Demon Laws
Chapter 19: The Different Paths

Outside the castle's dungeon, Dewey sees Joline, the first female knight he recruits. Since arriving at this castle, Joline took the initiative to look after the witch.

Joline did this because after all the witch was once her friend. Despite devoting herself to Dewey, she must remember an old friendship. Although these witches joined in because of being attracted by her beauty, and they only worked together for a few days. Although Joline did not dare to oppose Dewey by freeing the witch, she could at least take care of her former friend as much as possible to repay a little favor.

At least, after arriving here last night, this witch was able to eat with fullness due to Joline's care. He still does not allow her to sleep or meditate. The two bodyguards of Joline, the bull warrior and archer, keep the witch in rotation so that she does not have a chance to recover magic power.

When arriving at the dungeon, Dewey was rather unusual with the damp and smelly aroma here.

Joline who had been wearing knight clothes, made Dewey's eyes sparkle. This long-legged girl is charming and seductive. But he made some changes. Cut her hair a little shorter, remember the ribbon on her forehead, and trim her eyebrows. Reduces softness and adds masculinity.

Especially after wearing knight clothes, he looked even more serious. The short skirt was no longer worn, her two beautiful plump legs were also not exposed anymore. But with a thin sword, plus a knight chest protector on his upper body, he became a knight style.

“Respecting master.” Joline quickly approaches when she sees Dewey break into the dungeon. “You...”.

“I came to see my captive.” Dewey's manner was extremely cold, his mood was rather bad. He saw Joline at a glance. “Have you stayed here all night?”

Joline showed a difficult expression. “Master, however the child inside is my friend first. I want...”

“Please for him?” Dewey. “No need. I don't think about complicating it. I'll release him immediately if he answers some questions from me.”

Finished speaking, Dewey passed Joline and said, “I want to speak four eyes to her. You all wait outside, do not enter carelessly.”

The room in which the witch was locked was the largest room in the castle's dungeon. By the time Dewey entered, the witch's face was already pale and her two eyes could barely be opened.

The magician's spiritual power was indeed strong, but he had exhausted a lot of spiritual power and magic when fighting with the people in the brewery. After that, he was captured and had no chance to meditate and recover spiritual strength, should not sleep for the past two days anyway. He can't hold on anymore.

Then he was locked up in this dungeon. Every time his eyes closed, he was instantly doused with cold water.  Although Joline treated him more politely, Joline's two subordinates were not.

The bull warrior and archer already disliked this witch while still on the adventurer team. These witches joined in because they were attracted by Joline's beauty, so they were often looked down upon by bull warriors and archers. Their relationship was always not good.

The witch felt herself almost crushed when she saw this little noble go into the dungeon. He was not chained, because magicians who lost magic power were indeed weaker than ordinary people. It's just that the dungeon is dark and damp. He was doused for some reason how many buckets of water. His lips were pale from the cold. When Dewey entered, the witch sat in a position hugging her knees on a stone mattress. The bull soldier shouted, “Hey, don't close your eyes! Otherwise I'll have to water you again! I went back and forth somehow all night just to get some water!”

As soon as he spoke, he turned his head and saw Dewey enter, then shut his mouth. Dewey coded him to come out by shaking his hand, then walked in front of the witch. “How is it, Dear Witch Master? Is everything okay?”

Ok? Do I look ‘baik’? The witch muttered in her heart. His face showed a pleading expression. “Master, why should a noble like you make things difficult for me like this? If it were spread that you the eldest son of the Earl of Rollin's family treated a witch this bad, your family would find it difficult to befriend a witch.”

Still want to threaten me?

Dewey pursed his lips. “Oh, really? In that case, what would be the consequences if it were spread that a level one mage mastered instant techniques?”

The witch's face paled, fear appearing in her eyes.

The consequences?

The consequences are very simple. If other witches knew this information, then he would fall prey to the witches throughout the plains. Any magician wanted to learn an instant technique like this. When a small-level mage mastered this ability, did the consequences still need to be asked?

Like an unprotected three-year-old, but it had hundreds of millions of gold coins.

“Say.” Dewey smiled. “Actually I know that your instant technique is not a real instant technique. You must have done it with an opportunistic substitute method, right? I'm not a witch, there's nothing to lose to you if you tell me. I just want to satisfy my curiosity.”

The witch looked down, worried.

“What else should be in doubt?” Dewey sighed. “You are only a level one magician. Although magicians were a rare and respected profession in this world, it was only limited to mid-level and upper level magicians. Even if I kill or keep you here forever, no one will care about a low-level magician like you. Even the magic society would not offend a great noble for the sake of a low-level mage, right?”

