“In Jakarta only eleven hours, yes.” comments Abas. “It's natural that your boyfriend calls...kangen?.”
“Pastya. We talked long enough, I became laper.”
“There is indeed food?”
“Gue has brown tart if mas Abas want.”
Abas shook his head, “No, thanks! Milk to make you sleepy. Extra brown tart will even make fat.”
Yudi shrugged, it did not matter if Abas refused, he who would lose himself because he missed the cake made by a sweet girl named Mirna. Take small plates and forks off the kitchen shelf and open the refrigerator. As soon as he saw what was inside there Yudi spontaneously screamed. His screams not only startled Abas but also the rats that were gnawing on his tart cake, realizing the presence of humans and immediately chipped out of the refrigerator, he said, the four-legged rodent sped away into the corner at the end of the refrigerator.
“Crazy! How did those rotten animals get into the refrigerator?” Abas crouched down in the last place the rats left. A hole was lodged in the corner covered by the refrigerator, it seemed to be the work of the rats and although the size was not too large it was enough to be a space for the rodents to enter the kitchen filled with food treasures.
“Entaihlah, you should have told me,” Yudi joking. “You are the one from earlier in the kitchen.”
Yudi menggelos saw the giving of Mirna only into a box with an open cover while the contents stayed crumbs and chocolate powder. There was nothing left, and even if there was something left by those bastard beasts, of course Yudi had no interest in touching it. Angrily he took out a tart box to throw it in the trash.
“Surely someone was careless to leave the refrigerator door open so that the rats could enter,” Abas expressed his opinion.
It might be able to provide a reassuring explanation for others, but still strange for Yudi because of the many food ingredients owned by mess managers, he said, commonly used to make breakfast for mess residents and stored in the refrigerator, only tartnya so victim. The young man shrugged and intended to forget about it, “Maybe too. Or maybe I'm just being unlucky.”
“Sial or not, for sure this must be reported to Mr. Agus so that it can be taken care of tomorrow.”
When Yudi returned to his room with a feeling of annoyance because of misfortune made him fail to taste the tart made by Mirna, elsewhere the rats had bad luck that was no less stifling than Yudi. Successfully escaping from the kitchen does not mean the four-legged rodents can breathe a sigh of relief. A monstrous creature with a human-like head was waiting in the air, and as soon as the rats came out it immediately ambushed and swallowed the four-legged rodents with its wide mouth and pointed fangs.
The last rat squeaked desperately, the animal barely managed to escape if only his legs were not dragged down by a sewer. When the rat rolled, the creature scooped it ferociously and at once its fangs tore at the poor body of the mouse which soon vanished into the mouth of the terrible creature in the blink of an eye. The strange creature moved its mouth full of blood melts with a triumphant smile. None of those annoying rats escaped him.
A few seconds later the creature soared into the air and through the darkness of the night down the settlement on the mainland. The light of the lamp that shines beneath it is like a firefly that gives the clue that becomes the next destination. The creature descended in a light motion while hiding among the leaves of trembesi trees growing around the house to which it was targeted.
The house looked gloomy because the residents only turned on a few lights, only lighting on the terrace and in one of the rooms on the second floor only lit up. The bright light from the lit room revealed the sight of two lovers in the bedroom. A man of Caucasian descent with sand hair was laying on the bed in pajamas indicating he was ready to sleep but his eyes were still busy sweeping the newspaper in hand, while the woman sat in front of the dresser and combed her hair while looking at the makeup mirror. Several times the woman stroked her distended stomach.
“I found a name for this baby today,” reprimand the woman.
“Malachea..”.
The man took down his newspaper, “Malakhea? Like Malakh, the angel, or Malacca, the border of Borneo?”
“Both, in guess..”
“Well, that’s a fine name. I liked the sound, Malakhea,” the husband responded. “But it rather if we gave that name to a baby-girl, don’ you think?”
“We called him, Malky, if he’s a boy. Instead, we called her Khea, if she’s a girl.”
The man looked at the woman with a smile, “Sounds like you’ve already think of it perfectly. So, Malakhea it is..”
“Malakhea Felds,” the smiling woman nodded. He stroked his stomach several times while the man was again busy reading his newspaper. Just then the woman noticed a strange movement from the leaves of the trembesi tree facing the window of her room. Something seemed to be peering from there.
The woman got up from her dressing table and walked towards the window to take a closer look. The leaves of the tree moved several times because of the wind from outside but despite trying to squint his eyes did not find anything strange.
Maybe it was just a passing night beast, some kind of owl or bat that happened to fly across a row of trembesi trees growing near the house, such animals still roam the city a lot and it is not strange, just as natural when he found some monkeys hanging in the trees during the day on the first day of his arrival here. Something he didn't find in his native America.
“What’s a matter?” the man dropped off his newspaper and asked, astonished to see the woman looking at the window.
“Nothing,” the woman replied. “I thought I heard something from outside.”
“There are plenty of sounds here,” the guy commented. “The one that different from what you always heard on Chicago. You better get used to it if you want to move here.”
“I know! I will..”.
“You’ve just tired. Why don’t you get sleep now,” says the man.
“Let me turn off the lights first,” sahut the wife while sliding the curtain to close the window. The light in the stranger's room went out, but it did not make the strange creature leave, he kept watch in the silence of the night. After making sure it is safe enough, slowly near the house...
