Chapter 44
Make noodles
That night, Claude, his younger sister and younger brother ate in the attic. Their diet is quite simple, only white bread, bacon, potatoes cooked with beef bones, venison, and some baked apples. Even so, Angelina was quite happy with the meal, and Bloweyk was even more pumped up. He jumped nonstop on Claude's bed, overjoyed. He even played hide-and-seek behind pillows with Claude and Angelina.
Claude had no idea what his parents were saying to the pathetic nonsense he had beaten up. But from that night, Arbeit was no longer at home. Her sister told her two days later that she had been sent to Sir Fux's house and would stay there for a while.
Two days later, Claude began riding training at school. Since the four of them already knew about the trip, they had a very easy time during class. They only spent a week to complete the horse riding course. That means that in the next three weeks, they won't have to attend two riding class sessions in the afternoon and can go home early.
But there is not much to do in getting home early. It would be better for them to ride more in school. After all, they had already paid a fee for two horses, so not attending class would be worthless of the two thales they paid to rent a horse.
Claude didn't want to go home at all. Recently, the atmosphere in his house was rather gloomy, with his parents looking rather grim. Although they did not express any thoughts of Claude defeating Arbeit, Claude could not help but feel a little guilty about it.
No matter what, Arbeit was still his elder brother in name. The fact that Claude did not tell him to their parents first and beat him in front of them was impolite not to say it to his parents. At least, that was how Claude felt about it.
When they don't attend riding classes at school, Claude gets dragged in by Welikro and Borkal to fish by the lake. The two people were hooked on fishing lately and they could sit by the lake all afternoon. Every time they got a catch, they would jump in happily and show it to Claude, more like an addict.
Although Claude did not particularly like fishing, he enjoyed the calmness that came with it. However, he did not really like to spend his time in the lake. After all, he had nowhere else to go. Eriksson is stuck with fixing fish nets with the women at the dock. Ever since he bought the adult book from the bookstore, he liked to hang out with many women. Claude had absolutely no interest in listening to the endless gossip the women were spreading so he preferred fishing.
Fishing sessions are pretty good. When it was five in the afternoon, Claude decided that it was best for him to go home. He found that there was a guest in his house when he returned. A young man in his early twenties spoke to his mother, with a small square-shaped cardboard box placed on a table. It looked like a gift cake from Lisa's Bakery located in the south of the city.
After a while, the young man politely said goodbye and left.
"Who is he? I've never seen him" Calude said.
His mother said, "He's Mr. Thomas, our new tenant. He brought us the cake to thank us for renting the room to him."
New tenant? I didn't hear anyone move.
"Oh, he rented the attic next to you," added his mother.
The attic next door? "What about Miss Christina?"
"Oh, that woman left the Whitestag. Your father worked with the boss of a trading company and he agreed to move the woman to another town somewhere else. He would never have any hope of returning for the rest of his life. That way, he would never be able to disturb the Arbeit again. "It seems like Mrs Ferd hates Christina so much that she doesn't even want to use her name. Perhaps he was trying to blame Arbeit's mistakes on her completely, thinking that it was the woman's seduction that caused his obedient son with a bright future to stray from his path.
"The woman left this morning. To make sure that he left the city without causing any trouble, your father had to give him ten golden cronies to cover his mouth. What a poisonous and greedy woman .. She will surely suffer heavenly retribution. No God would want to protect such an immoral woman … "
It was a huge financial loss. To ensure that Christina would leave the Whitestag in silence, Morssen had no choice but to spend a fortune, ten whole gold cronies. That's equal to 50 thales of silver, half a year of Morssen's salary. But it can't help. Morssen did not want the scandal between Christina and her son to spread throughout the Whitestag and the best option was to send him away with money. It's something he didn't see coming.
"What do we eat for dinner?" Claude hurriedly interrupted his mother's scolding. This was the first time she had seen her mother so angry since she had moved into this world.
"Oh, tonight? As usual, I guess. Your father said that he wouldn't come home for dinner, and Arbeit wouldn't be here either, so the four of us are home."
"Hmm, how about this, Mother, let's have some noodles tonight. I think the noodles I made definitely tasted better than the ones they made in Big Fork," Claude said confidently.
"Do you know how to make noodles?" ask her mother to doubt.
"of course. It's so simple that I learned it after seeing it once or twice. But of course it tastes better."
First, he washed his hands and cleaned the bowl. Then, she poured flour into it, added water, and three eggs before she mixed them.
