Chapter 8
Academic and Physical Flow
"I don't know why you think you have the right to decide that I shouldn't attend a horse riding class" Claude said as he gave Arbeit a cold look of dissatisfaction, "Compared to the few fools who had to spend more than five thales on horse riding lessons and still could not ride it properly, I was already able to ride horses well, I was already able to ride horses well, much better than you, before paying a penny. I think you're just jealous because I have a knack for riding. You don't want me to keep improving my horse riding to satisfy your little ego, huh? "
"You .. Who are you calling stupid! I ... I don't envy you!" arbeit exclaimed as he jumped with a flushed face. Claude's words were similar to a knife that had cut through his most sensitive insecurities.
Claude had already immigrated for half a year and at times, he felt that the world he was in was really strange. There were many things similar to his previous world, such as there were seven days of the week and that people would rest on Sundays to pray in their respective places of worship. The Kingdom of Aueras also required all its subjects to have a primary education and build national schools for that purpose.
But there are also much different. For example, there are two moons in the sky, and the belief system in this world is more polytheistic than monotheistic. Each of the gods also has a role. A peasant would worship the earth goddess for a better harvest, while sailors would worship the sea god who ruled the weather and storms of the sea. Warriors naturally worship the god of war and those who fight for love and health worship the silver goddess and the sun god who brings light to all living beings.
The most troublesome part of Claude was the strange educational syllabus the kingdom had. It was completely different from the previous world. Royal subjects could choose between two schools of education, however, it was not a choice between a school of science or a liberal arts school. Instead, both systems are academic and physical streams. The academic stream focuses on teaching students six subjects of language, history, arithmetic, theology, geography, and nature.
Claude found the language classes very different from the classes in his previous life. The lingua franca in Aueras is Hebrai, a language rooted in the ancient language of Hez. It was used mostly in the eastern part of Freia. Nations such as the kingdom's arch-rival Nasri and Berkeley were annihilated and annexed using that language.
The language classes taught in elementary school are simple. One must learn to recognize words, be able to read them and compose a smooth essay. The Hebraic language does not use letters. Instead, it uses a rhombus-shaped character. One of the unique qualities of those characters is that there is a large symbol at the top of each character and a small one at the bottom. The words neatly written in that language would look like little ants standing tall. In some ways, the Hebrew script resembles a familiar logogram with Claude from his previous life. There are more than six thousand characters recorded in the dictionary formed from different combinations of symbols and their meanings visible from the symbols used.
In high school, language classes use a combined syllabus. In addition to having to learn words that are used less frequently, the, students should also learn to read and write specific terms used in business and administration as well as two other languages commonly used throughout the continent, Jimil, which is often used in the north. , and Leishart is popular in the central part of the continent. Both languages also branch from ancient Hez and can be considered as the sister language of Hebrai.
History is a subject given great focus in schools, but our transmigrators feel that it is primarily used for propaganda and brainwashing. That was because the history taught in the classroom was not the general history of the continent of Freia, but the impressive achievements of the founding of the kingdom of Aueras and the achievements of each of its kings. The exploits of Stelllin IX took up half of what was taught in the classroom. Every time during the test, the main focus would be given to the war that led to the restoration of the kingdom, the Tricolor Conflict, just like what tactics the king used to defeat his enemies during the war and so on, which upset Claude.
Arithmetic classes in primary school concern basic addition and subtraction while basic multiplication is taught in secondary school. Geometry or substitution is not taught in schools at all. What Claude doesn't understand is why they also include audits and estimations in the syllabus.
Theological classes teach about myths about various gods. It should be noted that various gods are worshipped and prayed for in different ways. There are also various taboos for believers of different gods and students are expected to focus on it.
Contrary to what the name might suggest, geography is actually a primer in business planning. Apart from describing some basic information about the islands around the continent that have what kind of resources can be mined, the, it focuses more on the local culture of people across the continent and provides a great focus on the specialties sold in those places as well as the price differences between products across different areas.
Natural studies resemble basic combined sciences. Claude thought that it was basically an irresponsible issue that was raised by the authorities by combining biology with general knowledge. Most of the materials cover a wide range of qualities of plants, animals, and insects. It could be that the royal scholars studied that aspect most intently. He recalls reading about the conclusion of which part of the goat's fur is best suited for scarves.
Typically, high school graduates of the academic stream can easily find jobs in various departments and earn enough money to feed their families. Claude's older brother, Arbeit, was recommended to be the personal secretary of the lower house member, Sir Fux, due to his first-place results.
Physical flow on the other hand is more focused on training the physical abilities of the students. Among them include marathon training, swordsmanship, boxing, wrestling, shooting and sticks. During the second year of high school, students will be taught to ride horses and in the third year, they will be given firearms training. Sometimes Claude felt that he was in an army recruiting training camp rather than in school.
