THE PERTIWI HOPE HIGH SCHOOL
The morning was very bright. The sun was shining warmly at exactly 07:30. All of the students were marching in the middle of the field because of a very urgent matter to be conveyed by the Headmaster. Some of them knew what was going to happen, but most - who were generally well-off students - did not understand the reason the Headmaster was to hang them under the sun for an hour of study.
"The names I called, come forward!" The heavy voice that was forced to sound angry without losing its prestige, boomed. Everyone was shocked when they heard it.
The names are called one by one. There were thirty-six mixed-class disciples who were now standing in front of the podium, facing the hundreds of students who were marching. They stood down with both hands behind their backs. One of them is Jambul, the head of a gang of school thugs who are subscriptions to BK. The crest on his head was withered as it was soaked by sweat. The name Jambul pinned to him since the tenth grade because of the hairstyle that became his trademark.
"The last two names I will call are the ones I regret the most. To break my heart into pieces just by imagining it." The Headmaster let out a heavy sigh, "Reagan Bagus Sujiwo Narendra. Selena Mareen Lubis's. Move forward!"
Directly heard. Christian and Mindy looked at each other before they noticed Selena's back drifting away to get out of line.
"Those who stand before you are children who do not know themselves! Humiliate the school by joining brawl!!" The Headmaster said in flames. A sweat poured down from the top of his half-bald head. His face was reddened by the sun as well as anger.
"How many times have I said, NO LAUGH!! If you want to be a hotshot, just follow the martial arts! Our extracurricular activities are no less! Taekwondo, karate, capoeira, just choose! Spend your energy on sports instead of brawls! What are you guys doing, huh?! A thug?? If you want to be a thug, please resign from this school! There is no need to trouble the crowd to look for trouble! You don't feel sorry for your parents who worked their bones to support you, huh?!" The Headmaster took a deep breath before continuing, "This is the last warning I gave. If until there is a case like this again, no matter who is involved, then I will immediately drop out! Understood?"
All the students answered 'Understand, sir' in unison.
"For you, shameful stars of today, your punishment is to be suspended for three days, to go around the field a hundred times" a murmur of protest from the brawlers heard yesterday. But it was immediately cut by the Headmaster, "-and cleaning all the toilets in the school was no exception!"
Fifteen minutes later, Reagan and Selena were already in the cool Principal's room because the Air Conditioner was installed at the lowest temperature. The two stood clumsy with a look at the floor.
"Now explain the chronology of your version!" The Headmaster's tone of voice was already not as good as it was in the field, but his deadly aura was still the same. Reagan and Solar looked at each other. Solar doesn't want to be the one to explain yesterday's incident to the Principal. Reagan immediately caught the intent from the look in his eyes.
"We're just in the wrong time and place, sir." Reagan. "We were on our way to my house to study together" He gulped, "discussing the last physics subjects about the possibility of life other than on earth. If you don't believe me, you can ask Hana directly, "he's fast.
"Then why do so many testify that they saw you fighting?" asked the Headmaster in a full-fledged tone.
"We're stuck there. What should we do if the other side thinks we're their enemy?" Reagan immediately shut his mouth when he realized his sarcasm question just now sounded cynical. "I mean, we're just trying to defend ourselves. We're really not involved in that brawl plan, sir. Just imagining it is impossible" he continued.
The headmaster was thinking as if he was imagining the possibility. Reagan's explanation makes sense. It felt very unlikely that two of the most brilliant disciples of the province like Reagan and Selena spent their time engaged in brawling. It can smear their record of achievement.
Reagan and Selena are both ambitious in terms of academics, although the personalities of both are quite different. Reagan diligently studied and excels in the field of basketball. The school basketball team has been a regular champion since Reagan joined the team. Another case with Selena who tends to be genius. The child never seemed to learn or seriously listen to the lessons in class. He also did not participate in any activities at school. But he has a long list of portfolios in non-academic fields. Starting from the routine of donating blood, volunteering for nursing homes, internships at large law firms - which the Headmaster later found out was his own - every semester break, Opanya, to become a zoo volunteer has also been done.
Reagan and Selena were both interested in science and mathematics. Both are often Olympic participants to the national level. In essence, two students as brilliant as them were too busy competing so there was no time to hang out with wayward conspirators, let alone participate in brawls between schools. It feels too much to think about. The Headmaster finally came to a conclusion.
"Even if you are not involved, sanctions will still be given to you for being seen there." The Headmaster raised his index finger as Reagan opened his mouth to protest. "Your sanctions are lighter than others. Run around the field thirty times. You don't need to be suspended."
Despite the objections, Reagan shut his mouth. He is quite grateful because there is no need to be suspended and explain the reason to the Father. At least they don't clean school toilets like the others.
Such is.
For the rest of the day, Reagan and Selena spent thirty times touring the football field. The scene was noticed by Mindy and Christian from the third floor of the school building during the second break. They stand side by side. Their eyes could not be separated from Selena and Reagan.
"What kind of rare situation is this?" Christian said, sticking his thumb under his lips. Both eyebrows are tied.
"Selena?" Mindy asked to make sure, her hands were moving constantly to fan the face. Christian nodded. "Don't I tell you since yesterday? I don't think you heard me." Mindy pouting.
"You're his best friend. Did he ever tell you anything?"
Mindy shook her head, "We rarely talk in class. He never picked up my phone. Her phone was off every time I called. How're you? Your house is next door."
"Lately I've been busy training. When I got home, I went straight to sleep. Where to meet him!"
The two are silent to each other. Their eyes can't be separated from Selena's figure.
"What do you think Selena's planning without telling us?" Keep Christian.
