Demon Laws
Chapter 31: Night On A Remote Island

When the sun was about to set, Dewey's search finally came to fruition.

He found a small puddle in the forest on the west side of the island. This may be a puddle of water left over from the rainy season. There were no ferocious beasts on the island, where the puddles were also relatively luminous. Dewey carefully inspected around this puddle, and found no trace of any savage beast activity.

After tasting and making sure that the water is fresh, Dewey feels calm. The two people who were thirsty all day threw themselves at the edge of the puddle and drank greedily without thinking about the image. Cold water with a hint of a strange scent entered the fiery throat. Dewey could not help but sigh in relief. When the coldness slid down his throat, he shivered comfortably.

After drinking water, Dewey took off his sheepskin boots, then washed them in a puddle.

“A-what are you doing?” Vivian blinked her eyes at Dewey's actions.

“Wash the shoes,” Dewey said without stopping the movement of his grandson. “Then fill water.”

“Me-filling water? With se-shoes?” Vivian showed a strange expression.

“Of course.” Dewey sneered. “Besides shoes, can you find other tools to fill water? Do you have a bottle or a jar? If not, you can only wear shoes. My shoes are made of sheepskin, waterproof.” Dewey saw the stupid girl at a glance. “Do not frown. This is our only way. I don't know how long we'll stay in this godforsaken place. We can't stay here to keep this puddle of water, have to go to the coast. If you feel my shoes smell too much, you can fill the water with your own shoes.”

Vivian was still stunned so Dewey urged her. “Quick. Unless you want to drink water in my shoes tomorrow.”

The last sentence triggered poor little Vivian. He immediately took off his shoes.

Witch girl shoes are also made of better leather than Dewey sheepskin boots. After opening the shoes, the witch girl looked confused. The white leg t-shirt on his leg was stained with blood. His legs were abrasive after walking for half a day.

This witch girl immediately imitated Dewey, squatting on the edge of a puddle and washing shoes. He washed it so many times that Dewey was a bit impatient. “Two times is enough, why do you wash many times?”

“Se-dirty shoes,” he said stammered.

Dewey smiled at this naive foolish girl. “Hey, look. This pool of water is not big, the water is just this. If you wash your shoes clean, the water becomes dirty. And finally this water is what you drink.”

“...” Vivian was stunned then she pouted, sadly filling the two boots with water before standing up. “Ta-ta-but a-do we really ha-have to drink this?”

“When you are thirsty tomorrow, the water is ten times dirtier than this too, you will drink it without hesitation,” Dewey said flatly. “Already, we are back now.”

Dewey still carried the long stick to open the road ahead. Walking for a while, he discovered that the magical girl behind him was lagging further and further. Dewey stopped his steps then looked at him with furrowed brows. “More you're fast, it's already night. If the sun goes down completely, this place will turn dark. We are increasingly difficult to walk because it is difficult to recognize the direction in the forest at night.”

Vivian nodded quickly then accelerated her pace. But walking limping a few steps later, she cried out in pain. “Ka-kaki hurts once.”

Frowning, Dewey walked over to his side, then found the little girl's legs pierced by thorns in several places. The originally smooth legs, were now covered in soil and traces of blood.

Sighing, Dewey was somewhat helpless. Getting this weak girl to walk barefoot in the forest was indeed difficult for him.

With a cold face, Dewey hung two shoes around his neck, then turned around and crouched down.

“Good!”

“Hm?”

“I said, up!” Dewey's turning his back on the witch girl. His voice still sounds cold. “Quick, don't waste time. I'll carry you.”

“Ta-ta-but..”.

“Nothing but. Listen, little girl. We must return to the place of the dragon before the sky is dark. We're not familiar with this island, who knows what creatures are here. Now we have no ability to protect ourselves. We need to move fast. Don't bullshit, go up now!”

Dewey's resolute voice made poor little Vivian not dare to refute. He immediately imitated Dewey, hanging his shoes around his neck, then lying face down on Dewey's back.

Walking a few steps while holding the magical girl, Dewey felt overwhelmed. Although his thoughts were those of an adult, his body was still the body of a teenage boy. A child who has been weak from illness since childhood.

“Te-thank you.”

A while later, the magical girl on Dewey's back suddenly said in a low voice. His voice was so small that Dewey barely heard it. But, the man only snorted without saying anything.

