This syndrome can happen to anyone. Some groups of people who can be trapped with this condition include concentration camp prisoners, prisoners of war, children of abuse victims, incest survivors, KDRT victims, sect members, and others, and people in bad (toxic) neighborhoods.

It may be easier to call stockholm syndrome a survival strategy for victims. That's because it seems that the actions taken by the victims can increase the chances of survival.

One easy example of a stockholm syndrome relationship is someone who is beaten to a pulp by his partner. Not a few, or even many, of the victims do not want to press charges or ask for a restraining order. One of the reasons that may come up is, "I still love her."
