Chapter 86
Women's Spell
Claude stood in front of the winding road. It looked like it was made by a wealthy landowner rather than a local government. It was sprinkled with huge rocks filled with mud; the city streets were usually some sort of business, hard gravel, like a sand business.
The yellowed road, regardless of the wind, was quite flat and neat. However, Claude did not expect that to last long. The weather in the area is hard on the rocks, and it rains like acid – it eats the stones quickly. If the road is often traveled, wooden wheels made of metal will wear it quickly.
The kingdom bans travel on private roads, but the three southwestern prefectures do not enforce that specific law. They generally keep vehicles away from private roads and lanes, but travelers on foot are not bothered. The worst that will happen to Claude is a quick interrogation of his identity and motives.
He followed the way up the hill and back to the other side, then up the next hill and onto the other side. He began to climb up the third hill, when he heard a panicked cry in the next corner.
"It's shocking! Hurry up, after that! Goddamnit! Madam is still in coach! How do you drive?"
Claude looked to the end of the road to find a dashing black horse darting straight at him. A little coach was dancing behind him. Beyond that, two people came clumsily like crazy idiots. One looked like a butler and the other like a coachman.
The road was only three meters wide, enough for a coach to travel comfortably, but not for anything else to move or pass through. It was slow enough to react to small changes in the straight path, but there was no way to turn.
The horse was only ten meters away from him at the time what happened was listed.
"Bang!" he shouted instinctively and the horse's eyes blurred.
However, that majestic animal was no ordinary market horse. While it calms and loses consciousness, it does not go away. His pace continues to be confident, if only in his capacity to keep it upright. Slow down to run, then walk, and stop right in front of the child. Claude took his reign, and waited for the two servants to catch up.
He was overjoyed that he had managed to use Mental Shock in his first crisis situation, but his ears and eyes remained alert. He filled the triangle with mana just in case, ready to throw Mental Shock again at the rustling of the leaves.
The coach door swung open and an elegant woman, no more than her early thirties, peered out. Her hair was a mess, and her dress was tangled like old paper.
"It's okay, Madam," Claude said as he bowed politely. The woman has a beautiful figure – high with the right curve in the right place. What his skin showed a little was fine silk.
He wiped his hair off his face and examined Claude closely. Claude bowed again, quickly, but froze in the middle of his greeting.
"Thank you for saving my life, young magus."
Claude beat up half of his horse. How could he be found so quickly ?! It's all over now! But he hasn't done a tenth of what he dreamed!
"M-Sorry?" Claude succeeded with an air of sincere confusion and half-hidden panic.
The woman smiled. His lips opened and another stream of daggers shot towards him.
"Oh, you didn't hear? Surely that is impossible, Master Magus? I mean, you're a magus, right? Besides, it's the spell you used to stop the horse. Oh, sorry lack of manners, I haven't even asked my savior's name yet! "
Just the three of them. He can do it. He's got to do it. He's gonna kill them and make it look like an accident, that's almost all, anyway. It wasn't murder, he was just going to release his rescue from them. He was so far from anything and everyone, no one would realize he was, an innocent 16-year-old boy was the one who did it.
Claude's mind turned around. He didn't even hear her speak. His mind was completely occupied with how to make everything go away. He can't just run away, his fall to witchcraft will bring his family too. She did not care much about what happened to her father and older brother, but her mother and her younger siblings. . . He could not bear to imagine being the cause of their suffering.
"It's okay. Destiny brought us together, so I just did my part. My parents taught me that one should always help wherever one can. I'm a nobody. You can't make your ears gurgle with my name. Anyway, I didn't do much. "
"Hehe, you're an interesting kid. You are nothing more than a child but you sound grown up. Let me hear your name. I wonder which family produces such talent."
The woman's smile was warm, but it quickly disappeared as she looked coldly in her gaze at him and his two servants.
"You mean to kill us?" the woman asked, her eyes glaring.
"What?" Claude tried to act foolish despite knowing his killing intent was too obvious in his eyes.
"Haha. Don't be so uptight, young man. Calm. You probably haven't killed anyone before, have you? You haven't learned to hide your intentions. Your eyes shout for the whole world to hear. Stop and think a little, will you? Tell me, how do you think I know you used a spell? Normal people can't feel mana at all, you know. "
"Come, let's go to my house, I'll show you what I mean" the woman replied, the same warm smile returning to her face.
It was Claude's turn to get tired. Did he lure her into his lair to kill or imprison her? Does he want to make her a slave, or a test subject? His mind raced for a long while, then slowly, and reluctantly, calmly. He was right, ordinary people could not sense mana at all, how could he easily know that he would cast a spell if he himself was not a magus?
Ugh, that doesn't make him feel much better either. Then again, he could at least still kill her later if it turned out that he was playing a trick on her. His curiosity quickly covered his exhaustion. He had been infatuated with magic ever since he had obtained something magical, and it had gotten worse as he slowly started to set foot on the path of magic. How could he resist the opportunity to interact with another magus?
"alright. I'll come along" Claude said firmly after another round of consideration.
The coachman and butler arrived in the middle of the puff and *******.
"Bu ... Madam, are you ... alright?"
The butler gasped. The coachman secretly takes the reign from Claude and examines his horse.
"I'm fine, Rodan," the woman replied gracefully and pointed towards Claude, "This young man calms his horse. You should come find me at the foot of the hill, otherwise."
The two quickly bowed to Claude with a huge thank you and insisted he accompany them to the woman's palace. The butler refused to let the woman ride the coach, and asked them to wait by the roadside while the coachman took her back and changed her horse.
"You're a strange young man, carrying a rifle even though you're a magus. Didn't you know the rifle was reviled by the magi? It is a demonic instrument. We magi were banished from Freia because of those heinous things. ! "
His butler examined Claude with slightly tired eyes at the woman's words.
"I know there's nothing taboo" Claude replied, "I've never heard of it. As far as I'm concerned, a shotgun is just a useful tool, like magic."
"Ohh …"
He opened his mouth, then closed it, biting his words.
"Then why are you on my land with that thing?" he even asked.
"I'm just passing by. I'm headed all the way up the hills to hunt wild boar."
"But it's all my land. You are a very brave little boy. Are you sure you can take a boar alone with your rifle?"
"Yes . "
The woman turned to her butler, who was following behind the two.
"Rodan, are there really wild boars in the hills?"
The butler nodded.
"Sioris has seen boars on the hill before, yes. We don't know where they came from. They have ruined most of our cassava harvest this year. We would hire some hunters to look after them, but then you start visiting more often and we decided not to bring in outsiders. "
"I see," the woman nodded slightly, "We won't need any more hunters. This young man can take care of it for us. Can't you, young man?"
"I can, Madam."
The coach came running around the corner again. The coachman had switched not only the horse, but also the trainer. The previous one had a small, purple-black cabin, with a silver rose emblem on the door.
It takes the three to a unique house hidden in the woods. The first thing he saw when they came out of the thick canopy into the empty land that housed the manor house, was an incredible fountain. A large tea garden stretches from the fountain in eight quadrants, divided along one axis along the road leading to the manor itself. It is split along an axis perpendicular by a river of carefully inclined rock.
"Come in" said the woman as she stepped through the front door.
A bright light suddenly illuminated the room. When he followed the shadow to the light source, he was surprised to see it was the woman's hand. A small ball of light floated above his tiny palm, and when he struck it gently, it rose into the air like a dandelion blowing in the wind.
