Grandfather Robert's Will

Grandfather Robert's Will
Chapter 09's

"The number of hours I work and what I produce is none of your business at all" Jenson said with a glint of anger in his eyes.

How happy Rachel was to see Jenson on the verge of anger because of the words she said. His other brother was friendly, and so civilized. Jenson was always different from the others, as it became more enticing for Rachel to continue stirring up her anger.

With a smile, Rachel let her wrist be touched by Jenson.

“Did I say that it was my business? Nothing, I'm just commenting on your work instead of taking care of it. Can we get these things into the room and then we have tea? It's a little cold here.”

Jenson was always amazed, though a little disinclined, at how smooth Rachel's hand was, but still she was a bitchy woman. He should have known that being a screenwriter who could design a scene that would give him the maximum benefit was not easy, he should have appreciated his cousin's natural talent.

“Teh, good idea.” He let go of Rachel's hand, then followed her back to the room. "When we draw up some agreements before tomorrow we get married.”

“So, yes?” Rachel opens the door and lets Jenson in. He looked around, admiring how amazing his room was.

It used to be that Grandpa Robert let him decorate the room himself, and he chose white as the base, then he gave off a surprising splash of colors. Light yellowish green and blue on the walls of her room. Rachel made a long horizontal oil painting, with colorful sunrises in the desert, and decorated it with ostrich feathers as a sweetener.

Rachel asks Jenson to put her suitcase beside the bed, satisfied to see the fire in the small marble fireplace has been lit, she dumped her jacket on a chair.

“If you go into your room, I always feel like I'm entering Better Homes,” Jenson comments while putting Rachel's suitcase away.

Rachel glanced at her briefcase, then turned to Jenson. “I'm sure you'll be far away feeling at home when in your own room. Your room is more towards Field and Stream. I hope the tea is done.”

Jenson looked at Rachel, long enough. The jacket Rachel was wearing had been hiding a cashmere warm suit that wrapped her slim waist. It was forced to remind Jenson of what made him start to be interested in Rachel, when he was a teenager first. For the second time Jenson wished Rachel a man. "Let's go down" Jenson asked.

Even walking down the stairs, they did not talk. In the living room, amidst the luxury of Middle Eastern shades designed by Grandfather Robert, Nyoman had prepared tea for them.

“Oh, you've lit the fireplace. Nice work.” Rachel came closer and started to warm her hands, the rainy season had started to arrive, her body was not so strong with cold air.

“Me and Jenson can pour it themselves, Nyoman," prevent Rachel when she sees Nyoman about to pour warm tea into her glass. "I'm sure that Jenson and I won't need another one until dinner" he banishes Nyoman subtly as he and Jenson must immediately discuss their pre-wedding agreement.

Rachel leisurely looked around, the curtains hanging, the sofa notched from brocade, the solid fat pillows looked very cramped and comfortable. “You know, this room has always been one of my favorite rooms," said Rachel as she approached the tea utensils, she began to fill her cups.

“My age was only twelve years when my parents and I visited Turkey, and this room can always make me remember the Turkish atmosphere clearly. You want to use sugar?” ask Rachel.

This is just the beginning Jenson thought, with the old waiter and the fat chef as her witness. Six months from today, she and Rachel will sign a document, promising that all the terms in the will be adhered to and followed. What worries him is the time to run it.

“Rule number one,” Jenson starts without further ado. “We are both on the east wing because this makes it easier for Nyoman and Jesica, if we need anything. But..“ he stopped, hoping to emphasize his point, “...we both have to respect each other's territory, especially my work space.” Jenson doesn't want Rachel to interfere with her work.

“No problem.” Rachel crossed her legs and sipped her tea.

“Again, because of them, it seems better for us to eat at the same time. Therefore, for the sake of each of us survival, our working hours are different so we can talk at mealtime.”

Rachel smiled at him and fiddled with the cake. “Oh, I totally agree. Let's take care of our personal things.”

“See, we started well. Rule number two. None of us, no matter how bored or agitated, can disturb the other." Jenson doesn't want to spend six months in a war with Rachel.

“Regulation number three. If one of us is having a banquet, the other will make himself almost invisible. This applies also to our wedding tomorrow, I don't want anyone to know about our wedding.”

Rachel's eyes poked. “Oh, do you think I want anyone to know that I married you for inheritance? Of course not, I don't want to be stamped materialistic. Rule number four. Floor one is neutral and must be divided evenly unless a specific arrangement has been approved first.” He tapped his fingers on the arm of the chair. “If we both do not cheat, we will make it through these six months comfortably.”

“I have no difficulty in playing honestly. As I recall, you're the one who cheated, "accuse Jenson.

Rachel's voice became so cold, her tone was very awake. “I don't understand what you're talking about.”

“Canasta, poker, gin," Jenson recalls some games that he thinks Rachel cheated when playing with him.

“You have absolutely no proof,” Rachel got up and poured some more tea into her cup. “Again, playing the card is completely different from this problem.” Rachel's body warmed by the fire in the fireplace, soothed by her tea, she smiled at Jenson.

As Jenson recalled, that kind of smile was extremely dangerous, and dazzling.

“Do you still have the heartache of the five million I won from you?” ask Rachel.

“ Wouldn't have if you played honestly.”

“I won it,” Shall Rachel. “If I cheat and you don't catch my actions wet, then I cheat smartly" he said with a laugh.