“You...” The witch's gaze finally wavered. His mental defenses began to collapse. He bit his lips. “If I tell you, you should swear it won't spread. Because it's related to my witch's identity.”

“Can, fully can.” Dewey immediately raised his hand and swore, “I, Dewey Rollin, swear if I will remember everything you told me inwardly, will not tell anyone else. Otherwise let the Goddess of Light punish me.”

“...” The witch's coat looks complicated. Fear flashed in his eyes, then his lips moved. “I... I'm actually just a magician's student.”

“What?” Dewey. “What does it mean?”

“I...” Witches need a lot of effort to say it. “I told you that I was actually just a witch student. My real magic power is only the level of a magician disciple. My qualifications as a first level mage were obtained by way of deception.”

“Confuse?” Dewey was tempted.

Tricking a witch's qualifications?

As Dewey knew, the trials of the magic society on the mainland were not easy to cheat. Isn't it funny if a qualification magician can be tricked so easily?

“I started learning magic since childhood. My teacher is a low-level magician. He thought I had a magical talent so accepted me as a disciple. I obtained the qualifications from the magic society at the age of thirteen. It's not difficult.” The witch's tone was heard complaining. “True magicians on the mainland there are only hundreds. Yet the person who had the qualifications of becoming a magician disciple there were thousands. Unfortunately, the road to becoming a witch is really too difficult. Most of the magician disciples trying forever were unable to pass the level one examination. Can only stop at the level of a magician disciple. And I am one of these poor people.”

“Each witch will receive some disciples. But witches themselves also know that not all of their students can be witches. And there was a possibility of not being able to produce a magician disciple. But every witch on the mainland still received many disciples. Since witches were so respected and feared, how could they possibly lack followers? So every witch would bring along many magic disciples. Most of these disciples had dreams towards magic. But the result is that only a few people can realize their dreams. Worse, there were many witches who clearly knew that these disciples had no possibility of becoming witches, but did not tell them. Because magicians need obedient students, they need people to help them do magic experiments, to be their assistants, even as servants. And a servant like this doesn't need to be paid a single gold coin.

I experienced. The teacher I met at the age of thirteen told me that I had talent, then took me away from home. He said he would lead me to be a great wizard. I took my dreams with him, unfortunately, then I discovered that this was an impossible dream. My teacher has dozens of students, each passing the magician disciple exam. The teacher only used us as servants and assistants for free.

He's gonna lie to us. He clearly knew that many of his disciples could not possibly be witches. But he didn't say it!

I became a magician disciple for ten years, and finally discovered that I had no talent in this field. My magic power is indeed stronger than ordinary people since childhood, and it can also sense a bit of natural power. But only that. Limited talent.

Then, by force, I studied pharmacy.”

Pharmaceutical science?

Dewey's eyes sparkled.

The experience of this child is very similar to his.

Merely, he was unable to even pass the lowest level magician disciple examination. Dewey smiled wryly in his heart.

In fact, Dewey himself also had no idea that the situation was not what he thought it was.

Actually the disciples recruited by most witches are not as talented as Dewey. But Dewey needs followers. Despite having money, witches were unable to recruit servants like ordinary nobles. It will say what it is like!

As a holy and mysterious witch, her servant must certainly have the status of a witch disciple. Wouldn't it be degrading to use ordinary people?

But people who have magic talent are very few. Hence for the sake of having magician disciples, most magicians even recruited disciples with lowered standards. People who have no talent, or are only slightly stronger than ordinary people, will be accepted by witches with the temptation ‘guiding you to be a witch’.

After that, the people who have no talent to become magicians will work for the teacher forever.

The condition caused the examination of the magician disciples on the mainland to be extremely chaotic. Standards are different.

Merely, the exam that Dewey took in the last imperial capital followed the true strict standards. Since the Clark Witch did not dare to deceive the second figure in the imperial military, the eldest son of the head of the Rollin family.

Because of Dewey's identity, Witch Clark did not dare to make it as cheap labor.

When Dewey was an ordinary person, Witch Clark had already received Dewey when he saw the spiritual power he had.

Even if Dewey had no magic talent, Clark would have accepted him as a student. Because having a disciple with great magic power will make it easier to do magic testing.

In fact, the majority of the magicians on the mainland did this. Had Dewey not been the Earl's eldest son, perhaps he would have been deceived as well, then become a cheap labor of witches with dreams of becoming a witch. Even spending his entire life and delaying his own future.

