The Beginning Of The Ruler

The Beginning Of The Ruler
Chapter 20: I Want To Be An Adventurer

Cyrus Academy, an institution hailed as the noblest refuge for would-be witches who have the privilege of having the background and talent to enter. There were several other academies scattered throughout Xafir Kingdom, but needless to say, the level between that second-rate school and Cyrus was insurmountable.

It was a type of Titan Cyrus Academy. Those who are qualified to graduate from this academy are guaranteed a future and a prosperous life. There were rumors that the best graduates could even be honorable guards, instructors or military leaders for the Royal Family, for the King of the entire human race on the continent. Of course, some chose to go the simpler route and focus on research by joining one of the magician guilds. However, it was no exaggeration to say that the students of Cyrus Academy were praised as true elites, even among nobles.

Now, here I am, standing in front of the Director of the academy. Normally, any eight-year-old child — hell, anyone — would love to be in the presence of someone so rich, but I can't help but look annoyed at the unexpected guest.

She was a very tall woman, standing about 1.7 meters tall, well above the average woman here. He restrained himself with a very upright and calm attitude. He was wearing a simple yet elegant navy blue robe, clad in golden thread. He wears a magician's hat, an accessory that looks like a large traffic cone that reinforces the absorption rate of mana around him but often comes with other functions. Tied to the side of his robe was a crystal-white wand with a glowing jewel attached. Even my foolish eyes could see that this stick was precious. Surprisingly, her face had very gentle features that reminded me more of a friendly grandmother next door than of a very important power figure, but the aura she had around her made her seem like a fairy; her wrinkles were unable to cover the attractive face she had. The crow's foot engraved on the outer end of her brown eyes actually strengthened the appeal of her smile as she introduced herself.

"It's nice to finally meet you, Arthur," she said as she extended her hand.

What should I do in this situation? Do I have to shake it or does someone who has strength like him expect me to kiss his hand or something?

I just went the safe route and shook his hand.

"Err.. Nice to meet you too, Director."

The director seemed a little surprised by my introduction.

"White! You are not polite! It's a pity for my son, Director Woodsky. He just got home and doesn't know about formal customs." My mother pushed my head down with her hands while bowing, kneeling.

Apparently, when meeting someone who has a high position, it has become a habit to kneel and shake hands, while bowing.

How foolish.

"My nails, no, it's okay. No offense at all. And please, Arthur, call me Lilia." He laughed politely with his free hand covering his mouth.

"I'm sorry I bothered you this late, but unfortunately, the only free time I can get is after my meeting tonight. I hope you don't mind" he explained, staring at my parents.

"No no no, we're grateful you're willing to take the time just to visit our son." My father was the one who spoke this time.

With the amount of formality, I began to wonder if this granny could be compared to Grandpa Victor.

Director Lilia nodded at this. "True, not too often I travel home to visit prospective students. Otherwise, even with a hundred corpses, I won't be able to adjust the time."

"However, Alex is a good friend and has contributed greatly to the Cyrus Academy. So when she excitedly came to me about the miracle living in her house, I couldn't help but get excited as well. I have to say that my curiosity is controlling me. Do you mind taking me to an open space so I can see the demonstration?" He continued, his gaze fixed on me in a way of judging.

"Can I at least eat for nothing!" My mother slapped my ass before I could finish my sentence.

"of course! Please follow us, Director Lilia." My mother escorted me, leading Director Lilia while the others followed.

My dinner…

Eve, who was hiding under the dining table of a foreign human, ran behind me, causing Director Lilia to raise eyebrows.

"Yes .. Mana Beautiful Beast. I assume it's your contracted beast, Arthur?" he asked me curiously while kneeling down to look at Eve closer.

"Yes, she hatched a few months ago. Her name was Eve, "I answered briefly, my mother's hand was still holding the back of my shirt so I wouldn't run away.

"Should I say, while nobles buy animals to contract, I've never seen a beast like yours."

Shrugging, I explained, "I'm not sure what he is either. His mother looked like a scaly wolf-like creature. He was already severely injured when I stumbled into his lair. He protects the eggs. "

She reached out to caress Eve but she ran away and climbed over my head.

"Sorry, he's kind of shy around strangers."

"I understand. Pretty good about him. Let's see if what Alex says is not excessive. He didn't tell me much unless you were an Augimenter, saying the rest would be a surprise." He smiled wryly, making Alex blush.