On this remote island, night falls, poor little Vivian on the back of a foreign teenager. When he looked up, he could see a dark sky peering out from the cracks of branches and dense foliage. When he lowered his head, he saw the young man below him who was trudging along, even able to hear Dewey's gasping breath.

Vivian suddenly felt that this little noble who had always oppressed her and was fierce, was not so scary anymore.

When they returned to where they had fallen, the dragon was still sleeping. According to Vivian's explanation, after being injured, the dragon recovers by sleeping and does not need to eat a drink for that long.

It made Dewey sigh in relief. Fortunately, otherwise, this fresh water is not even enough for humans. Is that enough for a dragon?

Returning to their temporary camp with great difficulty, Dewey dropped the witch girl, then dropped to the ground and gasped for breath.

“Cannot... cannot...” Dewey took a voracious breath like a dying man. His body was weak, he complained. “First, let alone carrying a girl. Front behind one, I can run a kilometer with one breath. Body now really sucks...”

Vivian who was dropped on the floor did not scream pain this time, instead getting up sitting down. Seeing Dewey seeming claustrophobic, this foolish girl suddenly stood up, plucked a large leaf from a tree, then sat down next to Dewey and fanned it.

Dewey gasped for a moment then looked at Vivian. “What do you do?”

“A-I see you seem very tired. Bi-let me fan you,” Vivian said seriously.

Dewey chuckled amusedly. This girl is stupid, but really cute. “Thank you. But, did you not know that it is early spring, the weather is quite cold?

Dewey took the large leaf from the hand of the witch girl, looked at the girl's blushing face with a smile then said, “Already, now we have to make a bonfire. Otherwise we'll be cold at night. We have nothing now, it will be troublesome if it hurts.”

Actually, the problem of cold at night is not difficult to solve. They slept well near the dragon.

After all, the dragon was a fire dragon. But if they sleep near such a large creature, if the dragon turns around in the middle of their dreams, they will die.

Vivian will be the first witch to be killed by her magical pet in history.

Dewey picked up enough branches and leaves, then asked this magical girl to make fire magic. Small fireball. Now Vivian's magic power is just the rest.

After lighting up the tree branch, then having Vivian hold the torch, Dewey brought many branches, then they came to the beach. Dewey lit the fire, he piled the branches as high as he could, the fire blazing.

Amidst the darkness, a glaring flame light might be visible from afar though.

Dewey sighed. This is the only hope. May there be ships passing by and seeing the fire here, then sending people here. Then they might be saved.

After doing everything, Dewey was already exhausted. He lay down on the beach, then let out a long breath.

At this time.cruk!

Dewey was stunned and then heard again.

He sat down, then looked at Vivian with a faint smile.

“Ma-sorry, my stomach...” The bonfire made the face of the witch girl appear red. Vivian touched her stomach in shame. “A-I'm hungry.”

“I also.” Dewey sighed. “Unfortunately, we did not find any small animals on this island. Otherwise outdoor barbecue is also not bad.”

“Ba-how about li-wild fruit?” Seems like hunger makes witch girls smarter.

“Try looking around, where is the tree? Just give me nothing. There are only tree leaves and weeds.” Dewey. “If not, do I have to remind you?”

“Ba-how about i-fish?” The witch girl pityfully looked at Dewey. “A-there are fish in la-sea, right?”

Dewey put his shoulder around and looked at Vivian. “Can you swim?”

The witch girl nodded.

“I also can't.” Dewey smiled wryly. “We both can't swim. I don't have the ability to catch fish. Besides, I was looking for him on the coast this morning. I only found a few shells and an empty conch. Unless your hull can digest a hard shell.”

“But... but I'm hungry once in a while.” Poor little Vivian pouted, staring at Dewey with twitching eyes.

“I have no idea. Just go to sleep. Tomorrow morning I'll find a long stick to fish on the beach. Now it can't, the sky's dark, and we can't swim. Will be bad if drowned.”

Vivian sighed. He could only sit obediently, subconsciously sitting next to Dewey.

“Speak, chat can forget to be hungry.” Dewey smiled. “We haven't really understood each other. We are hard friends together now.”

“Ba-how new called understand?”

