8. Dad's Funeral

The siren has stopped ringing. Only a flickering red blue light remained. The car stopped running. The door began to open slowly.

Father's body was handed down by two men with tall and well-built bodies. After Dad got out of the car me and mom also got off. We were greeted by grieving neighbors as well. Their crying sounds obvious. But I don't want to shed any more tears. I don't want to see eyes that feel too sorry for me and my mom. I'll try as hard as I can.

Dad's body was brought into the house. Assisted by RT and some residents. I sat down near Dad. While the mother went inside to show some things that must be prepared for the funeral.

"Patience to Adel." There was a middle-aged mother hugging me from behind. Yes, she is Miss Sri. Wife of Mr. RT.

"Yes Ma'am, in shea Allah. Thank you for coming and helping us."

"We should have helped each other. I want to go back and help ya."

"Yes, Mom."

The night is getting late. My house is still visited by many people who worship. I was waiting for my grandparents too. Because this funeral won't happen before they come. Grandpa and Grandma's house is far away. About 3 hours drive if not jammed.

I felt the vibration of my phone. I didn't even think about the incoming message because the guests took turns to give condolences.

The time has shown at 1:00 am. It's almost morning. Is it possible that you'll be buried tonight?

"My son, my God, why did you go first, son. You died so bad. Last afternoon we just talked for a while but you've been gone forever hiks….!" It was my grandmother's new voice. After being satisfied hugging Grandma's father looked at me then hugged me so tightly.

"Patience is dear you must be strong through all this."

"Yes grandma. Grandma also had to take Dad off."

We hugged each other. I saw the grandfather who couldn't hold back his tears either.

"The funeral is ready, ma'am." Mr. RT told me that I was ready for the funeral.

Grandma just cried hearing it. Uncle Dirga and Grandpa rushed to help the people carrying the body of the father. Mom just sat down next to Grandma.

I followed Father's corpse slowly out of the house. Riding a box car with the people. These tears can't be held back from my father's departure forever. I waved my hand at the hearse that slowly moved away.

Only a few mothers stayed here to accompany us. We didn't go to the cemetery because we were afraid to get hysterical there.

Madam Sri gave me 3 cups of warm tea.

"It's love to your grandmother's same mother so that the stomach is not too empty. Don't forget to drink either." Said Ms Sri.

"Thank you, Mom."

The light of the sun came into my window. I fell asleep after the dawn prayer. There will be a lot of weird stuff this morning. No mother's voice built me up. And there's no kiss I do every morning to my dad.

I'm going down my stairs. One by one I stepped on my feet without a sound.

"You must not be selfish. Think about Adelia's future as well. You don't want to eat what Adelia does?"

A bluff sounded in my ear. It was like my grandmother's voice. Justright. Grandma was advising Mom. But it didn't seem like an advice, the meeting was scolding my mother.

Ke ran and hugged the body of the mother who was facing Grandma.

"Adel here sits near Grandma." Grandma waved her hand inviting me to sit on the sofa.

"What's the matter, Grandma?" Ask me

"Adel after graduating from school what are Adel's ideals?"

Grandma's question confused me. Should I rethink what my ideals were after Dad's departure.

"Either Nek Adel has not thought about Adel's problem ahead."

"Adel went with Grandma to the city to live with Dirga's grandfather and uncle, right?"

"Mother's coming with Nek?"

But Grandma shook her head signifying a word she would not say.

"Whose mother is the same? Dad's gone for good, and I'm going to leave mom? Maybe not Grandma. Adelia will stay with mom."

I kicked my leg indicating I was upset by the decision Grandma was going to make. I ran up the stairs and went into the room and locked the door. Grandma chased me to the front of my bedroom. And keep knocking on my bedroom door. How could I leave my mother. Even dad just got buried why grandma is so selfish. I'm no longer a child to be arranged. I can decide my own problems.

'dad why Adelia didn't sincerely leave'

"Adelia can I come in, son?" My mother's voice came from outside my room.

I opened the door to the room that I had locked so Grandma couldn't get in.

We sat next to each other on the bed. Mom stroked my hair. Then hugged me.

"I'm sorry for a mother who's just a housewife. I can't work, and I've never worked at all. I'm worried about your future. Come with Grandma to town."

I took off with my mother's embrace. I stood up and walked towards the window.

"Mom, though, whatever there's no reason for me to leave mom alone."

"Mom's gonna sell this house, son. Your father left behind a huge debt. There is no way out but to sell this house. I don't even have any savings. The condolence money is just enough for your father Yasinan. I can't do anything else but obey your grandmother's decision. Hiks hyks…"

"What's? How could you leave behind so much debt? Our finances have not been all right. Why did you leave a debt?"

"First when your mother miscarried your sister, it cost a lot for all that. Not to mention the car that your father uses is also not paid off and the seller was here to collect the deficiency of the car installment. He doesn't want to know."

"Sorry Adel ya Bu even more troublesome mother. Adel will find a way out, ma'am. Don't decide big things when you're sad or angry. It won't make us any better. Let Adelia talk to Grandma again. Adel will accompany mom. Adel's not going to go with Grandma to town." I hugged my mother tightly. We cried together in the room.