Although students are divided based on their academic flow, they are not sent to separate classes. They are only expected to focus on a different subject. Each student, regardless of the flow designation, takes the same subjects. Students who follow the academic stream must follow the physical flow lessons and so on.
Former body owner Claude is assigned to the physical stream because his grades are so poorly fixed. Fortunately, he does have a good physical ability to make up for it and is considered one of the best in his school. As for his older brother Arbeit, although he was the first graduate of the academic school, his grades in physical flow subjects were very poor and were among the lowest in school.
Take the example of a riding class. A second-year high school student should be able to more or less ride a horse properly after one month of class. After a month of lessons during the third year, the students can be considered proficient enough to ride any horse they can get.
However, the star of the academic stream, Arbeit, is, he had spent two silver thales on private horseback riding lessons that lasted a total of two months during his second and third years in high school and was still unable to ride horses stably. From time to time, he puts on shows the most entertaining way to fall off a horse, making boring horseback riding classes one of the most entertaining times for other students in his class. Some people even start betting rings to see how long he can stay seated on a horse.
The only silver line was that the horse he used was soft and they trained on soft, grassy ground with the instructor watching everything. Arbeit was not seriously injured after countless falls, much to Claude's disappointment. However, it did cause Arbeit to develop a minor trauma for the horse and Morssen gave up as his eldest son learned how to ride the horse.
"Shut up, Claude!" Morssen snapped, "You are a student of the physical stream and Arbeit is a student of the academic stream. Do not compare your strengths to your brother's weaknesses. Only when you can get first place in the entire school as he can, you are allowed to lecture your brother . "
Claude pouting. He didn't want to get first place. When the school collects model essays written by successive academic stream students who got first place and shares them for reference by other students, Arbeit essays are included. It was even printed at full value. Claude almost vomited blood when he read it.
It was an essay praising Stellin IX in which all sorts of flamboyant forms of praise and flowers were used. The essay itself is hollow and pointless, doing so much except kissing the buttocks in the most recent way. Only a truly shameless person could make such an essay and it was no wonder the school instructors had no choice but to provide full marks. After all, any correction could be interpreted as dissatisfaction towards Stellin IX and no instructor worth his salt daring to do the taboo offending the Stellin royal family.
Morssen took out a gold-coated bag of deer skin money, and took out a shiny silver thorn from it and placed it on the table. "Claude, I'll give you what you deserve. As a father, I will not side with my children more than others, nor will I treat any of you. Since your brother spends one silver thale each semester riding a lesson horse, it will be no different for you. As Little Blowk grew, he would also receive the same treatment. "
Claude looked at the silver thale on the table and said, "But Dad, I need a little money to buy some books. I heard Boa mention that our town just got a new batch lately and I wanted to see it."
Arbeit glared at the pale silver on the table as if he was trying to melt it with the flames of fury coming out of his eyes. When he heard what Claude said, he exploded. "You? Buying books? Aren't you just trying to trick Dad for money to mess around with what you call friends ?! There are over a hundred books in the study room and you have more than enough to read!"
Claude smiled. "I'm really disappointed in you, brother. Even though Dad gave you permission to use the study room, you didn't use it properly. I've read all the books once over the past half a year and even made quite a few notes. If you don't believe me, you can check the bookmarks and dog ears I made on the page. "
"You ?! Have you read all the books?" morssen said in disbelief.
"Yes, Dad," Claude said with a nod, "I even sorted the books by category. The way you set it up was too random back then."
"alright. It's great that you like to read," Morssen said cheerfully as he took out a small silver coin, "One riyas is enough, right? Ah, whatever. I'll give you two riyases for the book."
"Yes, Pastor," Claude said as he nodded, "I even sorted books by category. The way you set it up was too random back then."
"alright. It's great that you like to read," Morssen said cheerfully as he took out a small silver coin, "One riyas is enough, right? Ah, whatever. I'll give you two riyases for the book."
Claude nodded with a smile and took out two small silver coins. "Thank you, Dad. I'm done with breakfast, so I'm going to school now."
He then went upstairs to pick up his bag from the attic.
Angelina wiped her mouth with a linen cloth on the table and stood up. "I'm done, too, so I'm leaving now."
He then left with a deer skin bag next to him.
"Dad .." Arbeit looked at Morssen.
The middle-aged man waved casually. "Arbeit, you are a little too hard on your brothers. Actually, I don't mind Claude asking me to spend any money at all. All I'm worried about is that he lied to me for that reason. Whether he bought a book can be easily verified. We'll just see if he brings back. "
