The Beginning Of The Ruler
Chapter 21: Asking Permission To Be An Adventurer

"No! It's absolutely impossible! Whites! Do you know how dangerous it is to be an Adventurer? You just came back after we all thought you were dead and now you're saying you want to kill yourself out there? No way! Not at all."

My mother almost cried when she said this. He was never good at controlling his emotions. Alicia was beside him, holding his leg.

“Mama, don't get mad. Bruhder is not a bad guy! Uuu... Mama, don't cry.”.

Director Woodsky has left the manor after my announcement. I know he still wants to ask me a lot of questions, but we beg you to talk to the family. We were currently inside my parents room with my mother standing in front of me, forbidding me to think about doing anything dangerous remotely.

I'm a little more rational. I know he doesn't like the idea either, but he can't see any reason for me not to be an adventurer other than my age.

I will not argue with my mother. He said all this because he was worried and I could never blame him for that. It was something I had hoped for and I wanted to slowly ease him into the idea, but the meeting with Director Woodsky wastes time from everything.

After being silent the whole time, my father finally spoke up. "Darling, at least let's listen to White. I'm not saying I agree he became an adventurer, but don't you think we should at least listen to what he says?"

"How can you still say that after what happened that day!" my mother shouted, her cries breaking.

I looked at my father for answers, curious about what he was talking about, but he just shook his head and comforted my mother.

It seemed like a good hour before he calmed down enough for us to talk again.

I took my mother's hand. "Mom. I don't plan on leaving tomorrow. I can't wait to spend a few months at home with you guys."

She was still silent, but her face softened a bit back then and I just gave her a warm smile, Eve followed her and started licking her hands.

“What I mean by being an adventurer is so that I can gain some experience. After being in the Elf Kingdom for three years, I lost a lot of things about what I should know about this world of ours. I just thought that being an adventurer would be the best way to gain practical experience" I urged, not letting go of Mom's hand.

"I understand where you're from, White. Even though I am a little older, I also want to gain real-life experience in combat as soon as I wake up as a witch" she recalls. "But your mother was also right in that it was dangerous, and unpredictable."

My mother nodded her head excitedly.

I was silent for a moment while thinking.

"Dad. Ma'am. What if I have some kind of guard or supervisor with me? Does that make you feel a little more comfortable with this whole idea?"

"…"

"Hmm.. You know, it's not a bad idea." I could almost see the gears in my father's head when he started thinking about potential candidates.

"B-but I still won't be able to see you for three years!" My mother started to protest again.

Shaking my head, I said to him. "Mom, I will not travel far or undertake dangerous missions to distant places. I'll try to come back every few months, maybe even more often than that, depending on what I do."

"Bruder, are you leaving?" My sister had an expression as if she had just been told that I did not exist.

I started to panic. "Nono Ellie, I'll stay here. From now on, you'll see your brother often, okay?"

Apparently, my mother and father had told Eleanor many stories about me and how strong and clever I was. One of Alicia's favorite bedtime stories is how I saved Mom from a bunch of bad guys on a cliff and that I was hurt so I needed time to get back home. Eventually, I became a kind of hero to my sister.

I looked back at my mother. His face was much calmer after talking about this. I guess he just took the worst-case scenario and thought I wanted to kill the world's strongest evil at eight years old or so.

"Why do you want to be an Adventurer even before going to school? Isn't it usually the opposite?" my mother mumbled slowly.

"Father's reasoning is part of that; I want to test my skills in real-life situations. Also, Mom, I want to at least try to fit in with everyone when I go to school. It will be much harder to adjust. If I start school at eight. I didn't think I'd be able to make so many friends with such a big age difference."

It was a very sad excuse, but, for once, my mother gave me a look of understanding. I guess it's a mother's worst nightmare for her son to be a loner.

It wasn't entirely a lie because I said it while thinking about Silvana's last wish. He wants me to enjoy life and have life not just training. This is a promise I plan to keep no matter what.

"Again, I'll be here for a few months. Who knows, maybe you'll get sick of me by then and throw me out before I even get to go" I winked at my mom.

