EX-SOLDIER: In Another World

EX-SOLDIER: In Another World
Meetings and the New World - Part 4

Vincent carefully prepared for the worst to happen. If it was the green creatures he had fought, he at least knew how they moved and attacked. But this is another thing, in addition to the night with the lack of lighting is very disturbing.

The pete next to him was also tense, preparing for anything that would come out of the forest with anticipation. His grip on the sword and shield was so tight that a hint of sweat appeared out of concern. It is understandable because it is like an ambush of soldiers at night, waiting for the enemy to lower his guard and end badly for our side.

AWOOOOOOOOO!!

When Pete's face immediately turned pale after hearing the howl, it didn't bode well for Vincent if the beast's voice was indicative of Pete's expression. Obviously, they are not facing an ordinary wolf, more than that it is another world and Vincent does not know what kind of wolf can scare Pete as an adventurer.

With a quick thought, Vincent knew that wolves were beasts that clustered to attack their prey. With the thought of it the two hurriedly opened [Interface] to look at the inventory and look for suitable weapons, the shotgun would be the best choice for now. First, because Vincent was unsure of being able to shoot enemies in the distance let alone the lack of light to aim at. Second, because the enemy was a fast-moving ferocious beast, unlike the Orcs or Goblins he had once fought. Another thing Vincent needs to pay attention to, pump-action shotguns will not work well because it takes too much time to pump, aiming at enemies and reload will take a lot of time. So he decided to take out the Saiga-12K, which was equipped with a 'magazing drum' of 30 bullets, saving back the M4 Carabine he had taken out.

"Gray Wolf."

Gill said behind them in a worried tone, sounding like a whisper but still clearly heard by Vincent and Pete who were on the front line. Lisa on the other hand trembled as she held the flashlight Vincent had given her, still highlighting the forest in front of them despite looking scared.

"Is that a bad thing?"

Vincent asked without turning his attention to Pete. Vincent sees Pete nodding from the corner of his eye and trying to swallow the lump in his throat.

"Yes, they're bad news. Not only were ferocious beasts terrifying, they were also fast and powerful. The worst thing about everything is that they attack their prey in groups."

Hearing Pete's explanation, Vincent's brain screams to run away and doesn't risk becoming the savage beast's dinner.

"Then kit-"

THE BANG!! THE BANG!! THE BANG!!

Vincent manages to shoot the four wolves that suddenly jump at him. Slightly shaken by the incident for a moment, it was fortunate that Vincent did not shift his focus and remained vigilant. Beside him Pete manages to hold one of the wolves that jumped at him with his shield, and Vincent shoots the wolf as it escapes from Pete's shield.

Some of the wolves were seen retreating, perhaps in shock at the loud noise Vincent produced or they were just getting ready to pounce on them back.

It's too late to run, it's a solution that Vincent got after hearing Pete's explanation. But alas, good fortune doesn't seem to depend on them today.

"Lisa! Use [Fireball]!"

Pete gives orders to the witch, though she still looks scared. Lisa chants [Fireball] spell towards the forest in hopes of hitting one of the wolves.

As the fireball flashed, Vincent could see clearly even though for a moment, there were over a dozen of these Grey Wolfs. They were not ordinary wolves with blackish-gray fur that fused with the night. Their size seemed to be double what he knew, coupled with two huge fangs sticking out of their mouths. That's just the true definition of a beast according to Vincent.

The Fireball Spell did not hit anything other than burning bushes, perhaps because of the lack of focus of the spell thrower or because these creatures were very fast.

"Vincent's next to you!"

Gill yells to warn Vincent who is too focused on what is before him. With that warning Vincent immediately turned around and shot randomly to have the wolf retreat and not pounce on him, unfortunately one of them has managed to bite his arm but managed to release with a random shot that Vincent musters.

Knowing the situation becomes more unfavorable Vincent this time around keeps each other's backs with Pete behind him.

"There's a suggestion to survive all this, Leader?"

Vincent asked while shooting at the approaching enemy. Pete did not immediately reply as he was busy dueling the wolves before him. Pete deals a punch with his shield to make the wolf daze for a moment before stabbing the animal with his sword.

"I don't know!" Pete said while slashing the incoming wolf. "Can you produce something so bright and noisy other than that strangely glowing little thing?" Tanya Pete refers to the flashlight.

Vincent asked who was changing the magazines and hit the head of the jumping wolf with his rifle poor.

"Yes! It would be their weakness due to his sharp eyesight, even though it only caught them off guard for a moment and it gave us time for Lisa to chant her strongest spell [Chain Lighting] to kill them!"

"Give our witches a mark, Leader. I can make things like that."

The two men nodded with Pete sticking his sword up into the sky as a sign for Lisa to prepare for her spell. On the other hand Vincent took two Flashbangs in his inventory because it was the amount he could carry at once in a single battle according to the rules of the game and that was also true in this world.

Vincent immediately opened the Flashbangs' second safety pin, throwing one towards the front and another at the back right in front of Pete.

"You may want to close your eyes, Leader."

"Ap-"

But Pete reacts too late, the Flashbangs have exploded and Pete feels his eyes are on fire from Vincent's little toy. Pete didn't expect Vincent to have such a thing but it was worth the cost. Although Pete is upset that Vincent didn't tell him sooner. Maybe there will be a calculation between Pete and Vincent.

The Gray Wolf looked confused and unable to move due to their sharp eyesight blinded by the Flashbangs. Provides an opportunity for Lisa to launch her strongest spell on these wolves.

Gill lost his focus for a moment due to the Flashbangs explosion but managed to recover and shot dead some dazed wolves.

"CHAIN LIGHTING!"

The spell has been chanted, a bolt of lightning comes out of Lisa's wand. Just like its name Chain Lighting, the spell was a bolt of lightning that continuously connected from one enemy to another adjacent enemy, scooping wolves to death and some survivors fleeing into the forest.

Seeing that the situation was under control and their lives were no longer threatened. Pete and Vincent collapsed on their backs.

"Heh... It was an intense night, wasn't it, Leader?"

Vincent said grimacingly looking at the bite wound that Grey Wolf left on his left hand.

"Don't say that, I'm glad we made it alive even though I'm in tatters. How are you doing?"

Said Pete who had mostly dented his armor and scratched from the wolf attacks.

"A little better Leader, two bites and I feel like this damn wolf almost pulled one of my arms out."

"I hope this doesn't happen again."

"Just here Leader, I didn't expect this to happen either."

"I can already imagine many coins from the proceeds selling materials from these Gray Wolf corpses. Ye know? the materials from their body parts are of great value in the market."

"Hee... Thanks for the information, Leader. Maybe next time we can find their nest for coins?"

"It won't happen."

The two share a laugh as Lisa and Gill approach them for first aid.
