The Black Iron Glory

The Black Iron Glory
Secret Potion

Chapter 58

Secret Potion

Claude is in a good mood today. He felt calm and relaxed as what he would feel after eating ice cream.

Over the past five days, the animals they sold Pjard produced one thale and three riyases, respectively. That's almost the farmer's monthly salary. Eriksson himself had forgotten about his complete ship and only cared about going into the woods and hills to set traps all over the place.

As Borkal had said, they were practically taking money off the ground. All they have to do is drop some grape meshes on some bushes and come back the next day to collect their prey. There was no need to fire their weapons at all and they could even save on the cost of gunpowder and bullets.

However, Pjard bought too many turkeys and rabbits and needed nothing else. Claude and the others were also sick of hunting as they spent at least two hours every day to find a good place to make this snare. The animals in the area also grow less frequently and will eventually run out.

For some reason, Morssen began to grumble about the matter of Claude's mother buying him new high-heeled boots that he could only use for ten days.

No longer able to hold it in, Claude took out four riyases and slammed them on the table. "Well, these shoes were bought by me. It has nothing to do with Mom. I don't want to hear you lecture him on this matter anymore."

Morssen never imagined that he would be persuaded like that by his son. He was so shocked that he could not find the words to answer. His expression shifted in cycles from anger to amazement, appearing angry and awkward at the same time.

After which, Claude got up and whistled to the school with a cheerful atmosphere.

After a wrestling period in the afternoon, Claude kept his belongings and prepared to leave school.

Borkal pulled him up and said, "Where are you going? Horse riding class ends this week. We only have three days of classes left. Since we paid so much for them, we might as well ride more horses while we still had the chance. "

"I'll do it tomorrow" Claude said, "I'll go south of town later."

"For what?" Borkal wondered, "Didn't Pjard say that he wouldn't buy any more animals?"

"I'll just check it out. Didn't we put 20 groups of snares there yesterday? We'll probably get the victim today. Even if Pjard doesn't want to buy them, we can still bring them back to eat them ourselves. Also, I was thinking of eliminating another noose that caught nothing. One thing if anyone is lucky to get a turkey and a female caught, but it's another thing if they know how to make a snare. If that happens, we won't be able to make any money from this in the future. "

Claude was meticulous enough in his consideration to eliminate the remaining traps. That way, the animals can also breed faster before they are ready for harvest next year. His friends were very impressed with his foresight and attention.

The method to make the snare was too simple and normally, others would not be aware of its existence if no prey was caught. However, if something is finally caught and someone else finally finds it, then will the secret of the noose be announced?

Loss of prey is not a big deal, but the snares are easy to spot when trying to get rid of their prey. The hypothetical person who learned how to make them might just use them without consideration, causing the other hunters in town to find out about that method as well. If that happened, there would definitely be no prey left for them to catch.

"Do you want me to come?" ask Welikro.

"Do you want me to come?" ask Welikro.

Claude shook his head. "no need. I'll take a walk too and it's fine even if we don't get the catch. I went there mainly to deal with the rest of the noose we set there and it won't take long. Just go to the dock after you finish your horse riding class. We haven't helped Uncle Pegg for five days, so I'll go to the dock after I collect the noose and split the catch if we get it. "

Claude returned home first and swung his gun over his shoulder and grabbed his bag before trying to summon a train south of the city. As she stepped out of the house, she saw her mother return with the basket in her hand with Bloweyk jumping behind her actively.

Ack, here's the problem. Bloweyk was happy to see his brother and called out to go rabbit hunting with him. Claude only managed to calm him down after agreeing to some unfair conditions.

Just as Claude was about to run away, his mother called him to stop. She stroked Claude's messy hair and said, "It's time you cut hair. Her hair was so long and messy, but you didn't bother taking care of her in the slightest. Do you want to keep the ponytail like your brother?"

Arbeit's thought that the ponytail he was wearing made him look cool almost caused Claude to vomit. Arbeit is slim and white. The pigtails just made her more like a woman from behind. If he walked the streets in the middle of the night, there was no telling whether a desperate drunk would jump him to feel a feeling or two. It would definitely be a big deal if he really ended up being attacked after being mistaken for a woman.

After complaining about how ponytail-like Arbeit's ugly appearance was, Claude hurriedly shook his head. "I don't want long hair at all. I won't be able to clean it up, no matter how much time I spend on it. I'll cut my hair in a few days when it gets warm. I'll look much better after that. "

Looking at the thale his mother gave him, Claude did not know how to react. What's the problem of giving me one thale all of a sudden? It's not that I'm short of money.

"Don't blame your father. The reason he floated in the morning wasn't because of your shoes. It was because there were some troublesome things that he had to deal with lately. He just used our family as a way out for his pent-up frustration. We are more than happy with spending money on our children as parents, so what is the harm in wasting just a little bit?