It got me a blow to the head, but he also laughed. "You! You're exactly like your father in times like these. Thank goodness you at least have my intelligence." She gave me a hug, leaving me with a warm feeling that I still couldn't get used to.

"Hey! What about my intelligence! He's also gifted with my adept skills in fire!" My father protested.

"Hmph! My son got his power to deviate from me." Mom just rejected me from my dad and just stuck her tongue out at him.

"Alicia too! Bloh!" My sister imitated my mother and stuck her tongue out at my broken father.

"Sniffs! There's no one by my side." She was just playfully crying, trying to hug my daughter. This made us all laugh out loud.

The next day was Sunday, leaving my father with a day off. White and Helstia's family were eating together for breakfast. "So, did you guys decide what to do about Arthur?" Alex asked, half chewing his omelet.

Jessica shook her head; "Oath. Sometimes, I find it hard to believe that you're a nobleman with your bad eating habits, baby."

"My nails, don't worry. At least your husband is better than me. Remember that dinner party where Rey spewed her food out of laughing so hard? I had to use Alicia as an excuse to leave the table because I was so embarrassed, "My mom just sighed.

"Coughs! Anyways! Yeah, after talking about it last night, we agreed to let him be an adventurer on certain terms, Lex." My father only slightly blushed as he tried to shift the subject.

"Oh? What condition?" the curious Jessica replied as she cut the omelet into small pieces for Layla.

“He will not be adventurous until after his birthday, which is three months away. We also decided to have a bodyguard with him in his mission. Besides, I feel like he'll be smart enough to manage the rest of it, of course, the last condition is that he'll visit as often as possible" my father explained, working on the rest of his grilled meat.

"Do you have someone in mind for whom the guard is? Heck, are there any guards capable of guarding her? I feel like Arthur will be the one to protect that guard!" He only chuckled at the silliness of an eight-year-old protecting an adult veteran adventurer.

My mother answered him, looking at my father, "We haven't really thought of someone who fits the criteria. Rey and I thought we could use one of the Helstia Auction guards, but we couldn't find anyone. "

"Can I ask for more omelettes?" My sister chimed in with her fork raised into the air.

"I got it!" My father stood up from the sudden revelation, making me almost choke on the piece of meat that was in my mouth.

"The "Twin Star will soon return from the expedition in the dungeon. I received a letter from the Adventurers Guild Hall saying that they will return within two months! Perfect! Why did it take me so long to think about this? ? We can only have one of the Twin Stars to take care of you. Whites! You still remember that, right?" My father's eyes shone in joy.

"Hey! That's not a bad idea!" My mother said from the kitchen, her voice implying my father's rarity had a good idea.

"No, unfortunately, I haven't had time to send them a letter. I plan to do it today." My father sat back, scratching his head.

Alex chimed in on the conversation after finishing his breakfast.

"Arthur, you told Director Lilia yesterday about not showing your strength to anyone until you apply to Cyrus Academy, right? How do you plan on doing that when you're an Adventurer?"

"Ah yes. I had intended for it," I said as I picked up a strawberry with a fork. "I plan to hide my identity as an adventurer. I have read that there are many Adventurers Guild members who use pseudonyms, not revealing their identities to the public." Unfortunately, since there was no way to cover up Ebe's appearance, I just needed to hide it well. Fortunately, he was small enough to fit inside the robe if his pockets were large enough.

"Mmm.. that's." Both Vincent and Tabitha nodded at this.

With that, the breakfast ended and we all parted ways.

Father went to the Guild Hall to send letters to his old party members while my mother and Jessica went shopping, taking Alicia and Layla with them. They asked me to come too, but I politely declined the offer to endure the suffering they called an entertainment event.

I took a shower and headed to the right wing of the manor, where Vincent's office was located.

*Tap***Tap*

"Yes?"

"This is Arthur" I replied.

The door opened to reveal Alex with a curious look on his face. "Ah comein! What brings you here, Arthur? You've never actually come into my office before."

