A birthday party? Birthday party he said?

NO, IT'S A WEDDING!

I glanced all over the room. There are only adult demons holding each other's partners. No demon of my age has come. No balloons contained scrolls of paper inscribed with various challenges. Outside were guards checking on the guests.

Really.it's not a birthday party.

I sat on Edgar's lap several times playing with his long hair. I'm not allowed to eat anything. Edgar seemed worried that the same thing would happen again.

His face seemed calm, indifferent, not caring much about what was happening. But his eyes were always on standby, glancing all over the room. He also coded each other with some people I didn't know. It seems he's planning something.

"Papa."

His attenuation is now completely distracted by me. He removed a pinch of his long hair from my hand, then asked, "What's wrong?"

"Elish bored."

He let out a long breath, glancing for a moment at someone who was in the middle of the party crowd. He carried me, taking me away from the crowded and boring middle room of the palace.

"What do you want?" Edgar asked while we were on our way.

I fell silent, giving him a question mark.

"I mean your birthday present. What do you want?"

"Ooh, that's.." I paused for a moment, putting my index finger on the lower lip. I don't know what I want either. When I was in the human world, I had everything. Except for my parents' love, of course. They love their jobs and their infidelity more than their children. "May I make Elish a garden? The garden is full of colorful flowers and shady trees, there are also tables and chairs for papa and Elish to spend time with!"

Edgar was silent, stopping his steps while looking at me. "You sure you want that?"

I nodded quickly. "Elish wants to spend a lot of time with papa!"

Now Edgar's feet are back. "I don't like gardens with colorful flowers. It makes me sick."

"Then just plant the higanbana flower. Papa likes higanbana, right?"

Edgar frowned. "Who told you that?"

I looked down, speaking in a weak tone. "Lilya told me."

Edgar leaned my head against his chest, gently rubbing my head. "This information is not 100% true. I not only love higanbana, but other red flowers."

Edgar nodded for a moment. "Well, the day after tomorrow there will be a garden full of red flowers in the southwest of the palace, near the dragon statue."

"Horay! Elish, dear papa!" I wrapped my hands around her neck, not forgetting to give her a kiss on her left cheek.

He was silent, not responding. Not even smiling at all. Truly.es eternal.

"We have arrived."

I look ahead. There is a dead tree—without leaves—which emits a blood red glow. The tree was exactly like a banyan tree, only without hanging leaves and roots. The diameter is wide, but the trunk is not too high. The branches look big and sturdy.

Edgar took out his bat wings, flying slowly towards one of the tree branches. "Touch that branch" he ordered as he floated near one of the tree branches.

I nodded, gulping for a moment. Fearfully, I brought my right hand closer to the tree branch. My black nails look shiny in the red light. And when my hand touched that tree branch, my black nails turned a luminous red.

I looked at Edgar, asking what was going on. But he was focusing on something, closing his eyes while touching a tree. I closed my eyes and felt the change that was coming next.

1 second...

2 seconds...

3 seconds...

There's no change...

5 seconds...

"Sugly and very weak, like a mosquito. I could kill you in one pat."

I was shocked, keeping my hands away from the tree. "Papa, there's a whisper in Elish's ear." I looked around, it was just me and Edgar here. There's no one.

Is that the sound of this tree?

Without keeping his hands away from the tree, Edgar told me. "This is the Tree of Eternity. This tree was possessed by the spirit of the noble demon ancestor, Lilith. You said someone whispered in your ear? That's Lilith, Felice. My ancestors, and your ancestors."

I was stunned for a moment, touching the tree branch again while closing my eyes. But I did not have time to talk to Lilith, Madam Amber instead came and brought news that made Edgar smile horribly.

"The spy was caught."
