The Warm Home

The Warm Home
Chapters 10

In the middle of the night, Raka wakes up unable to sleep. Restless, that's how he feels right now. With a very slow movement, he got down from the mattress and then reached into a box under the bed.

The box is blue with a polkadot motif, looks like a toy box. When he opened the box, he immediately smiled and picked up the book from the box. The box does not contain toys. Raka makes it look like a toy box when it is a pile of books. Favorite books. There is something about psychology, business, and French.

"I won't be able to calm down if I haven't finished a book." He muttered while opening the page. Is it a disease (?) Or indeed uniqueness. He will feel restless and dizzy throughout the day if the book he read has not run out. One book a day. That was his habit from before.

He hid it from his grandmother. Lynn will never know. He always used a thousand ways to cover the 'restlessness.

I don't feel like 1 hour has passed. Raka hurriedly tidied up her book, and put it in the box. Not forgetting he pushed towards the bottom and climbed on the mattress and slept with a feeling of relief.

In the morning, they were working as usual. Yesterday's incident, they've forgotten it. Lynn gets ready for the store, while Raka enjoys her breakfast. "Grandma's going home late. Maybe night." He said before he left.

"Don't forget to eat. Just take a break if you feel tired." Raka said while hugging him.

Lynn nodded with a smile.

"Tomorrow, we're shopping for year-end holiday preparations, yaaa. It's been a long time since I've been walking." She thought her granddaughter would be happy with this surprise, but she wasn't.

He shook his head. "No need to walk. We better buy stock snacks and enjoy them at home." Said.

"Are you not bored at home? Not going to some place. Like a game?" He was very surprised by his granddaughter who did not like sightseeing. Very different from children in general.

"If I get bored, I'll tell grandma. But, if grandma wants to go somewhere, I'll accompany her." Lynn chuckled at hearing that. Finally, he left, leaving his own grandson alone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
December has arrived.
The mall and shop are crowded. Many people shop to enjoy a year-end holiday with family. The most anticipated thing is snow.
As if getting a new toy, children immediately scattered to the streets that have been covered with snow. Some play snowball, some make snow dolls.
Likewise with Raka who focuses on making a snow house or igloo. He said he wanted to feel like he lived there. Lynn cleared the snow in front of her house to make it look clean.
In the evening, the snow wind came suddenly. The residents immediately rushed home as the air grew colder. The streets are deserted, so are the shops and malls are deserted by buyers. There are only a few buses still in operation.
"Babitr!! It's chilly. Uuuuhhh when I've eaten warm soup." Said Raka while rubbing her palms. Lynn came up with a tray containing two glasses of warm chocolate drinks. He picked it up and held the warm glass.
"This is better. Fuuh."
"We should make a fireplace in the house." Said Lynn while enjoying her drink.
Raka shook her head in disapproval. "The cost to make the fireplace is not small. After all, with the presence of warm food and drinks is also enough, really." Said. After that, the atmosphere suddenly quieted. They are busy warming up.
"Next year, we plan to move. This house is going to be grandma's rent. How's it?" Lynn broke the silence. Raka looked at her grandmother with a confused look. He was silent. But he soon made a sound.
"I don't want to say anything. It was all grandmother's decision. Most importantly, happy grandma. That's all." He answered while lowering his head. For some reason, he could not see his grandmother's face.
They also finished their drinks and then prepared for sleep. "Raka, let's go to bed. Write it down tomorrow." Lynn said seeing Raka busy writing while holding her head.
"It's over soon. I'll catch up. The lights are off. I'm fine" he said with a big smile. Lynn finally went to her room and sat down on her bed. He felt his grandson was hiding something.
"Why did I suddenly remember Alan? He always comes suddenly. If he comes and hurts Grandma again, how about it? I should've just charged him at that time." His monologue.
He was scared, very scared. Bad things happened to her grandmother. He deliberately sat in the living room and pretended to write even though the lights had been turned off, to monitor whether he would come or not.
The clock shows at 12:30 p.m. The snow wind is getting stronger. The air is getting colder. But this boy did not feel cold. His heart is beating so fast. Sweat is pouring. His feelings are getting more agitated. He got up from his seat and opened the curtains a little.
His eyes were shocked. What he was worried about happened. Alan's coming. He checked the door. It's locked. The curtains are closed. He sat on the floor, breathing.
BUGH BUGH!!!!
"HEY OPEN!" he said, shouting from outside. He kept banging on the door. Until finally....
BRAAKK!!!
Door open forcibly until broken. A strong wind blew into the house. Raka regulated her breathing while clenching her hands.
"I'm glad my grandmother's room is locked." His inner..
"Heh. the s*al*n this. So brave to confront me." Raka was undaunted he continued to stand blocking him into the room.
"Where's that woman?" Ask casually.
"He's your mother! If you came just to bother him, better get out!!" He said with a shout.
Feeling stepped on by him, Alan raised his hand ready to hit his mother's favorite grandson.
"Don't! Stopit! Don't hurt him!" Suddenly Lynn came out of her room. Raka was surprised, how could his grandmother come out even though, he was sure he had locked his room.
"Then give me all your money. Or-"
THE PLAQUE!
One thing Raka never saw while living with her grandmother was her angry expression. He never saw his grandmother angry. In a little bit, never. A little upset, never. Just this time, he saw how his grandmother was angry.
Alan, who was first slapped by his mother, was shocked.
Just like Raka, she had never seen her mother angry. Just sad and crying. That's what he knows about his mother. Her cheeks felt hot after being slapped until they left marks.
With a red face, he clenched his hand. Want to hit that hard slap.
"WHAT'S THE LACK OF MOTHER? WHAT HAS BEEN IMPATIENT ALL THIS TIME?! ALL YOUR BAD BEHAVIOR, I ACCEPT. MOM STILL LOVES YOU! ALL THIS TIME, I FOUGHT HARD FOR YOU. BUT, THIS IS WHAT YOU GAVE MOM?! I DON'T NEED YOUR MONEY. I JUST WANT YOU TO BE A GOOD PERSON AND LIVE A NORMAL LIFE. YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW IS NOT NORMAL!"
Lynn yelled out all she had been holding. Breathing gasps. Disappointed, sad, upset, he took it all out. Then, while turning his body to return to the room, suddenly......
"Don't!"
Jem!
"Woman S*aln!"
Lynn was stabbed in the back and fell. His blood came out. His breath began to disappear. His sight began to blur. Her tears came out, her body was helpless. He saw his grandson standing rigidly in front of him, shocked by what he saw.
"I'm sorry I didn't hear it. My granddaughter, I'm sorry, yaa. Looks like we can't move house next year." Lirih. After that, he closed his eyes and........