"Ah yes. There's a certain thing I want to talk to you about today, which is why I'm visiting" I said, looking through the piles of documents on the floor and at his desk.

VINCENT HELSTIA'S POV:

Is this kid really only eight years old?

Shivers flowed down my back because of his tone. Why was I so nervous when I mentioned the 'Special matter' that he wanted to talk to me about?

"What kind of problem is that?" I just asked, my face turned a little more serious.

"I want your help in getting some items that might be hard to find elsewhere." Continuing, he sat down and said with his eyes staring straight at me. "I need a sturdy hooded robe or robe and a mask that can cover my entire face. It's important that the mask has the function of changing my voice."

It was not difficult to figure out why he wanted these items. As the owner of the Helstia Auction House who attracted even the highest nobles and even the Royal Family, it shouldn't be too difficult to obtain these items. The mask may be a little tricky because the maker of the sound element has to be the one to make this but it can be done.

However...why is there such a heavy feeling in this room?

I can't put my finger on it …

That's her!

Why did this eight-year-old child exert the same pressure as when I was next to King Xafir himself?

No. gabe. The atmosphere now was even heavier than when I was with the king.

He's obviously asking for my help. But it felt as if he was measuring me, almost as if he was trying to evaluate where to put me on the list of 'People who should stay alive'.

I've never felt this from her, but it's probably because I've only seen her with her family.

I quickly replied, wanting to finish it. "Of course, it shouldn't be a problem to get those things. The mask may take a little time but I'm sure we'll have it before you become an Adventurer."

His little nod really relieved me. I have Nobles waiting in line to introduce myself to me, but this child …

"Is there something you need to help me instead? I'd feel bad just asking for this without any compensation." He answers.

I felt a hint of sweat forming on top of my eyebrows. "I-it's okay. I owe a lot to your father. He might work for me, but the way he trained my bodyguards actually reduced the amount of trouble that occurred during the auction."

This is the real truth. Rey has become an irreplaceable part of the Helstia Auction House. His leadership and charisma among the guards he trained was first class. I owed him when he saved my life and I owe him and his family now. Even with a huge salary that was well above average and letting his family stay in our house, I still felt that it was really an offer from my side. Both Jessica and Layla are now happier than ever after Rey moves in with Alice and has Ellie. I was always filled with guilt for not being able to spend as much time as they wanted with my family, but things are much better now.

"Hmm, speaking of training, it really gave me an idea," he murmured while looking down.

I had noticed some time ago that, when Arthur began to think, he had this look .. This look where his gaze was focused far away and his brows furrowed; the fine wrinkles near her lips and the slight twitching on her nose made her seem to be thinking of something above the abilities of normal human intelligence. It was the appearance of a true intellectual. Sighs. It's hard to believe that she's the same age as my little Layla.

"Allow me to begin training your daughter to become a witch." He laid these landmines as if he was just talking about the weather.

ARTHUR WHITE POV:

“I intend to start teaching my little sister in mana manipulation soon. It wouldn't be too much trouble to include Layla in this lesson. I noticed that you and Lady Jessica are not witches so it might not be possible for her to wake up on her own, but if we start now, I think she could wake up around average age," I said.

My statement was greeted with silence. I looked up to see Alex drop a stack of papers that had been fumbled nervously. His face froze in place as I could hear his heart beating faster.

"W-can I really believe what you just said? Can you really allow my daughter to become an m-mage?" He asked after a seemingly long silence.

"certain. It's going to be a long process but it's definitely possible. Er.. I must ask you to keep the lesson humble. I don't like being bombarded with loving parents asking to turn their children into witches, I just laugh a little, try to ease the tension.

He nodded furiously after failing to form a coherent sentence..

"Honor ... there would be no greater happiness than seeing my daughter become a witch," she stuttered, tears on the verge of falling.

"Good! Then I will leave the things we discussed with you! Now, let me out. Sorry for interrupting your work."

I walked myself out of the room, taking the sleeping Eve from my lap.

I'm glad it worked out so well.
