Demon King

Demon King
Chapter 79 Qualifying [4]

Several major events had occurred during the early stages of Great Fusion. During that time, the elves had not been able to adapt to their new environment, and none of them could consider the idea that monsters born from the transformation of human souls could enter their hiding places. Since they could not prepare for it, the destruction that occurred, as a result, was terrifying. However, the most important thing that happened was not the elves that were killed. It was a monster capable of taking over their bodies after destroying their souls.

It was only natural; their abilities were optimized to kill souls but leave their flesh intact. It would be strange if none of the elves had their bodies stolen. The problem was that once the elves' bodies were taken over, it became difficult to distinguish them from other elves. As time passed, monsters continued to mutate, slowly losing their memories as they became human and, eventually, losing their ability to find their partner. But what about the monsters that had succeeded before that happened?

Elves prided themselves in the purity and majesty of their souls and rejected those who could not keep the purity of their souls. They could not admit that the human soul had been able to overtake the fairy body. So, doubt was born. I can trust anyone who wasn't with me from the start on the battlefield. Before I go and say it would be nice to meet the other elves, I have to ascertain their identity first. No one could be convinced that the person wearing the face of the fairy was truly one.

The elves created this world in order to protect themselves and, at the same time, become the worst enemy to themselves. They can no longer unite. There was no need to protect myself from them; the elves scattered on this battlefield could not possibly be my enemies. The problem is that they are being released from it. This left me speechless, as I only considered the Rookie Battlefield as a new place to train.

“I've never seen Knight Elakatra before.” Mireina said while peeling the orange-colored fruit. It was shaped like a triangle and only grew in the elven forest.

“They have a big fortress here, on the battlefield, right?”

“Quickly once.” I was pretending to be stupid, and that seemed to be enough to convince Mireina. He has absolutely no doubt of me, his sincerity is so pure that I wonder how he has survived for so long.

“Or at least, there is one. I wondered at the time why it was building it. I wonder if they were expecting an attack. If they did, it would be better if they told us all. ”

“I think if they warn everyone, they will panic and flock to them. It may interfere with their own survival. ”

“It's not fair, we're all the same, right? If everyone is good like you, we can all join forces to defeat the monsters. ” I choose not to answer him, instead chew on the fruit he gave me as I thought. I thought of those who had a different perspective than that, and those who were of high rank among the elves. How did they prepare as if they knew an attack was going to happen here.

It's been a while since I entered the Rookie Battlefield, but I can't be sure how long. I remember what Rain told me about the people called ‘native’ by human society. Those who brutally killed those who escaped from the elves in the past and infuriated the fallen. They reminded me of the Knights of Elakatra, those who had sworn to protect their own people but left them to be killed and shouted.

“It's kinda scary. Should we talk about it? ”

“No.” I smiled bitterly and shook my head. If I have more time, I would like to investigate it further, but only recently have I found out about the Elakatra Knights. I'm almost evolved again. It would be wiser for me to settle for what I know and withdraw for now. I don't want to risk announcing my presence to these singles. After all, a surprise attack would be most effective if I knew the enemy, and they didn't know me.

“What is today?”

“It looks like it will start.” The wind of disaster that would never stop until the elves and monsters were both wiped out, tickling my hair. I'm used to it, but I still feel a little nervous. However, I cannot allow myself to be driven by those feelings.

This was the moment when the monsters that were trying to destroy the elves' souls would join together with the aim of destroying everything they encountered. Although I did not feel threatened by them, no matter how strongly they fused, I could not help but feel a little disgusted with them.

“It looks like there are no monsters around.”

Be careful, we don't know when that will change. Mireina said as she grabbed my clothes. I smiled bitterly at him and extended my detection range outward. His attitude was rather pitiful, but he was not wrong. When the Wind of Eutinus began to blow, nothing was certain. I wouldn't be surprised if a monster had formed right above my head. But it wasn't a monster called wind today. It happened in an instant, something strange in my field of detection.

