Demon Laws
Chapter 55: Frozen Forest, Monster World

Dewey is moody because all the items bought by the old witch use Dewey's money. When kidnapped, Dewey carries a bag containing hundreds of gold coins.

He hurriedly put on a leather jacket, his – sheepskin hat his thick rim covered the ears – wore snow boots, then hung the sword on the waist. Dewey already looked like an adventurer who was going on an adventure in the Frozen Forest.

Out of the inn, a small sled was already outside. Four sturdy grey snow dog legs stepped on the snow.

The sled space is very small. Dewey is forced to get involved with an old witch. The old witch was still wearing the same white robe. He did not seem to be afraid of the cold. Once close to him, Dewey realizes a mystery. No matter what kind of magic this old man did, Dewey felt like he was near the furnace when next to him. The body of the old witch let out a warm feeling.

“Huh, can magic, great?” Dewey grunting.

He felt astonished because there was no coachman on this sled.

This old witch is truly versatile. He's even good at riding sleds.  He shouted anything, just sat on the sled, then said, “Jalan.”

The four legs of the carriage-pulling dog immediately ran. When to turn or slow down there is no need to be controlled by an old witch. The snow dog carried the sled well. He left a trail in the white snow along the road to the north.

Despite wearing a jacket and hat, Dewey still felt cold. His eyes cannot be opened. He could only approach the warm old witch for warmth.

The cold wind in the northern region was made of knives. Both in his previous life and in this life, Dewey lived in the south and never went north. He had never seen such endless snow in his life.

Along the way, he curses old witches and cursed weather.

The sun was still hanging above, but it did not feel warm at all. Dewey. Shortly after, the snot had already frozen in his nose. He wiped it firmly and almost scratched his skin. Dewey was in pain and almost cried.

The Frozen Forest was located at the northern end of the mainland, which he said was the northernmost part of the mainland.

That place was also a boundary set by the Roland empire officially. Under ordinary circumstances, the imperial people were not allowed to go north.

Further north there were not only cold storms and snow that could freeze people to death, not only were there limitless forests, but they were not, but it is also one of the two areas on land where monsters move.

The Empire stationed an army at the southern end of the Frozen Forest. Storm troops from the north of the empire spread along the southern border of the Frozen Forest. All roads leading to the Frozen Forest established a post.

It's all that's visible.

But unseen, every year there were still many mercenary teams as well as small adventurer teams exploring the Frozen Forest. They usually have little skill. The terrifying monsters in the Frozen Forest were gold coins to them.

The skins and magic cores of the various types of monsters that could be obtained could be sold for a high price in the southern region.

The Empire allowed such semi-public smuggling activities.

The troops walking on the southern border of the Frozen Forest only prevented ordinary people from entering that dangerous area. Adventurers, witches, or high-level samurai with skills often manage to evade patrols. Some large-scale adventurer teams even dared to fight the patrol troops for the sake of smuggling.

The Roland Plains appreciate the brave. Although few witches, samurai were numerous. There are still many people who are willing to take risks for profit.

After walking for less than half a day from the small town where Dewey and the old witch had departed, they had already arrived at a post. The imperial troops were in white robes. They're definitely more cold-resistant than Dewey. There were even some high-level samurai who only wore leather vests, revealing chest hair. Next to the post, they washed his body with snow while singing loudly.

This post was built on land without using stones. Frozen ground in the northern regions is harder than rock. Soft soil dug in the summer, piled up, then buffeted by cold winds for one night can be a solid wall of soil.

Looking at the soldiers wearing thick white robes and leather hats, Dewey did not know to praise or admire. Anyway he just curled up.

The old witch whistled, the four legs of the snow dog stopped in front of the post.

There were about hundreds of soldiers in front of this post. Seeing the small sled stop in front of them, everyone immediately surrounded him. The soldiers spontaneously reached out to touch the knife at the waist. The strong man who bathed in the snow was clearly their captain. He immediately threw snow in hand, running over while carrying a spear.

In the snow, the samurai ran quickly and arrived in front of Dewey in a few steps. The man looked like a barbarian. His beard covered almost a third of his face. He looks rude. Judging from his run in the snow, it seemed that his martial will was quite impressive.

The soldiers blocked the road. Someone was about to speak and instantly fell silent when he saw the old witch clothes.

The soldiers in the Frozen Forest were knowledgeable. There are often witches who like to come here to catch rare monsters. The magic core is the magic material that magicians love.

When they saw the old witch's clothes, they instantly knew her identity even though there was no magician level badge in the old witch's clothes.

