Car sirens continue to sound indicating the driver asked to be given a way to get to the destination immediately. The hospital we will go to is far away because the car needs to ring the siren to go faster.
My heart and mind are still not calm. I just imagined the figure of the father who drove me to school this morning. With a smile, my father waved his hand. Gave me confidence that I would be fine without him.
My hands are still hugging the limp body of my mother. I occasionally rubbed my mother's shoulders to calm her mind. I look at the car glass occasionally to see the state of the highway which was a little crowded at that time.
There's a rain stub that's wetting the windshield of the car. But the car kept going fast.
After 25 minutes passed the siren that had sounded so loud suddenly stopped. We arrived at the hospital in question. There was someone who opened the door, yes of course that person was the policeman who came to our house earlier. Mother did not dare to get out of her seat. So did I. Doubt grips my feelings. No. We have to go down and make sure of it.
"Let's take you to the morgue"
Deg instantaneously my heart felt like it wanted to be dislodged from its place. The morgue? Is it true my father was there?
My mom and I got out of the car. Brave to step into such a large hospital. Step by step it was so heavy. My mother and I followed the direction indicated by the police officer and by a doctor.
Now we're right in front of the door painted green with the words * mortuary*. And the door was opened by a guard in green clothes and wearing a white mask.
"Please come in." The guard's words led us to a corpse that was already covered in white cloth.
I ventured to open the cloth. I'll make sure it's not even Dad.
"Yahhhhh…."
Mother's crying broke. Mom hugged Dad and shook his body stiffened. That corpse is dad. With a fresh blood-soaked head. Almost all the blood covered my face.
I dare not look at him for too long. I paused my steps toward the corpse. Walking back away from Mother who was still sobbing hugged her already stiff body and wrapped in all-white cloth.
"Patient, son. All this is destiny. Your father was a hit-and-run victim. We're still after the culprit."
Degs…
My father was a hit-and-run victim?
My legs instantly went limp. I who will fall to the floor immediately helped by the police officer who was behind earlier. I was led to a chair lined up next to Dad's mortuary door.
My crying this time I can't take it anymore. How did he escape after taking my father's life?
If I met him, I would never forgive him.
Mom's out of the morgue. Running around hugging my limp leg sitting in the chair.
"Del, your father has really left us.hiks hyks….!" The mother coconut that had been staring at me was now limp in my lap. While banging on the chair I sat on my mother continued to cry.
No. gabe. I have to be strong. I must calm Mother's heart. I have to be a tough Adelia like Dad said last time.
"Mom, this is fate. We have to really accept all of this. Adelia knows it's hard for us but this is all happening, ma'am." The word that was actually heavy for me to say finally made mom calm down a little. I lifted my mother up and we sat next to her.
"Mom, we have to be strong. I definitely don't want you to be saddened to see us crying non-stop here. Dad must have been much more sick if we saw we did not sincerely see the departure of Dad. Adelia please Mother must also be strong. Adelia is also sad, ma'am." Once again I have to try as hard as possible to face all these harsh realities.
"What about your future Del, dad's gone and mom's not a career woman. All this time we've been relying on a father."
"Mom, don't think about things that haven't happened. The sustenance is already there that governs our stay trying to get it. All of this must have been a silver lining, ma'am. So my mother cried. Adelia will also try to be strong so that you can leave quietly." I wiped the tears that were still dripping on my mother's cheeks. Heavy or not we must not constantly cry over the departure of Dad.
"Our son will take care of your father's body. It will be in the same ambulance. Can we take a bath for us to deliver the body to the house?" A doctor approached and discussed the matter of Dad's body.
"Well then please wait in the room that is over there." The doctor showed us a room brighter than ours now.
Finally, Mom and I walked into the room the doctor was referring to. We had not sat down yet a policeman who came to our house was also approaching.
"Mom, would you like to join the ambulance or would we drive you home?"
"No, sir, we'll take the ambulance. We've been a real hassle. Thank you all sir." My mother and I bowed half-heartedly to the police who had helped us.
"That's our job. We will do our best to find the perpetrator who hit Mr. Winata."
"Thank you again, sir"
"Well, then excuse me. May Mr. Winata go quietly." The policeman turned his back and stepped out of the hospital.
"Mom, that's so bad for the guy who hit Dad. Will Adelia be able to forgive her mistake if Adelia ever meets her."
"Not to ever forgive the man who has taken away our part."
"Good Mom."
.
.
"With Mr Winata's patient's family?" Suddenly, a nurse rebuked me from behind.
"Yes my son sus."
"The body has been bathed and forgiven. Now heading for the ambulance in front of the ER." Obviously the sister.
"Thank you sus. We'll be here soon."
"Neither."
My mother and I walked out of the hospital and looked for an ambulance that we were going to take.
Mother had shed tears again to see Father who was wrapped in a shroud. I patted mom's back. Shaking your head means no more crying. I see what I mean, we got in that ambulance and headed home.
I forgot to tell Grandma and Grandpa. Dad still has complete parents. Grandpa and Grandma lived in a city that was a long way away from us. I just sent a WhatsApp message to Dirga's uncle. The only father who lives with his grandmother and grandfather. I hope they are not too surprised by all of this.
The siren ambulance has sounded indicating the car will soon go.
'Father. Adelia promised to look after Mom'
I stared at the jade wrapped in white cloth in front of me. I held it as hard as I could so I wouldn't shed a tear back.
