded with a flat expression.

"But I don't need protection from weak spirits like you" I said.

Kusorot looks at his irritated face. Her nose is bloated with several strong breaths. Her lips are bent upwards. His eyes narrowed, while his thick eyebrows swooped inwards.

"Liar however, as a spirit, I also have my own supernatural powers. All my life, I was a general—a leader. So I'm sure that I can also gather my own spirit army" Chen Li said.

I smiled at him broadly. Then I felt something that bothered me—caused an itch on my face.

Now, even my unraveled, messy hair I put behind my ears. I opened my mouth.

"What power do you have? I would not have a spirit whose supernatural power is weak. You know, your rival is the figure of the Spirit Captain who has a lot of troops—his strength is fire and land," I said.

I see, Chen Li is looking at me even more. Again, I just pulled both corners of my lips.

"Captain only. I am a general. I can make many captains my subordinates. Although I actually don't know what my power element is, but I'm sure I'll become very strong, surpassing that Spirit Captain. Anyway, no matter what happens, I'll be with you. I forced you to do a blood contract with me."

I looked at him in disbelief. The top of my lips twitched after hearing his statement. This is the self that is always confident. Then, didn't I tell you that he was also very annoying? After all, which spirit was willing to surrender himself to do the blood contract voluntarily?

Ah—but, he has also sworn. Perhaps, the effect is the same as when we do a contract, where when the master dies, his spirit will also die. So ...—

"No need to think much. Let's give you your blood. You also get the advantage, right? Wouldn't it be that if we did the contract, I could share my power with you? It's not gonna get you if we don't."

I scratched the back of my head, then sighed.

Actually, it's still hard for me to believe, if this figure in front of me, it's really Chen Li—General Four— my dead colleague. I couldn't even believe he was gone, and at first, I didn't expect to see him again like this.

"I don't expect you to regret it."

I took out a knife that was beside where I was lying earlier, which was probably deliberately placed just in case. Without fear, I hurt my fingertips.

When my blood was about to drip, Chen Li drew close to his face until the red liquid, falling on his mouth. Before long, a strange light enveloped us, then a small-sized unique symbol appeared on my arm as well as on Chen Li's neck. In this way, the blood contract has been officially done.

"I will not regret my own decision. Catch that. Moreover, it's for you—for the person I love." My heart was beating strangely when I heard that statement.
