"Darling, are you okay?" asked David who had just arrived at the hospital. He stood in front of the patient's bed, about two meters in front of Aretha.
"You're from the office straight here, Mas?" aretha asked her head which immediately got a nod from David. "I'm getting better. It felt like coming home soon" he added, then refocused his gaze on a novel he was reading.
David looked to smile for a moment. "Patience .. later if you really have recovered, you will definitely go home soon" said David. Aretha simply nodded in response to him.
"Where are you mom?" david asked as he looked around the room.
"Mommy is redeeming medicine, Mas," replied Aretha. His eyes focused on scanning the book. It seems that's one of the ways Aretha gets rid of her saturation being in the hospital.
They were silent for a moment. David just stared at Aretha who was sitting on the patient bed while busy with her activities. Don't wanna get dizzy. The man immediately took over the empty part beside Aretha, then landed his body there.
His net was still focused towards the girl. Staring at the face sculpture that turned out to be so perfect if observed from the side.
The child's hair that fell covered part of the girl's face from her hair that was twisted imperfectly. However, it did not detract from the beauty of the girl at all. And his cheeks are chubby. It is so adorable to be looked at by the eyes.
The girl's gaze was still focused on a novel book on her lap, without paying too much heed to the man beside her. In fact, he did not realize that David had been watching him.
Sometimes the girl smiled lightly making David smile to see her. It turns out reading can make it that much fun, David thought.
"Darling, is that book more fun than me?" david asked without distracting himself from Aretha's face.
"Hn?" Aretha. His focus was distracted by the man who was sitting next to him.
Does she love me so much that she's jealous of books?
"I finished one more sheet, it's okay, right?" aretha asked, hoping David would understand.
"Alright, you go on," replied David.
The girl resumed her activities, while David started playing his phone, checking some incoming message notifications. He changed his seat to face the nightstand.
"Mas, aren't you tired? Shouldn't you just go home?"
Aretha's question immediately made David flinch, after a while he was busy playing with the device in his hand. The man looked up, then turned his head towards the girl beside him.
"It's only been a few minutes here, you've been kicked out" grumbled David.
Aretha placed the book on the nightstand, then turned her attention back to David. "It's not so, Mom. I just don't want to see you sick from exhaustion" he replied.
David smiled and responded. He was happy, but Aretha was also worried about him. "You're done?" ask David.
"That's it," briefed Aretha.
"So fast?" David frowned in surprise, but he thought he had not even three minutes, Aretha had finished one sheet reading the book.
"You're too busy with your phone!" syndir Aretha.
David put his phone back in his pants pocket. Then justify his sitting position, facing Aretha perfectly, after before he faced his body towards the nightstand.
"Darling, it was you who made me like that" David said, clasping Aretha's left hand, sending the girl's focus distracted.
"Mas, don't start, deh!" aretha was a little upset.
"What's? I'm just holding it" complained David.
Aretha clucked in annoyance. "Be careful if you dare to mess around!" threaten her. However, David only gave a smile.
"Darling, I want to ask you something" David said.
"Just ask, Mom! What do you want to ask?"
"Mm .. Do you have a problem with someone?" david asked to know.
"Problems? What problems?" Aretha looked astonished.
"anything. Maybe with your friends at college?"
David nodded. "Thank God" he responded.
"Why indeed?" Aretha raised her eyebrows.
"No. That's okay," David replied, publishing his smile as if he didn't want to make Aretha more astonished.
They went back quiet for a moment. David looked back at the girl. Long enough to make Aretha feel a little uncomfortable in the eyes of the seintens.
Instantly the man remembered the final discussion with Richard. Remembering that left him a little challenged to prove to Richard and Rendy that he can do and prove his point.
"Darling, how about we cancel our engagement?" david asked a little doubt.
Aretha rounded her eyes, then frowned. "Why?" tanyanya flat.
Why would she suddenly want to cancel the engagement? Is it because I—
David smiled. " After some thought, we should just get married immediately," he replied softly while cutting off the word Vatin Aretha. David tightened his hand.
"Married?" Aretha further rounded her eyes.
Ah, Mas David ... Why did he suddenly ask me to get married? I was confused.
"Son David, you're already here apparently." Carmila's voice instantly distracted the two.
"Aunty?" David lifted his body while standing up.
"You from earlier, son?" carmila asked, after she had stored the medicine on the bathtub.
"Just now, Auntie," replied David quietly.
"Yes already, then the auntie tipped Rere again yes, the aunt must immediately see a doctor," said Carmila.
"Oh, yes well, Auntie," David replied assuringly.
Carmila came back out of the room, rushing to the doctor's office who was treating Aretha, while David and Aretha resumed their conversation.
"Mas, if you want to go home, just go home. I'm fine to be left alone" said Aretha.
"Who says I want to go home, I'll accompany you tonight." David again grabbed Aretha's hand, clasped it tightly.
"No need, Mom! let your mother accompany me tonight" replied Aretha refused.
"You haven't answered my question" David said, ignoring Aretha's words.
Aretha remained silent for a while. He seemed confused as to what to answer. It was not an easy thing for him to decide just like that, without thinking again. For marriage is sacred and concerns two different hearts, while Aretha still does not know the real David.
However, even though he still believes that David is a good man, it's just that he feels it's too soon for him. Moreover, he has a commitment to complete his studies first.
"I promise, I won't forbid you to continue your studies, even if we're married later." David stared at the chocolate bead. There was earnestness to his gaze, and Aretha realized that. He looked at David.
Looks like David's mas is serious, I don't have the heart if I have to refuse. Not to mention he's getting braver to me. I became worried, it could be that one day he was doing something out of bounds. It's got me in a dilemma.
"Darling ... Please," said David pleading as he further tightened his hand grip.
Aretha still thought, then answered slowly. "It's up to you" replied Aretha.
"YES!" heboh David, signifying that he was very happy to get Aretha's answer. He kissed Aretha's hand happy. However, her euphoria suddenly disappeared just like that, when Carmila reappeared in the room. As quickly as lightning David released Aretha's hand, then stopped the action.
