My boy, I Love You

My boy, I Love You
Chapter 4 Who My Father Is

"Mommy."

"Yes, baby" Lia replied as she drove Leon to school.

"Leon is big enough. Will you tell me about Leon's father? Who her? Is he a good man? Why doesn't he live with us?"

Lia sighed. The question he was truly afraid of had come up. Of course Lia knew, Leon had kept this kind of question for a very long time just to keep his feelings in check.

All this time he could always avoid answering in various ways.

Lia smiled, "Darling, do you need to tell me what your father is like?"

Leon nodded. "Leon was really waiting for my mom to tell me about Leon's father. Leon's been wondering what Leon's dad's been like."

"Come Leon. Now's not the right time," said Lia. "you'll be late for class if you hear mami's story."

With her obedience the little boy opened the car door and got off.

"Bye mami, see you," he said as he waved his hand.

The little boy walked down the hallway of his new school. He had to find the principal's room. Some students looked at him in surprise. Yes, of course they were astonished. Leon looks foreign to them and without a uniform.

A male teacher who passed by him, greeted him. "Hi--are you the exchange student?"

"Yes, Sir. I was looking for the principal's room" Leon replied.

"Call me Mr. Ray. I'm the student teacher here," said the man with his gentle smile. "let me show you the place."

Leon followed him from behind until he reached a room at the end of the hall before a staircase climbed to the second floor.

Mr. Ray knocked on the door before turning the knob. A middle-aged woman looked at Leon with a smile on her lips.

"You've arrived, Leon. Sit Leon. And Ray, thank you. You may leave us," the woman pointed to a long sofa beside where I was standing.

"So tell me why you volunteered as a student exchange participant, Leon," the principal said without making small talk. He walked to the sofa where Leon was sitting.

"I want to know the birthplace of my parents, Mrs-"

"Tina," he answered. "it is almost impossible for a student who is still your age to follow the exchange. What makes you pass the selection."

The little boy smiled. "You'll find out soon enough, Mrs. Tina."

"alright. I'll be patient to see why you passed the fairly strict exchange selection in your school."

"May I join my class now?"

"Come" said the woman. He stood up and walked out of his room down the hallway of the school. Leon followed her from behind.

Mrs. Tina stopped in front of a class. He knocked on the door before turning the knob. The atmosphere of the classroom became quiet as the woman stepped in.

"Kids. You have a new friend. He was a student of St. Mary Singapore's. I hope you can be good friends with him."

"Alright, I leave it to you next, Miss Nadya." Mrs. Tina nodded at a young teacher next to her. After that, he left the class.

"Introduce yourself to all your friends." The voice of the beautiful teacher's mother sounded as the classroom door closed.

"Hi, my name is Leonard Savero. I'm 7 years old. I love math and music. Nice to meet you guys" Leonard said.

Some kids smile. Leonard has a cheerful face. It is easy to make new friends and adapt to the new environment.

"Sit down Leon" Miss Nadya ordered.

Again about family. I don't even know who my father is, who my grandparents are. Do I have to write Grany Diane, Mami and I vertically.

The boy confusedly thought about how he should complete this supposedly very easy task.

^^^Will mom tell me who my dad is? What exactly is he hiding? Was my father not such a good man that my mother avoided him, even hid him from me?^^^

^^^Ah-mami. Why so mysterious. Don't I have a right to know who my father is? Why is it so hard to get my rights?^^^

There was a bell ringing, a lesson sign was over. Leon packed his writing equipment and walked out of the school.

Lia waved her hand. He waited for Leon in front of the school fence. With a bright smile, Leon approached his mother. His bag was swaying on his back along with his nimble little steps.

"Mommy," she said.

"How was your day, baby?" ask Lia.

"Unbelievable mom. I met a lot of new friends. They are very different from my friends in Singapore" she said, "and my homeroom teacher. Madam Nadya is a beautiful teacher. His voice is so soft."

Lia smiling. He was also happy to see the smile on the face of his beloved son.

"Mommy, I want to hear your story about Dad. Didn't you intend to tell me this morning?" The boy picked up a story he hadn't heard this morning. "At the same time Madam Nadya gave me the task of telling my family. I wouldn't be able to make it if my mom hadn't told me about my dad."

Lia sighed. He remained focused on his steering wheel while occasionally glancing at his son. Leon looked at his mother expectantly.

"You want to know your father, son?" said Lia. His feelings are mixed. Anxious not knowing what to answer to his little boy.

"What you need to know about your father, he's a manly and handsome man. He's a smart and talented guy" Lia said, "like you, Leon. You're the son who always makes mom proud."

Disappointed on Leon's face. He turned his face away, and stared out the window. See the hustle and bustle of the city streets.

^^^Ah-maybe mami is not ready to tell the truth about father. I need to be more patient. Or should I find out my way. Hmm--I have to find dad my way. How do I get my mom to tell me.^^^

Lia glanced at her son, she caught a sense of disappointment on his face. His mind was very chaotic but he tried to cover it up and stay focused with his wheel.

^^^"Leon, how should I tell you about your father? Not even your father knows who your mother is, he never even knew where you were, son. You don't need to know about your mother's dark past. Even without a father, mom would try to make you happy."^^^

No tears flowed from Lia's eyes. He quickly rubbed his cheek with the back of his hand.

"Mommy, is mommy crying?" the little boy's voice broke the silence, resuscitating Lia from the daydreams and emotions that ravaged her heart.

"No Leon. Mommy's okay." Lia pointed the AC hole in front of her in the other direction while smiling at her son who had caught her wet. "painful mami's eyes hit the AC spotlight."