"I'm sure you've been spending quite a bit of money lately too, right? Your father bought you a gun and even asked you to buy your own gunpowder and ammunition, but you still use your own money to buy more rabbits to take home. I know that the rabbits you got weren't hunted by you because they didn't have gunshot wounds on them. Claude, you're young, so don't be mad at your father. The reason he wants you to hunt some hares is for you to achieve something. You don't have to buy back at home just to prove something to your father. "

Claude didn't know whether to laugh or cry. His mother truly believed that he bought a rabbit that he carried with him every day. Then again, it was only to be expected, given that the rabbit was not injured in the slightest. No one would believe he was hunting down the rabbits with his gun.

That's why his mother gave him thale. When she slammed the four riyases on the table this morning and left without a word, her mother had mistakenly thought that Claude was showing off even though he didn't have much money.

"No, mother, I really have money" Claude said as he put the thale back in his mother's hands, "I really did. The rabbits were actually hunted by me using the traps I had designed. That's why they're not hurt." You can ask Boa, Eyke and Wero about it. They caught quite a number of rabbits and turkeys with me over the past few days and we sold most of them to Pjard. You can also ask Pjard about it. We got more than the total thale, so that's why I gave Dad the money this morning.

"Also, I don't blame Dad. I knew he was doing it for my own good and realized that he wasn't nagging because of those shoes. However, I believe that no matter how bad things are going on by his side, he should not bring his negativity back to the family. It was just a normal thing to be bad from time to time, and he should not vent his frustration on his family members just because of that. Home is a safe place for all of us to dock. This is our soul paradise where we should be able to enjoy a peaceful rest.

"That's why it's inappropriate for Dad to disturb our peace because of his frustration. He is the leader of the family. What good is the family there if even he cannot bring us happiness and happiness? Didn't you see how Little Blowk and Anna were so frightened this morning that they didn't dare to speak at all? That's why I slammed the money on the table angrily. I don't want him to use the excuse of some stupid shoe to keep us all excited It's exhausting to live like that!

"Alright, Mother, save the money. I really have enough for myself, so don't worry about me. I'm an adult now and I know not to bring trouble back to the family. Bring Anna a new shirt or something. Her school uniform was hand-down from me changed to fit her size and was yellowed due to age. She's a girl, so we can't wear those old hands down forever, right? I have to go now. Till later. "

Just at that moment, he managed to see the coachman who drove him south of the city two days ago. The coachman was on his way back to the southern farm of the city from delivery and Claude boarded the train and had the coachman send him to the southern suburbs.

His mother looked at the silver coin in his palm as Claude boarded the carriage. He turned around and opened the kitchen door, only to see Morssen standing behind him emotionlessly.

"Have you heard what your son said?" Mrs Ferd chided, "Are you still going to lecture her tonight?"

Morssen smiled bitterly as he searched his pipe. When he tried to turn it on, he shook his head. "not anymore. He makes more sense than I do and I don't know who's doing the talk right now. I'll ask Pjard later about whether our son actually sold him a lot of rabbits and turkeys. I actually made a huge loss eating at that old tavern earlier. Pjard sold one roasted turkey for three riyases and five sunars. I wonder what our son's price is for one …

Meanwhile, Claude is unaware of eavesdropping on Morssen and instead brags to the coachman, Regan.

Regan is a farmer and works at Poplar Ridge Farmstead. Apart from the usual farming work, he was also responsible for transporting the crops to the merchants in the city so that they would arrive in a fresh state. He made several such trips every day and Claude had brought his carriage back to the city over the past few days, only paying the price of a rabbit.

"Why are you alone today?" ask Regan.

"The others are busy, and neither will we come in the future. We've used our secret potion. I'll just check if any fainting animals are depleting our potion. If there is, I'll make sure to give you one. "

Regan recorded a large number of hares and turkeys that Claude and the others had captured in recent days. How could they catch these animals without harming them? Curious, Regan asks how that could be achieved.

Claude claims that he read about a certain secret formula in a book about drugs and tried it during his hunt. He said that he dipped wheat and beans into the secret mixture before drying it and spreading it on the grass. When the prey eats the bait, they will faint from numbness and be unable to move for the next twelve hours. That was the reason he explained the large number of victims that were leaving.

Back then, Borkal followed his actions convincingly. He praised formula milk for being so amazing that animals that consume food soaked in it can recover to full health. However, since the ingredients for those things were too expensive, they could only make a little potion after spending three thales. Whether they will be able to break even by selling their catch is still unknown.

Getting to know Eriksson and Borkal for being the sons of two famous wealthy men in town, Regan easily believes Claude's lies. He just sighed and thought that if he had three thales, he would save it to take a wife instead of wasting it on mysterious and expensive potions just for the sake of catching rabbits and turkeys.