“Because, I know a fact. Actually my teacher already knew that I couldn't possibly be a witch.” The voice of the prisoner sounded bitter. “Even when he took me from home back then. Only, he felt that my magic power was good and thought that having a free maid like me would make it easier to do magic testing later on. There are many students of the same teacher as me. There are those whose magic power is very strong, there are those who feel good power. But all have a major defect. As a result cheated with sweet dreams, stay by the teacher's side and waste their time.”

“Then?” Dewey sighed.

“As I said earlier. At first I was very angry after knowing this fact. Then I decided to change my fate. I could not learn real magic, so decided to research pharmaceutical science.” The witch sighed. “Because pharmaceutical science is also recognized a kind of magic by the magic society. Although most people find it funny with this view. Although most people feel that the witch medicine does not include the real witch.”

“Then?” Dewey felt his heart pounding fast.

Don't-don't this kid….

He has no magic talent like him. She is now a witch. Besides, she actually used magic when in the tavern.

If he, someone who had no talent, finally managed to learn magic in some way or another. If he could say the way he used it, maybe he could too!

If you find a way to learn magic, then….

Wouldn't he be able to learn the star magic created and the astrology left behind by Semel in the secret room of the castle?

“Is it possible to master pharmaceutical science to become a witch?” Dewey stared at this prisoner. “But as far as I know, the magic society qualification exam and the magic witch exam are different from other magicians.”

On the mainland, the real magician was divided into ten levels. Every time you pass a level, the difficulty level will increase. So a witch with a higher level is certainly stronger.

But the examination of a medicinal witch, also called a kind of magician, was much easier.

Even to the point of making people take it lightly.

The medicinal magician exam had no level.

Only one level.

If you pass the test, then you are a medicinal witch. Then the magic society will give me a badge. This badge symbolizes the official recognition that you are a witch.

Most people do not recognize this confession.

Even the badges that the magic society gave off had their differences.

The badge for the medicinal magician was a copper circle and was very simple. In addition, there is no anti-counterfeiting magic.

Perhaps the magic society itself also knew that no one would be interested in tanning this despised profession.

The social status of medicinal witches, commonly known as poison witches, was even inferior to ordinary healers.

While the real magician badge, which was level one though, was made of silver. The level one mage badge was made of silver!

Dewey would not forget if he obtained the real silver badge from this witch while fighting in the tavern that day.

In other words, he had not passed the medicinal magician examination, but the real witch examination.

How'd he do it?

Learning magic is like a dream that has been destroyed. Now hope begins to grow in Dewey's heart.

“My talent is to have great magic power, spiritual power is also stronger than ordinary people. If ordinary people, at most have strong energy, not easily tired, and others. But I lack the strength to feel. Meditating as hard as I can, I can't feel the waves of the forces of nature.” The prisoner slowly said, “Then after researching pharmaceutical science for ten years, I suddenly had a question. What exactly is the power of nature? The teacher told me it was everything. Everything in this world. Wind, fire, water, that little whatever it is. But that statement is still too gray. A thought then came to my mind. If I understand what ‘natural forces’ is, maybe I still have hope.”

Dewey listened in silence, at the same time also contemplating this man's words.

“For example, fire magic. Witches could borrow fire elements in the world through spells, then create fire with magic. That's the simplest example.” Dewey saw Dewey at a glance. “You understand what I said?”

“Please continue, I understand.” Dewey smiled wryly. “I've seen some books about pharmaceutical science.”

“Good.” The witch further said, “In pharmaceutical science, there are dozens of ways to reach the same base as fire magic. Produce fire. For example, the most basic, can be self-immolating with a powder made from fire phosphorus. Then I thought, fire phosphorus can consume fire. The magic of fire magic mages can also produce fire. Lest the fire phosphorus contain magic elements in the power of nature? Or, there is a fire magic element in the fire phosphorus?”

Dewey seemed to think of something but still could not catch it in an instant.

Then the witch heard him say, “I then found again an elusive thing. All magic techniques, I emphasize them all. Although the power of spells there are small and large. Take fire magic as an example. The easiest fireball technique, and ‘the burning of the deflated city’ can destroy heaven and earth. Although his strength was many times worse, it was basically the same. Everything burns with fire. But strange things happen. Things that can be done by various magicians can be done also by medicinal magicians. For example, fire magic. Although the medicinal witch could not produce the power of ‘burn the city’ as strong as that, the principle of making fire is the same. Other examples are wind magic, water magic, and others. All magic can be done with pharmaceutical science. Although it can only do the simplest basic principles, the point can be done. Why so? Perhaps, I thought that perhaps that precious pharmaceutical science raw material actually contains ‘’ magic elements of various magic. Isn't that right?”

This prisoner showed an arrogant expression. “I can't extract magic elements in nature by meditating, then I take it by using magic.”
