Demon King

Demon King
Chapter 70 The Sixth Evolution [2]

Cleaning the fourth floor may be easier than the third floor. Undeads are considered more difficult to fight than other monsters, given their undeath nature and curses. However, their physical abilities were much weaker than mine, which progressed through Predation. And their curses were ineffective in front of my increasing resistance. Lee Chan-yu has survived past the undead as well, using his hellhound to the maximum.

Of course, it was a bit difficult to cope with the tens of thousands of undead that appeared the moment we reached the middle of the 4th floor, especially with the surprise attack from the Curd Wights hiding amongst the other undead. They had much stronger bodies and more deadly curses than any other undead.

I have been considering it since the third floor, but maybe this dungeon will not be a challenge for me anymore. There will probably be more room for growth if I go to Jinma Tower, or Nak Park. Or the Rookie Battlefield. Maybe if I go down into the dungeon, it will change. I am currently growing faster than the quest expectations I have, and I feel like I should rush to grow stronger.

“Captain.” Lee Chan-yu called out to me before I could open the door to the boss room.

“How high are you now?”

“119.”

“Is it from the battlefield you told me about?”

“Yes, partly. It was full of powerful monsters. ” Lee Chan-yu thought for a moment before nodding at me.

“It would be better if you do this alone.”

“What?”

“At first I thought we were going to break through this dungeon together, but you're too far away from me. I've been pretty weak compared to this boss, you know. ” His words surprised me like a physical blow.

“I was thinking if I would be able to hunt this boss alone but. But you, can you? ”

“…”

“Currently, not too bad. I'm sure I can be effective in helping you in battle. ”

“I have no doubt about that.”

“But the Black Palace is a long dungeon. Monsters will only become stronger and stronger, and the differences between us will continue to widen. At this rate, it would eventually reach a point too wide for me to follow. ”

It is true, compared to before, the difference between us is getting bigger. Not only was my growth rate fast; the experience I gained from monsters in the Rookie Battlefield had given me a huge boost going forward. So far, he hasn't held me back, but it occurred to me that at this rate, it might happen in the future. That he will be more responsible than my team-mates. I have also thought about what can be done to stop it. Although she was observant, Lee Chan-yu noticed I was worried about it.

“At first, I worked hard to follow you, but now I think I'll just hinder your growth.” He's not wrong. If I forced myself, he would be overwhelmed, and if I slowed down his pace, my growth would slow down.

“Not mean everything is bad. You must have helped me grow. Thanks to you, I can improve, which I think is impossible. So before I start having a negative impact on you, I think we should split up now. ”

“Just thanks to you I can evolve too..”.

“I can go forward thanks to you, and that will not change. I still have a clear goal in front of me that I can continue. ” He held out a translucent small cube while saying this.

“Sini. It is a communication device so you can keep in touch with me. I picked it up thinking I might need it right away. ”

Where did you find this?

“On the underground battlefield you can enter at the level of 100.” He laughed, and I had to endure the surprise. Just as I was able to enter the Rookie Battlefield, he had the chance to develop his strength in a place other than this dungeon. He must have hidden it from me in anticipation of this moment.

“Please, captain. I will stay for a while until I am strong enough to face this boss alone. Use that device to contact me when it's time to leave this dungeon. ”

“Is this underground battlefield dangerous?”

“Indeed, but not as bad as this boss.”

“Good.” I contemplated the cube in my hand for a moment before keeping it in my inventory, nodding at it.

“Do not die.”

“Of course.”

“If strong man attacks this dungeon, do not fight them and contact me.”

“I will.”

“Good. Then I'll go first. ” Lee Chan-yu leads three sniffer dogs away, his back upright and without the slightest regret as he always walks. I watched his back until I could no longer see him, turning only after he was nowhere in sight to face the black iron gate in front of me. ‘If you chase after him now, you will only embarrass yourself. All I can do is move forward at full speed. ‘ I put the key inside the door and turned it around, the big black iron door slowly opened.

[Ohh]

I heard a man's voice from inside.

[Are you finally here? I thought my voice would come out first.]

[I'm ready when you're ready. Come and dance with me.]

“Sorry, I'm not a dancer.” I raised the Blood Shadow; a black rose bloomed, emitting a pale light. I was standing in a very large room, his boss riding a horse that looked solid and covered in black flames in front of me. In the previous boss room, there were weaker monsters accompanying the boss, but I didn't see him here.

[If you don't attack first, I will.]

Dullahan was lined with heavy metal armor that did not seem to slow him down at all as he charged forward, a gigantic battle axe raised in one hand. I did not try to jump out of the way but instead watched him as he approached, allowing my senses to reach out and prepare to jump with Ubiquitous. With my Martial Arts and Surprise skills, I don't need to fight it out with this boss in a protracted fight. I just have to wait and attack when I get the chance.

