Virranda peeked out from the door of Joe's slightly open room, looking at the man reading Verrel's storybook as usual before going to bed.
Sadness was still there, considering his father who did not want to meet Joe and his son. He had to lie, so that Verrel was not disappointed by saying his grandfather was still tired because he had just returned from the hospital.
While Joe, even though Virranda already knew the man perfectly understood if his father disliked him, Virranda still felt uncomfortable, because he was the one who asked Joe to take Verrel to his parents' house.
"I want to make you a warm drink, do you want to?" virranda asked, when she saw Joe coming to her after covering Verrel's body who had fallen asleep.
"Yes, I want to" said Joe. He then followed Virranda behind him to the kitchen.
"Sit down, let me make it for you and for me" Joe said, pulling up a chair to allow Virranda to sit there.
"Joe, I offered you a hot drink, why did you have to make one?" virranda's protest was unacceptable when Joe forced her to sit down and wait at the dinner table.
"Here you go, wait here for a minute, I'll cook some water first," Joe sat Virranda in the chair and hurried to turn on the stove.
Virranda looked at Joe's back, watching the man who was moving towards the kitchen utensils cabinet to pick up the glass from there.
Sadness again disturbed his heart, remembering the words of his father today. His father just wanted him. Though Joe, it's been very good to him and Verrel all this time.
"It's done!" joe exclaimed cheerfully, carrying a tray in his hand and putting it on the table.
"This is honey ginger tea for you" said Joe, bringing the cup closer to Virranda, and the other to himself.
"Thank you Joe," Virranda reviewed her faint smile, then blew off the steam so that the scent filled the apartment kitchen.
"Heum, the fragrance of Joe," Virranda closed her eyes, savoring the scent of the drink her husband had made.
"Really?" Joe smiled at Virranda's behavior. "Be careful, the drink is still hot, use this teaspoon only," the man thrust a spoon at Virranda.
"How does it feel?" joe asked curiously, when he saw Virranda scooping his drink and tasting it.
"Seenak and smell Joe" said Virranda, blowing it away before putting it in her mouth.
Joe again commented on his happy smile hearing Virranda's words.
"He's warm, as warm as my dear feeling to you, mommy Verrel. And the sweet honey, as sweet as Mommy Verrel always fascinated me. Clop right?" joe looked at Virranda who kept tasting her drink.
"Basic gumbal!" kekeh Virranda followed Joe. The woman's heart warmed to hear her husband's words.
"Joe, I want to talk" Virranda said later, after her laughter subsided.
"Speak, I'll hear," said Joe, looking at Virranda with his face reddened after muffling his laughter.
"But wants me to work again at the Company," Virranda looked at Joe's face looking at her. "Do you think I should accept it, or just reject it?" ask Virranda carefully.
"I think you have the right to decide for yourself Virranda, no need to ask me," said Joe in a low and slow tone, then sipped his drink.
"What do you mean Joe?" Virranda's heart suddenly fretted, because he remembered his mother's words when Joe heard his conversation this afternoon with his father.
"So you don't need my permission" he continued.
Virranda's throat felt choked, so he was unable to swallow his saliva. He didn't know why Joe's words hurt so much, he really didn't want Joe to say those words.
"Joe, has it been six years that our togetherness meant nothing to you?" virranda asked with teary eyes.
"Have all your sweet words been just your chatter to make myself and Verrel happy?" virranda's feelings are getting raging. It turned out that he had misunderstood Joe's kindness to her, because the man had only done everything under their marriage contract.
"Don't ask me that Virranda. Your tears are too precious just to cry for a man like me," Joe wiped the spheres of Virranda's tears seeping through his cheeks with his fingers.
"Joe, answer my question Joe, answer me!" virranda said with a slightly raised tone, she held tightly to Joe's hand which wiped her tears.
"How should I answer you?" Tell me, what should I say Virranda?" joe held back all his emotions.
"Tell me that you won't let me work Joe, and I will. I'll accompany Verrel home and wait for you to come home to work" Virranda said, tightening her grip on the man's hand.
"I can't ban you like Virranda used to. I'll even let you work at your Papi's company,"
"Why Joe, have you changed?" virranda's voice rang out trembling, restraining her increasingly turbulent feelings. There was fear there, fear of Joe's change of attitude, fear of losing the attention of the men who had filled his days, and many other fears that he felt. It all bothered him.
"You don't think I know that you used to cry in your room while calling your parents while we were overseas." Virranda looked at Joe with her face, there was a sense of shame because of being caught by the man if he often cried over his master.
"My presence by your side has kept you and Verrel away from your family. I feel like a cruel man." Virranda again choked, Joe must have felt very uncomfortable hearing his father's words this afternoon.
"I ask you, accept your Papi Virranda's offer. Work your way back with your Papi. You're your father's only hope and successor in your family,"
"But Joe-" said Virranda quickly.
"Not to argue. Didn't you say you must have said according to your husband's words, even though I asked you to accompany Verrel home and wait for me to come home to work. So now I'm asking you to accept a job offer from your Papi" Joe broke up. Virranda was stunned to hear the man's words.
"Yes, you're my husband. I must have said," said Virranda stuttered with a feeling of tightness that suddenly disappeared, the hue of his face made Joe smile.
"We're already in Virranda Indonesia, so I'm not worried about letting you work. There's your family here, and Verrel's going to school soon, too" Joe added.
"Can I ask for help?" ask Joe slowly.
"Say, I must have done it" Virranda said, feeling Joe's statement as her husband was new ammunition for her.
"Can I let go of my hand? I was thirsty after much talking" said Joe glancing at his hand still held tightly by Virranda.
Virranda's face grew increasingly blushing, looking at his hand that was tightly grasping the man's hand.
"You're such a bitch to Joe, why would you say that?!' peeking Virranda tried to hold back her embarrassment while throwing the man's hand away from her.
Joe again chuckles to see Virranda doing to him. Women are very confusing, he just shed his tears, then suddenly threw his hands just because of shame and prestige, Joe's mind while continuing to chuckle. No matter what, no matter what the woman did, she could always be understood, all because of the love she nurtured herself to increase the mountain.