It was actually nothing new in the Frozen Forest. The witches who came here already knew of the imperial ban. Despite the high status of magicians, they would not challenge the empire openly. So, in order for the troops not to hinder them and to hide their real identities and names, they would not wear their magic level badges.

After all, the magicians on the mainland were not many. If wearing badges, soldiers are easy to know their level. If they wanted to make a calculation, the soldiers could go to the Magic Guild to investigate their level and appearance.

Hence, the magician only wore a magic robe in the Frozen Forest without wearing a badge. It is a semi-public custom. This is what is called doing evil without leaving a name.

Dewey rounded his eyes, looking excited. According to him, the small army wanted to have no hope of blocking their way. Although Dewey did not know the old man was as great as what, judging from Vivian's magic talent and how she gave a dragon to her disciple as a gift, could his skills be ordinary?

If they were going to fight, Dewey bet that in a few seconds, an old witch could defeat hundreds of those soldiers.

However, Dewey was disappointed.

“Gentlemen, I have official documents from the Magic Union.” The old witch smiled and handed the parchment over to the barbarian samurai. “The Magic Union gave me the privilege of entering the Frozen Forest.”

Seeing this calm-faced old witch, the warrior captain was stunned.

Although he looked rude, he was quite meticulous. He had already been instructed to guard the entrance of the Frozen Forest for so many years that it was quite knowledgeable. The magician he met was also not just one two.

Witches are usually arrogant. Otherwise flying using magic, they would create a gust of wind so that the soldiers could not catch them.

There were also those who stopped the soldiers with one hand, then walked in haughtily.

All of that is common. They knew that if the magician really wanted to break through, those who numbered in the hundreds would definitely not be able to intercept him.

However, good witches who politely took out legal documents and seemed to negotiate like this were extremely rare.

With a suspicious expression, the soldier captain received the scuffed parchment.

I don't know how long this thing has been. The text is a bit faded, even the parchment is a little tattered. The captain held it carefully, afraid of damaging it.

As soon as he saw the text there, the captain's expression suddenly changed, his eyes almost popping out.

“Official letter copy. Holders of this official letter may enter the Frozen Forest unconditionally. Members of the military as well as the local government of the empire could not stand in his way. This official letter is valid for ... hundred years?!”

What the fuck is this thing? Valid for a hundred years? This old man isn't playing me, is he?

The captain began to think that was not when reading up there. He had met some con men as well.

Everyone knew that the military forces did not dare to intercept the witches here, so there were some impostors who had once made magic robes in order to pass by.

However, look at the signature under the letter….

“Emperor Roland Empire, Augustine V. Head of Mainland Magic Union Roland, Zuridya.”

The document signed by His Majesty the Emperor and the Chairman of the Magic Union?

Worse, the Emperor Augustine V who signed this document had already died for sixty years, while the current Chairman of the Mainland Magic Union Roland had changed people. The autographed chairman also died forty years ago at the age of 119.

The signature of the former Emperor of the Empire and the former Chairman of the Magic Union?

Who is this guy?

The captain could certainly tell if this thing was real or fake. Signatures can be faked, other than with a stamp. Both the seal of His Majesty the Emperor and the Chairman of the Magic Union were marked with anti-counterfeiting magic.

When holding the document, both stamps will appear on the parchment, then disappear slowly.

The captain was being serious and respectful.

The identity of this old witch must have been great. At least he was an old man in the same era as the former Emperor of the Empire and the former Chairman of the Magic Union.

A little captain like him could not afford to offend such a person.

Since the letter was valid for a hundred years, the captain guessed the age of the old witch.

He rolled up the parchment and gave it to the witch with two hands, his tone sounding even more polite. “Your Majesty the Witch, welcome to the Frozen Forest. The twenty-seventh patrol team of the White Wolf Infantry under the Storm Troop of the northern region of the empire salutes you. Do you have any other requests? We will definitely try to fulfill it.”

The old witch was acting very awkward. “Nothing, just give way.”

The sentence made the soldiers who blocked the path step back, even taking the initiative to sweep the broom in front, then march to escort the old witch.

After the post left behind, Dewey asked, “The letter is really?”

“Ya,” jawan old witch flat. “But today is the last day the letter applies.”

Dewey sticking out his tongue. “Last day?”

He stared at the side of the old witch's face and asked, “How old are you?”

“Son, has the discipline of the Rollin family been this slump? Asking older people should use polite words.” The old witch smiled. “Usiau...”.

A glum look flashed in the old witch's eyes when she said it. “I myself have forgotten.”