Mindy shrugged her shoulders. "It's not like this habit. At least he'll tell one of us about his plan. You sure he never talked to you? Try to remember again!"
"If this plan involves Reagan as I thought, I would be happy to help him. I've been wanting to teach that kid a lesson for a long time."
"What's wrong with you Reagan?" Ask Mindy curious.
"His persistence bothers me." Christian answered with mystery.
Mindy frowned, then suddenly hit Christian's arm with her hand fan. "Soky cool! Are you Selena?"
Christian rubbed his arm that had been hit. "Because of him, I've never been selected as a basketball team!" Christian's words are fiery.
"That's it, because your play is not good!" Mindy commented while clicking her tongue.
"Don't forget that I was selected for the national junior team at Junior High!" Christian Reply. Mindy simply responds by turning the eyeball. He turned back to his face, breathing out.
"Since we got back from the field trip, Selena's been clinging to him." Christian continued to comment, his head is still busy analyzing.
Suddenly Mindy closed her fan with a rough "Ah!" yells. "Selena once said that she often thought about Reagan because she felt indebted to him."
Christian's mouth is round. "You think Selena's returning the favor? By following Reagan everywhere?"
"I think Selena's trying to figure out what Reagan wants. We understand the nature of Selena. Reagan was not an approachable person. Selena won't give up."
Christian's turn to click the tongue. "Why bother, anyway?" His grunt.
Elsewhere, Reagan and Selena are still serving their sentences. They have run around the field ten times. Reagan was soaked in sweat. The sun was shining brightly, as if adding to the torment of punishment for him. Reagan always had excellent physicality, but running around the football field as much as this is certainly draining. Unlike the Solar that looks fresh fit without a drop of sweat.
"Are you okay?" Solar aligns its steps with Reagan's focus on breathing while running. The one asked did not answer. Solar watched the sweat that flooded Reagan's body in wonder. "A human being can draw out this much water. It was futile." He then gulped, suddenly feeling thirsty.
Reagan's pace slowed, as did Solar. "You bought me a bike" Reagan said as if remembering something. His tone wanted to be sure, but it didn't sound like a question. Solar nodded with a smile.
"You likey?"
"You bought me a hybrid bike for eight and a half million. Then send it to my house like sending a regular package containing online groceries."
Solar nodded again. "The shop says free of charge."
"You're crazy, huh?" Now Reagan's tone of voice was really like a question.
"Why indeed? You lost your bike yesterday. I told you I wanted to buy you a gift with the black card I had."
"Why did you do it? I owe you so much. Bicycles are too expensive for me. I'll return it later." Reagan continued his run.
"That's it. All your debt will be paid off if you take that bike." Reagan stopped his steps and looked at Solar deeply. "We break even if you receive the bike" continued Solar. Reagan just shook his head, feeling inexhaustible. He turned to continue his sentence. Solar ran behind him. Feeling victorious, Solar flashed a faint smile.
"It cost eight million seven hundred and fifty thousand."
"What?" reagan was confused.
"Bicycle price. You were almost right when you guessed it." Solar precedes Reagan. He enjoyed every moment he made Reagan dumbfounded.
"Sister-of-arms!" I heard screaming from behind. Reagan and Solar compactly turned to the origin of the sound. For a split second, Reagan felt deja vu as he saw a horde of children led by Jambul running up to them. The crest approached Solar with a wide grin. He remembered yesterday's brawl.
"Hi," said Solar without spirit. Because of Jambul and his gang, he became involved brawl. This morning he was only lucky that Reagan made their punishment lighter than the others.
"My sister must be tired of running around the field. Here let Jambul carry!" The topknot took a crouching position in front of Solar, making them all stop.
Reagan snorted blatantly.
"You lied to me. You said yesterday's battle was for the nation's sake." Both of Solar's eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"The laughter, that is," Reagan murmured while holding back a laugh.
Jambul got up, put on a fierce look while staring at Reagan, making his guts shrivel. Then his expression changed as he looked at Solar. "Sister misunderstood. Yesterday we did fight to defend the beloved Harapan Pertiwi High School. Sister know why?"
Solar shook.
"The Children of the Nation's Flowers beat Ucok yesterday. Sister knows who Ucok is?"
Solar was shaking again.
"The boy was the son of the Canteen Maid. He's like our first brother."
Reagan scratched his head. He remembered Ucok son of one of the sellers in the cafeteria. The unemployed guy whose job is just hanging out behind the school. He is often seen with the Jambul gang sharing cigarettes and drinking ice from plastic.
"So you guys got revenge?" tanya Solar's making sure.
Jambul. "Sister knows Ucok is now in the hospital? Haven't been home for a week because he broke his leg and his shoulder is tetanus because he was stabbed with a crowbar." Both eyes rounded convincing. "Thanks to Sister's help yesterday, our grudges have been avenged. Since our grudges are avenged, we want to thank Sister. Well, let's get on Jambul's back, let's run together!"
Solar looked at Reagan in doubt. But Reagan didn't care. He continued to run so that his sentence was quickly completed.
"Wait moreover? Come aboard!" Now it is the turn of the Jambul hordes to gather to encourage Solar to immediately climb to the back that is wet with sweat owned by Jambul. "Wet little, it's okay, huh? I just mopped the toilet." Cengengesan. Solar. All the Jambul hordes cheered happily.
Instead of being tortured for having to go through the punishment of running around the field a hundred times, their entourage is more like a convoy. The excited cries coming out from their mouths attracted everyone's attention. The headmaster who was then coincidentally passing by on the sidelines to throw his shoes at the group because it was considered too noisy. When he saw Selena who was being paraded around the field, the Headmaster just stroked his chest, hoping that the smartest student would not go wild because he was hanging out with Jambul and his accomplice.