"This will make the noodles taste like eggs. Much more delicious that way," Claude said as he squeezed a little and gave Bloweyk a little nose, whitening it with flour, "Down. You're six and you still want Mom to hold you? Are you not ashamed? "
"No way, I want to see Claude make noodles" said the boy.
"Claude, can I watch too?" the girl said as she joined.
"All right, just look at it from the side. See how I make us good noodles." Claude knelt down as he explained, "The noodles I made should be kneaded with a little energy. That way, it will turn into more spring and the win will stick to the mouth when you bite it. "
I think there is too much water. . . No problem, I'll add more flour. Huh, now it's a bit too difficult. . . And more water.
Claude's forehead started to sweat. She felt like an awkward housewife. When he added water one last time, his sweat almost dripped into the mixture. It was almost ready, but the constant cycle of adding water and flour made a little too much. Although the stirring bowl was not that big, more than half of it was filled. Fortunately, his mother and siblings did not realize something was wrong.
After all that was kneaded, Claude pinched a bit of dough and gave it to his mother and sister. "Sense texture. This is the right level of stiffness. The noodles they made in Big Fork were not squeezed like that at all. It was not really noodles, they were more like pieces of flour rolled into thin pieces. They have no springiness at all once they are cooked and like to stick inside your teeth. "
Too bad he doesn't know how to pull noodles. He could not just press it until the paper became thin before cutting it into a long, smooth shape.
In another pot in the kitchen, beef bone soup was being cooked. They would make boiled potatoes for dinner at first, but the potatoes had not been added, so Claude decided to use the soup as a stock for his noodles.
He cut potatoes into slices and broccoli into small pieces. There are too few vegetables in his house and they usually only have the most common vegetables so they will just toss into the pot to cook. He had no choice but to fry it with salt and fry four more eggs before starting to cook the noodles.
He then got four large silver plates which they usually use to serve guests and put noodles in the middle of the plate. After that, he added slices of potatoes and pieces of broccoli around the noodles and poured the delicious soup before adding the entire dish with fried eggs on top. Claude's beef soup noodles are finally complete.
Tastes good! The little girl in his section with a smile on her face. His two eyes narrowed into a small crescent moon and an expression of happiness could be seen on his face.
The fat little boy on the other side ate with his hands. He was not very adept at using forks, so he stuffed noodles into his mouth before inhaling the rest.
"Wow, this is really good. You really beat yourself up there, Claude," his mother praised. But he turned around and looked at the large bowl of dough left and asked hesitantly, "Are you going to make the rest into noodles? Want to leave some for me to bake into bread for tomorrow?"
"It's okay. By the way, make bread with it," said Claude, delighted, "I forgot that we're only going to have a foursome dinner. I made too much for us to finish because I kept adding flour and water. I wonder what we should do with it. Thank goodness it won't be in vain. "
After finishing a large bowl of noodles, Claude returned to his attic, satisfied. Noodles were one of his favorite foods in his past life. Had it not been for the noodles he tried at Big Fork, he would not have thought of trying to make them. In his previous world, all he had to do to get noodles was buy them from the market. There was no need for him to make it himself. He also didn't really know how to make ramen, so he just made a simple pancake after he moved.
He likes to eat noodles, sweet potato vermicelli in particular. It is made with sweet potato powder and adds water to the mixture. After that, the starch is added through a strainer and the dough mixture will be pressed through the equipment put together, forming it into long, hair-like vermicelli which will then be half-cooked and dried.
However, he wasn't sure if the process could be used with regular flour. It might work, but he couldn't experiment with it at home. He thought he could try it at Eriksson's secret headquarters when his father left, set sail. That way, it will have enough space.
Making noodles is quite troublesome. Claude had considered making a different steamed bun but it required a yeast powder, something that was not available in this world. She remembered that making bread also required yeast, so she made a mental note to ask her mother how she did it. If possible without yeast, he might be able to find a way to make steamed bread. Now, all he had to do was find the steamboat.
After thinking for a moment, he woke up from his food fantasy.
She is shocked to discover that her father spent so much money to get Christina to leave Whitestag. His father had stopped the scandal from its roots.
It seems like you are ready to face such a problem. Although it seemed like she was suffering a huge loss on the surface, all she needed was Miss Christina to leave the city for a while. Even if he returns in the future and makes a big fuss over it, it won't affect our family's reputation in the slightest because no one will believe him. Instead, they would think that he was deliberately fabricating to slander our family and might do so under someone else's instructions. . .
But this will only work if that stupid Arbeit doesn't cause any trouble and looks for Miss Christina. Even so, Claude was confident that his father would never allow such a thing to happen.
The problem is over. Claude opened the drawer and took out a magic notebook and started translating it.