Who are you two? An elf appeared out of thin air in front of us — a beautiful woman in clean white clothes and a red scarf. I've met quite a few elves since I visited the Rookie Battlefield, but this one feels different. Other people I met felt unsafe. They can't trust us, and we can't trust them. But this one feels more steady, confident. He exudes power, and I'm sure he must be one of the Knights of Elakatra. Mireina stood beside me, trembling, unable to answer.

“Happy to meet one of our kind.”

“Our type? I don't consider myself the same as you. ” He frowned, raised his sword to point it at me.

“For me, relatives refer to Elnim, the leader of Elakatra, and my colleagues.” Inevitably I wonder why a member of the Elakatra Knights appeared in front of us here, freely identifying him. I have too many questions to even begin with.

“Well, did you kill monsters around here?”

“But I don't need to explain our plans to you. If something gets in our way, we'll remove it. That's it all.”

“Even one of your own kind?”

“You are not one of my kind.” At that time, I was everywhere, using Ubiquitous to jump around. He readied his sword and mana, eyeing when I would reappear nearby.

Blood splashed in the air. Black smoke snapped at his left arm, trying to bite him. He rejected it, against my mana, but it would not be enough to stop my Predation power if I could wrest control from it. His magic increased rapidly, the taste in his arm was bitter and unappetizing. I was surprised by how powerful he was, but as excited as how strong I could become by devouring him.

“You...!” He pushed his body away from me, shouting.

“You'll try and kill us, won't you?” I floated around him, extinguishing the magic he was trying to shoot at me.

“Run before you get caught up in this, Mireina.”

“But!” I didn't have time to listen to her response, a rapier slid down my neck at incredible speed. I was unable to block it properly but was able to deflect its direction at the last second.

“Clean my arm!” I ignored him as I increased the mana in the smoke stuck to his left arm, pulling him violently. She gritted her teeth as she tried to break away from him, unable to stop me from breaking it. It's too hard for me to get through, but I can at least disable it for now.

“I can't use my communication magic!”

Are you trying to kill us? My attention was diverted from it, unable to ignore the Eutinus Wind now. The wind that broke the monster's will and made him do strange things. Who made it?

“Mireina, run!”

“I can't!” I gritted my teeth, noticing the distorted smile of the woman standing before me.

“Come on, can't you save this friendly business until later?” His rapier lit up again, a shot of magic energy flying with him. I struggled to stop the attack with my own sword, wondering if I could continue this way and protect Mireina. I kept looking for this opponent to look for gaps in his defense as our swords collided, increasing my detection to the maximum. However, it was hard to read it, and his fighting skills were equally matched by mine. There were no visible gaps in his defense, and each attack was extremely heavy. I won't be able to continue like this.

‘Should I run?’ No, I don't even know if I can escape, let alone Mireina. I don't really like the idea of protecting her, but she's not the type to give up and run away just because it's hard. Why should I be so? And, more than that, the gaze of the woman in front of us, looking at us as if we were not living beings in her estimation, pissed me off.

“What do you want?”

“There's nothing to tell you. Dead.” A huge ice coffin hit me, coming into contact with the fire I just picked up in time. Hot and cold collided, water vapor billowing out. Through the mist of steam, his rapier flew once more, blocked by my greatsword. I need to find a way to force through an opponent with such complete defense, to change this situation completely.

There was a way, the idea suddenly exploded in my mind. I opened my mouth, activating a skill I knew.

“Kiaaaaaaaaah!” Strange sounds came out from my throat, which not even monsters could produce with their vocal cords. Just listening to it disrupts the balance of one's body and damages the mind. It was a disaster for those who could not avoid or reject it. Noise madness. It could only mean one thing here.

“You!” I smiled at him as I leaped forward with a large sword, capitalizing on his confusion. I set some traps in the air with the Lunatic Trickster, blocking his magic attack with an explosion.

[Ohhhhhh!]

Monsters began to flock towards us, a large amount comparable to the sound of my madness.
