Once upon a time, there lived a King and Queen who had no children, this matter made the King and Queen very sad. But one day, as the Queen was walking by the river, a little fish lifted his head out of the water and said, ”What you want will be fulfilled, he said, and you will soon have a daughter.”

What the little fish foretold soon came true and the Queen gave birth to a little girl so beautiful that the King could not hold back his joy and held a large banquet. He then invited all his relatives, friends and the entire population in his kingdom. All the fairies in his kingdom were also invited so that they could take care and give blessings to his little daughter.

In his kingdom there were thirteen fairies and the King only had twelve golden plates, so the King decided to invite twelve fairies only and not invite the thirteenth fairy.

All the guests and fairies had been present and after the banquet they gave their best gifts to the little princess, one fairy gave kindness, the other fairy gave beauty, the other gave wealth, the other gave away wealth, and so did the other fairies that the little princess almost got all the best things in the world. When the eleventh elf finished giving her blessing, the thirteenth elf who had not received the invitation and became so enraged, came and took revenge. She said, ”The King's daughter in her fifteenth age will be pierced by a sewing needle and die.” Then the twelfth fairy, who had not given her blessing to the Princess, came forward and said that the curse said by the thirteenth elf would happen, but she could soften the curse, and said that the Princess would not die, but only fall asleep for a hundred years.

The king hoped that he would be able to save his beloved daughter from the threat of the curse and ordered that all sewing needles in his palace should be brought out and destroyed. Meanwhile, all the blessings given by the fairies were realized, the Princess became so beautiful, kind, friendly and wise, that everyone loved her. Right at the age of fifteen, the King and Queen happened to leave the palace, and the Princess was left alone in the palace. The Princess roamed the palace alone and saw the rooms in the palace, until finally he entered an old tower where there was a narrow staircase leading up which ended with a small door. On the door hung a golden key, and when he opened the door, he saw an old woman sewing with a sewing needle and looked very busy.

”Hai good mother,” said the Princess, ”What are you doing here?”

”Suturing and embroidering,” said the old woman, then nodded her head.

”How beautiful are your embroidery results!” said the Princess, and took out a sewing needle and began to embroider. But accidentally he was impaled by the needle and what was predicted when he was a child, happened, the Princess fell to the ground as if lifeless.

Quickly the wild thorny plants around the palace grew and fenced the palace, and every year it grew thick and thick until finally all the places in it were surrounded by the plant and became invisible again. Even the roof and chimney also can not be seen because it has been covered by the plant. But the news of the beautiful princess falling asleep spread all over the land so that many of the King's and Prince's children tried to come and try to enter the palace. But they could never succeed because the spines and the scattered plants intertwined and ensnared them as if they were held by the hand, and finally they could not advance anymore.

After many years passed, the old men told the story of a very beautiful king's daughter, how thick the thorns that fenced the princess's palace were, and how beautiful the palace that was shrouded in thorns. He also told what he had heard from his grandfather that many princes had tried to penetrate the thickets, but none of them had ever succeeded.

Then a prince who heard the story said, ”All these stories will not frighten me, I will go and see the Sleeping Princess.” Although the old man who told the story had prevented the prince from leaving, the prince still insisted on leaving.

By now, a hundred years had passed, and when the prince came to the shrubbery that fenced off the palace, all he saw were beautiful plants that he could pass through easily. The plant closes back tightly when the prince has passed through it. When the prince finally arrived at the palace, he saw that the dog in the courtyard was asleep, as well as the horse in the palace stable, and on the roof he saw a dove that also fell asleep with its head under its wings and when he entered the palace, he saw a fly sleeping on the palace walls, and he saw a fly sleeping on it, and the cook was still holding the child's hair that seemed to grimace in sleep, as if the cook wanted to beat the child.

As he went deeper inside, everything felt so quiet that he could hear the sound of his own breathing, that he arrived at the old tower and opened the door where the Sleeping Princess was. The Sleeping Princess looked so beautiful that the Prince could not take his eyes off the Princess. The Prince knelt down and kissed the Princess. It was then that the Princess opened her eyes and woke up, smiling at the Prince because the curse of the thirteenth elf had been broken.

The two of them then came out of the tower and at that time the King and Queen had also awakened including all her ministers who looked at each other in amazement. The palace horses woke up and neighed, the dogs also jumped up and barked, the pigeons on the rooftop took their heads out from under their wings, looked around and flew up into the sky, the walled fly immediately flew back, the fire in the kitchen was lit, the cook who had held a boy's hair and wanted to punish him continued his sentence by turning the child's ears until the child cried.

Finally the King and Queen held a wedding feast for the Princess and the Prince which ended in happiness all their lives.
