Shadow King Chronicles: Building a Kingdom From Behind the Scenes
Magic Cannon

A few months before spring, midwinter.

As usual, because it is winter, community activities are still not as crowded as usual. But slowly, when the temperature starts to warm, people start to move as usual again.

In the morning, the children cheerfully left for kindergarten. Meanwhile, young people aged 8 to 16 years leave for school or the library. They could have gone to the academy. But due to the high cost, their parents decided to send their children to Versailles.

Traders have also started their own activities. Two hours after sunrise, they started opening their shops and taking out their wares. The surrounding food stalls started to smoke and customers who were mostly people ready to work that morning began to arrive.

Uniquely, on the streets of towns and villages, there were several stone-operated golems to clear the snow that had piled up in the middle of the road. Although the numbers were not many, a single Golem could at least clear a kilometer of road. It was a masterpiece from one of Heinz's students who had graduated from the imperial academy.

It is still in the development stage. But when it is finished, it is possible that the Golem can be mass-produced and used to help with daily work. Although, it might take a while.

If any outsider were to visit Versailles and its surroundings, he would probably be surprised to see as if the fierce battles that were going on in the kingdom had never happened here. They stay as usual. There is no tension.

But some distance outside the city, in a village that was quite remote and covered in forest, more than fifteen people were gathering. Near them, there were at least three cylindrical objects covered by a black cloth.

"So, these are the weapons they use to fight each other huh? It looks pretty amazing."

One of them observed something wrapped in the cloth with an amazed face. While the person beside him retaliated.

"Indeed right. This is an amazing weapon but at the same time, it is also terrible. This thing has enough power to break into a wall."

"Indeed. But when compared to what they have...is not this object smaller in size? Apparently, the destructive power they have is also not as great as the one they use."

"It doesn't matter even if it's not big. It will still benefit us. Larger weapons may have greater destructive power and can tear down the opponent's mentality.

"But if objects of that size are brought to an open battlefield, they are not at all effective because they are difficult to maneuver and heavy. With smaller models, besides being easy to maneuver, we will still have many other advantages."

Those gathered there were Issac, Anna, Aurellia, Charles Hill, the captain of the artillery division and its members. They are preparing to test the new weapons they imported from the eastern continent. It was a magic cannon.

Actually, the magic cannon was being adjusted to the conditions of the Lantos Continent. It is only natural for the eastern continents to use large cannons because they have large animals that the explorers described as a large animal with horns growing around their long noses.

But it was different in the Lantos continent. In addition to the contours of the land and the geographical shape that has many mountains and is separated by many forests and rivers, the, no animal of that size could transport the huge magic cannons used by the empire in the Eastern Continent.

That was why the magic cannons they used were actually completely unsuitable for use in this war. After all, to make a magic cannon, it takes a lot of important materials that are quite limited in number. It would be very expensive to make or repair them if they were damaged.

"Well, how about we try it?"

"Master's right. You people! Prepare the magic cannons immediately! Each of you will be divided into three men to operate the cannon."

Several Starfall troops belonging to the artillery division immediately prepared to operate the cannon. They have used this several times. However, this is an enhanced version.

The soldiers immediately cleaned the cannon hole and put an iron ball into it. Then, one of them put a powder into a small hole at the base of the cannon. As soon as the preparations were finished, they directly attached the torches they were holding and....

BUUUUM!! The cannon sounds loud. The ejected iron bullets created a huge explosion and hollowed out the ground. The effect of the explosion was quite large. Apart from being an iron bullet, it was also affected by powder coming from materials containing a lot of mana.

"Uhhhh!! His voice made my ears a little deaf. But the result, quite unexpected, right?"

Aurellia commented like that while looking at the crater created from the cannon fire. If it hits the wall, it's possible that it will break even if only one shot.

"The results are pretty good. Engineers have gone to great lengths to develop these cannons. Charles, how many do we have of them?"

"For now, we have ten master units. Actually, we want to produce more. But because the manufacturing process is so complicated and expensive this is our limit."

Anna and Issac nodded. It does. It took him a long time to develop a cannon that fit the specifications he requested. And also with the expensive price. Issac imported one cannon through a network owned by Carolina. Of course he has to spend a lot of money on it.

But the investment did get decent results. Finally, the Starfall army had a good quality of war equipment. Issac told Charles to put some cannons on the military base.

Good though. At least, the things to worry about have diminished. He needs to finish a few more things before starting his campaign in the spring.