The monster was now close, close enough for me to feel the breath of the black horse riding, its tremors galloping fiercely towards me, shaking the ground below. The dark, viscous mana flowed through the axe as it split through the air, heading towards my neck. I took one point in front of me, stepping forward with Ubiquitous right as the ax touched my neck. The axe split the alter ego that I had left behind earlier, just as the floor under the horse collapsed, my trap set with the Lunatic Trickster exploded.

Dullahan, who leaned forward, lost his center of gravity as his horse fell. His head flew free from his hands, soaring into the air. I jumped into the air after that, safely grabbing the monster's head before it could hit the ground. I removed the helmet from the head, greeted with a surprised expression as I threw the helmet.

[You have no honor!]

“Thank you for the food.” I ignored the monster's comment and started devouring its head. It was hard to chew, but my Predation skills were enough to help me make some progress.

[How dare you dirty this duel!]

Dullahan's body turned to face me, throwing a giant axe like that. I jumped away using Ubiquitous again, continuing to chew my head. There was no taste and it was like trying to eat a stale rice cake. The axe that flew through the air past where I was before, started to glow purple. It split into two as it spun in the air. His axe spun unnaturally in the air, swooping down to head towards me.

[Pelcadia Jewel!]

I jumped into space once again, not surprised to see his axe split again into four. Dullahan was now charging towards me with chains made of black mana as the axe approached me, on a horse that was now free from traps.

[If you want to play like this, allow me to help you!]

The axe continued to split as they circled past me in midair, Dullahan whipping my leg with a long chain of dark mana. “The longer this lasts, the more I am harmed.” I sped up my head consumption, ready to end this sooner rather than later.

[Ahhhhh! How dare my head get dirty! You thief!]

Chewing the head was difficult; this person did not want to be eaten. I forced myself through it, Dullahan's body started to slow down as I finished the last bite.

[He-ga-ga-ga-aaaaahhh!]

I know that the common sense of this creature has been lost, but I am not so lucky to be able to finish it off. The axes continued to accelerate and split, now sixteen of them were circling around the room. Anxiety gripped me. ‘If this continues, I will have to face more than a hundred of them soon.’ No matter how big this room is; I won't be able to avoid it even with Ubiquitous.

[Yahoooo!]

The chain attacked me as the eight axes approached. A trap I placed in the air exploded, temporarily blocking the attack. I jumped forward right then and there, landing on the horse that Dullahan was riding. My sword darted around the horse's neck. It was difficult, almost the same as the boss, but it wasn't enough to stop my attacks combining advanced Martial Arts and my top-tier Surprise.

[You have gained 120,948 experiences.]

[You have received 80 silver.]

[You have obtained the Lucky Egg.]

As I slashed his horse, Dullahan was once again thrown to the ground. I bit the horse's neck without hesitation, its axe splitting the air around me. But I don't worry about them anymore. This boss has lost his senses and now his mobility. He can no longer be a threat to me.

I waited until the sixteen axes would hit me to jump forward with Ubiquitous, instantly closing the distance between myself and Dullahan. It was simple enough to slide past the chains he struck blindly, piercing Blood Shadow deep into his chest. Black lighting and bloody flames shot out from his blade, causing the monster's body to stumble violently from the concentrated mana. The axe split once again, trying to close the distance between them and me. They became enemies far more deadly than this Dullahan.

“I don't have time for this!” I cannot continue to use Ubiquitous to avoid this axis, especially if they continue to multiply exponentially. I let Dullahan hit me with a chain, using the Lunatic Trickster to set a trap in the air behind me to stop the axe from approaching. The sound of explosions rang out behind me as the axe collided with my trap, but I paid no heed to it as I swung my sword recklessly. I poured more mana into Dullahan's body, watching the flames start to come out of my sword. The fire exploded as I continued to ignite it with my magic, eventually eating Dullahan's entire body.

[Ah.. ah...hhhhhh!]

Dullahan's anger echoed as I spent all my mana into the flames that consumed him. I could feel the traps I had created disappear, unable to defend myself without the supply of magic.

‘Is it too late..?’ I weakly tried to raise my sword to guard myself, trying to sense whether the axe that would spell my end was on its way.

[You have gained 508,910 experience.]

[You have received 500 gold.]

[You have obtained the Jewel of Pelcadia.]

[You've got Yultana's helmet.]

The notification window appeared, making my lips sigh. The axe around me stopped in midair, slowly falling to the ground and disappearing.

I felt like I could keep my promise to Lee Chan-yu.
