Introduction to Sleep

In ancient times, when it was with hope that something could be realized, there was a King who had very beautiful daughters, beautiful princesses, and her youngest daughter was so beautiful that the sun itself that saw the youngest daughter's beauty became hesitant to shine. Near the palace lies a dark and lush woodland, and in the forest, under an old tree with heart-shaped leaves, lies a well; and when the weather is hot, the youngest daughter of the King often went to the forest to sit on the edge of the cold well, and if time was long and boring, she would take out a ball made of gold, he said, throwing her up and recapturing her, it became the entertainment of the king's daughter to pass the time.

Once, the golden ball was played and thrown up, the golden ball slipped from the hands of the King's daughter and fell on the ground near the well and then rolled into the well. The eyes of the king's daughter could only watch as the ball slid into the deep well, so deep that the bottom of the well was no longer visible. The king's daughter began to cry, and continued to cry as if nothing could comfort her anymore. In the midst of his cries he listened to a voice that said to him,

“What makes you so sad, Princess? your tears can melt a heart made of stone.”

And when the king's daughter saw where the source of the voice came from, there was no one in sight, only a frog sticking its ugly big head out of the water.

“Oh, did you speak?” said the princess; “I cried because my golden ball slipped and fell into the well.”

“Do not worry, do not cry,” replied the frog, “I can help you; but what can you give me if I can take the golden ball?”

“Whatever you want,” said; “whatever clothes, pearls and jewelry you want, or this golden crown I wear.”

“Your clothes, pearls, jewels and golden crowns are not for me,” replied the frog; “If you like me, and regard me as a playmate, and let me sit at your table, and eat from your plate, and drink from your glass, and sleep in your bed, – if you promise to do all this, I will dive down the well and get the golden ball for you.”

“Yes sure,” replied the princess; “I promise I will do everything you ask if you want to get me my golden ball.”

But the king's daughter thought, “Omong is empty of what this frog is saying! as if this frog could do what he asked other than to poke with other frogs, how could he be someone's companion.”

But the toad, upon hearing the princess say her promise, pulled her head back into the water and began to dive down, after a while he came back to the surface with a golden ball on his mouth and threw it on the grass.

The king's daughter became very happy to see her toy back, and she picked it up quickly and ran away.

“Stop, stop!” yell the frog; “take me away too, I can't run as fast as you!”

But it was useless because the princess would not listen to him and hastened her flight home, and quickly forgot the incident with the frog, who re-entered the well.

The next day, as the King's daughter was sitting at the table and eating with the King and his ministers on her golden plate, there came the sound of something jumping up and down the stairs, and then there was a knock on the door and a voice that said “The youngest daughter of the king, let me in!”

The youngest daughter of the King then walked to the door and opened the door, when she saw a frog sitting outside, he closed the door back quickly and hurriedly sat back in his chair feeling agitated. The king who noticed the change said,

“My son, what are you afraid of? is there a giant standing outside the door and ready to take you away?”

“Oh.. no,” the answer; “no giants, only ugly toads.”

“Oh papa,” he replied, “when I was sitting in the well yesterday and playing with the golden ball, the ball slipped down into the well, and when I cried because I lost the golden ball, a frog came and promised to get the ball on the condition that I would let it accompany me, but I thought that it was impossible for him to leave the water and come to me; now he was outside the door, and want to come to me.”

And then they all heard the second knock on the door and said,

“Youngest daughter of the King, open the door for me!, What have you promised me? Youngest King's daughter, open the door for me!”

“What you promised you must fulfill,” said the King; “now let him enter.”

When he opened the door, the frog jumped in, following him until the princess sat back in her chair. Then he stopped and begged, “Thank me so I can sit with you.”

But the King's daughter did not care about the frog until the King ordered it back. When the frog was sitting on the chair, he asked that he be put up on the table, and there he said again,

“Now can you pull your dinner plate closer, so we can eat together.”

And the king's daughter did as the frog asked, but all could see that the princess was only forced to do so.

“I feel enough now,” said the frog in the end, “and I feel very tired, you have to take me to your room, I will sleep in your bed.”

Then the King's daughter began to cry imagining the cold frog sleeping in her clean bed. Now the King angrily said to his daughter,

“You are the daughter of the King and what you promised you must fulfill.”

Now the king's daughter lifted the frog with her hand, took it to her room upstairs and put it in the corner of the room, and when the princess began to lie down to sleep, the frog came and said, “I am now tired and want to sleep like you, lift me up on your bed, or I will report it to your father.”

The king's daughter became very angry, lifted the frog up and threw it against the wall in tears,

“Be quiet you ugly toad!”

But when the frog fell to the floor, he changed from a frog to a very handsome prince. At that time the prince also told all the events experienced, how a witch had made a curse to the prince, he said, and no one can release the curse except the princess who has been destined to rule together in her kingdom.

With the consent of the King, they were both married and at that time came a carriage pulled by eight horses and accompanied by Henry the Prince's loyal servant to bring the Princess and the Prince to his own kingdom. When the train began to walk with the two, the Prince listened to a voice like someone had broken in the back of the carriage. At that moment the Prince immediately said to Henry the faithful servant, “Henry, the carriage wheel may be broken!”, but Henry replied, “The carriage wheel is not broken, only the chain bond that binds my broken heart, is, finally I can be free from this bond”.

It turns out that Henry's faithful servant had bound his heart with chains when the Prince was cursed to be a frog in order to be able to feel the suffering experienced by the Prince, and now the chain had been broken because his heart was so happy to see the Prince freed from the curse.