We had arrived in the backyard and everyone was sitting down, giving us enough space, Eve struggling to escape the grasp of my little sister, whom I entrusted to her.

"You're not gonna use your cane?" I started to stretch.

"It's not fair for me to use a weapon when you're on your own with your bare hands, is it?" He gave me a blink.

He made a solid point.

I stomped my right foot to the ground and a piece of land the size of my body was pushed upwards. My hand lazily went into my pocket so I kicked the stone towards Director Lilia.

A wall of wind appeared instantly in front of him, dropping the rock I had just kicked up high into the air.

Ooh, Insta-casting.

I guess he's not just a director sitting in front of his desk signing papers.

His eyebrows shot up in shock at the surprise attack I threw at him, but he quickly calmed down. I knew he didn't expect any elemental attacks from me, especially since he knew I was the Augimenter.

I willed a gust of wind under my feet and pushed myself towards him.

His expression grew even more startled as I easily jumped three meters into the air with the help of my wind attribute skill as whirlwinds swirled around enveloping my right hand. Using the boulder that the Director had just crushed as a foothold, I kicked it to gain enough momentum to break through the barrier.

The collision of her two spells created an erratic current of wind, forcing the audience to cover themselves.

The collision made me retreat, but Director Lilia remained standing tall. Before I could rearrange myself, the director had already completed his next move as the gusts of wind whirled and formed themselves into four whirlwinds the size of small trees. Even without any visible command from her, the twisters shot themselves at me.

Gathering the mana attribute wind around me, I would form a small tornado around me, twisting in the opposite direction from Director Woodsky's spell. Using the centrifugal force generated by my cyclone, I began to spin with it, using my hands to make blades of wind.

The clash between my four tornadoes and my typhoon created a small crater but otherwise did no harm to me other than to make me very dizzy.

"impressed. I think I should take you a little more seriously."

As soon as I was thrown back, my ears were ringing and my gaze was wobbly.

He was a deviant .. a voice wizard at the time.

I steadied myself, glancing at my opponent who was looking back at me with a slightly impressed expression on his face.

My head started spinning, trying to think of the various possible moves I could take to win, but he told me to checkmate. Suppressing my pride and stubbornness, I sat on the ground, admitting defeat.

"That should be enough for a demonstration, right, Director?" I rubbed my temples.

"Yes, that's enough" he murmured. There was a long pause when he started studying me with a newfound interest.

"W-White...You how can use earth and wind attribute spells as well?"

"What do you mean, 'also'?" Director Lilia interjected, her calm appearance turning into an expression of confusion.

My mother went on for my confused father.

"H-he, my son, we thought he was the fire element. He was also a deviant who could use lightning magic!"

I could hear Director Lilia's breathing becoming short, and for the first time, her expression as someone was completely shocked.

"J-certainly you are kidding..You mean he can control the three elements?"

"Four actually. I can control all four, "cut me. Anyway, everyone will know. It's not something I can, or want to hide.

"Earth and wind are my weakest elements. I'm much more adept at controlling fire and water. It just so happened that I also strayed in both elements, even though I had just started practicing in them." I got up to my feet, removing my navel from the previous attack.I didn't expect any sound users so I didn't bother raising my ears. The director was pretty cruel. If my body does not go through assimilation, my hearing will be severely damaged.

No one responded to what I had just said, the only voice nearby was the chirping of a cliche cricket. It was understandable that they would be shocked like this, but I was getting tired of that surprised expression.

The figure of the Nobles who controlled the most prominent school on the continent, stumbled forward, barely reaching a chair. Then, unexpectedly, he started laughing. He started out with a small laugh, but it soon escalated into a wild laugh that I thought was like sheer excitement.

Finally, turning towards me, he said, "Arthur, if I may repeat, you are a quadra element capable of controlling two higher elements, right?"

I'm also a Dragon Tamer, but that's all. I wonder how they would react if I told them that.

"Right," I immediately replied, not bothering to explain further.

"Please show me." Director Lilia's eyes became threatening and the once friendly grandmother now had the look of a veteran assassin as she raised her hand, the surrounding mana fluctuated.

Suddenly, a gentle breeze began to suck me towards him as a visible ball of wind formed in the palm of his other hand.

This lady…

I willed water into my right palm and a thick fireball in my left hand. She was dying to see; I just had to show her.