“For example...” Dewey thought, he hugged his knees while looking at the stars in the sky. “You're so young, it doesn't seem to be older than me, right? How did you become a great wizard? This is a proud thing.”

“A-I also don't know.” Vivian hugged her knees as well, then sighed. “A-I've been with the teacher since the small. I'm ti-never out, this is the second time.”

Dewey turned to look at the stupid girl at a glance, he suddenly smiled. “Actually your voice is quite pleasant to hear. Sweet and soft. If you do not stutter, it will be even better.”

“Ma-sorry, I wasn't as intentional.” Vivian's face flushed. “A-I've been less able to bi-talk since the small-time.”

“Actually, the more stuttering, the more having to say. Any thing will improve if done often.” Dewey said with a smile. “Already, tell me how you became a level eight mage. Looks like you are the first person in the entire empire to achieve this kind of feat at such a young age.”

“What?” Vivian looked at Dewey in confusion.

Dewey sighed then smiled wryly and said, “Hey, I'm praising you. At least give a reaction.”

“Ah, ma-sorry. A-me...” Vivian was panicking again.

“Stupid girl.” Dewey. “It seems you understand nothing but magic?”

Then Dewey patiently chatted for a while with Vivian. Vivian painstakingly told Dewey some of the situation.

She, Vivian Young, had been learning magic with her teacher ever since she could remember things.

But how Dewey asked about the identity of his teacher, this foolish girl did not divulge anything. Dewey failed to fish.

For a while, suppose his teacher was an extraterrestrial.

Since childhood Vivian lived with her teacher in a hidden place. He said, on a deep mountain. In a dozen years, Vivian has only come out twice. Besides, it was almost all her time researching magic at home.

Every day his job is to learn various magical knowledge, memorize strange and difficult-to-understand magic, and wash the clothes of teachers.

“Washing clothes?” Dewey chuckles. “You can wash clothes?”

She pulled Vivian's hand and looked at her. “Hand as soft as this does not look like it can do homework.”

“A-I can!” Vivian's face flushed. Either because Dewey didn't believe his words, or was ashamed that his hand was pulled by Dewey. “A-I can wash it with magic. Cu-enough one magic, clothes can be washed alone.”

Oh, isn't that like a washing machine, Dewey thought.

Vivian came out twice. The first time he had taken his teacher to the headquarters of the Magic Union in the imperial capital was to take an undisclosed magic level examination.

Before that exam, his teacher once said ‘I have to make the eyes of those fools in the Magic Union widen! Let them know a genius as great as what I'm teaching!’

As a result, some magicians of the Magic Union who were judges at that time, indeed widened their eyes.

Because judging from the magic point of view, Vivian was indeed a genius! Genius among geniuses!

A 14-year-old level eight magician. There has never been such a witch in the history of magic.

“I-it's one year yes-the last.” Vivian's a little shy. “Pe-witches were telling me to stay in the imperial capital, but Master said, no-one was washing clothes, so he took me home.”

“Huh, it's because your Master doesn't want you to be taken by a witch in the Magic Union.” Dewey certainly isn't as innocent as Vivian. “Everywhere, level eight magicians are important people. In the Magic Union though, how many level eight great magicians were there? Huh, you are so young anyway.”

“Hm.” Vivian blinked her eyes. He does not understand Dewey's words, but he becomes happy. “A-I passed the test, Teacher is so happy. He gave me a gift, Hot... Hot Sun.”.

“That dragon?”

“Hm!” Vivian looked excited when talking about her magic pet. “That's it!”

Dewey sighed. Who is Vivian's teacher? He could give a gift of a dragon.

Not a dog, but a dragon.

Vivian stayed at her teacher's house for a year. Every day learn magic and wash clothes.

After that, this time was the second time he had played in the outside world. To catch the Illusory Demon of Fear, his teacher's pet, who ran away.

“Wait!” Dewey suddenly stood up, he looked spirited as he looked at Vivian. “Where is the Illusory Demon? Still with you, right?”

Vivian nodded her head. He opened his robe, the little Illusory Demon was locked in a cage hanging on Vivian's waist.

“Bomach oh belly, finally you survived!” Dewey's eyes glowed hungry, he gulped down the salivary. “Hey, stupid girl! We don't need to go hungry anymore. This little creature seemed to contain. Although there is no spice here, after peeling the skin and then burning it, it should be quite tasty.”