Combining the two opposing skills together, I created a huge cloud of steam, completely enveloping us both from the sight of others.

The steam cloud did not last long against the wind magician, but it gave me enough time to make an ice spear. I quickly positioned myself after throwing the ice spear just as the steam was gone. As expected, the director easily blocked my ice spear right before I was within range to land a fist encased in lightning. However, just like before, I was blown away by the powerful sound waves. Fortunately, I had strengthened the mana in my ears, but there was no way for me to approach it.

"Well! I must say that I am absolutely sure! you graduate, Arthur White." He clapped his hands, breaking the silence.

Wake up, I clean myself up. This demonstration has left me with mixed feelings. I was frustrated on the one hand because there was a figure that I could not even touch, let alone lose. However, for the first time, I began to seriously consider the potential value of learning in Cyrus. If I could have a professor who was at a level near Director Woodsky, my magic would make the leap.

"I'm sorry for hiding this from you guys" I said, turning to my parents. I was a bit worried that my parents might be angry for hiding this from them, but luckily, my father accepted it well.

"My son is the first quadra element!" He scoops me with my armpits and swings me like he did when I was a baby.

Suddenly, traumatic memories began to reappear.

"Please White, there are no more secrets." My mother only smiled wryly, worry still etched on her face.

I can't promise her that, but I believe it's for her protection, not for my comfort.

"Forget the quadra element, on this continent, there are not even three elements other than you, White.." Jessica chimed in, her voice faltered.

"Is Bruhder strong?" My sister chimed in, still clutching Eve.

Clapping his head, the Director nodded. "Your brother has the ability to be very strong, son."

"Heee!" He had a proud expression on his face, as if he was the one being praised.

Alex's face was still a picture of disbelief as he was still in the middle of processing everything. As Layla made sure her father was fine, she glanced at me with a mixture of astonishment and a hint of fear on her face.

I don't blame him.

My father dropped me off and I turned to Director Lilia, giving her a sharp look, a gaze that I knew was no match for an eight-year-old.

"Director Woodsky. There's actually a reason why I didn't hide my abilities today."

Seeing the seriousness in my voice, he nodded in understanding. "I have a hunch that you're not just bravely showing off your skills, Arthur. You look too sharp for that."

Agreeing with her, I replied, "There are only a few benefits I can get from attending your school. One of them was learning how to utilize my Lightning and Ice elements. However, it is something I can learn on my own in time. No. The main reason I will attend your academy, if I choose to at all, is for protection. Right now, I'm not strong enough to protect everyone. However, you hold a position of power and influence that can provide security for me. My family and I, at least until I can get the strength to protect them myself."

"White! You're being rude to Director Woodsky! How can you …"

"No, it's okay Samantha." As soon as he said this, the director muttered a soft chant before speaking again.

"Arthur, I believe you have the ability to make a change in this world. For that, if you are willing to attend Cyrus Academy and become a entitled citizen who will do anything to protect his land, then I will comply with whatever criteria you have. set." Director Woodsky's voice sounded clear and resolute.

"Alright, I'll learn what I feel is valuable from the classes your school offers and train my own strength. As long as you give me the tools and freedom to do so, as well as keep my loved ones safe, then I will do so. consider you an important benefactor," I promise.

Director Woodsky's lips curled into a smile as we shook hands. At this moment, I could suddenly hear the voices of others again. Looking at the director, he gave me a wink.

With the puzzled gazes of everyone around us, I can only assume that what Director Woodsky has done is to make everyone unable to hear our voices.

Clarifying to everyone who couldn't hear, I said loudly, "I will abide by our agreement when I enroll in your academy."

"Oh? Aren't you planning on applying to my Academy any time soon?" The director as well as every other adult had a puzzled expression on their faces.

“I don't plan on entering Cyrus Academy until I reach the normal age to actually attend. No. gabe. I have decided to enter your academy on my twelfth birthday, a very average age for someone to enter your Academy. That won't be a problem?" I tilted my head.

"Geez! That's in three years less. Arthur, do you have any plans on what to do until then?" I don't think Director Woodsky will receive an extension of my education for more than three years.

I turned to face my parents again, because it was up to them to allow me or not.

I looked up at the night sky, the stars shining. Unlike my old world, the lack of bright light actually made the star-shimmering night beautiful. Turning my eyes back to where my family was, I replied.

"I want to be an adventurer."
