I swallowed spit. I thought this plan would fail. It is possible that those of us who failed the exam could outwit Francis Bancroft, an important member of the Magic Union. I cursed in my heart. The plane ticket to Norway was clearly in my head.
As I was about to put my backpack back on, Mathias ran towards me, grabbed my wrist, and ran away from Father who was in the corridor of the house towards the kitchen.
A cold wind hit my skin making my hair flutter. We were both still running through the wind coming from the opposite direction, trying to stop our pace. The longer, Mathias' hand grips hardened. We are increasingly pushed back by the strengthening wind every second. I could feel my body start to float up, but I was still trying to maintain my footing.
“Cable back.” Raung My father's from the corridor. His voice makes me feel better. My sweat began to drift apart in parallel with the wind which kept telling us to retreat face to face directly in front of Dad's face.
Mathias let go of his grip without me guessing, I cursed inwardly as the roaring wind slapped me mercilessly letting me fly violently towards the corridor, where my father was waiting for us.
My back landed on the wooden floor with a deafening sound. The wind was still roaring loudly around me making my head dizzy. My ears are buzzing and my body feels broken in all parts. Sucks. Even though I know Mathias can't beat Dad's wind magic, at least he gave me a cue so I could prepare myself or maybe avenge this wonderful Father wind magic with my lousy water magic. Not a bad idea.
“Stop messing around, Mathias. Follow what I said.” My father growled. His voice was getting clearer in my ears. This means Dad's standing not far from where I fell. Maybe on his side or behind him.
“You're gonna kill me.” Shouted Mathias defeating the sound of the wind gales clashing against each other in the corridor. I could faintly hear the clinking of cutlery in the kitchen as well as the sound of broken plates hitting the floor.
“I will really kill you if you prefer to escape.” Reply my father equally with a loud voice.
The buzz in my ears began to subside, slowly I got up and adjusted my vision. Sure enough, my father stood a few meters in front of me. The wind that collided with each other obscured my view of Mathias's existence at the end of the hallway. I looked up directly at my back.
I can attack him.
“Stop, Darling.” My mother whispered right in the ear that made me turn and freeze. “Better you take a good look at how your father's magic works.”
Mom has a magical talent that turns her invisible. It's free that if I run away, he could follow me in the back and beat me while I'm not careful.
I cursed in my heart. How do I escape?
Mom stood one step ahead of me when I turned around. His eyes glowed, his mouth flashed an odd smile, his right arm reached my shoulder and held me in case I came forward. On the mother's neck was a silver bell-shaped necklace of golden color. It was one of the magic tools left by Grandma from the Nolan family. As I recall, the necklace could make anyone who wore it emit magic energy twice as much as usual.
I was silent for a moment feeling the tightness of Mom's grip on my shoulder. If I could duck down instantly and let Mom off guard for a few seconds, I might be able to pull and steal the magic necklace.
Apparently succeeded.
My mother half screamed when I managed to pull the magic necklace and directly lunged at me without further ado. But, the magic power in the necklace made it into my body when I felt that energy just flow. Mother is no longer in front of me, meaning she has used her troublesome magic talent.
I gotta hurry. The energy kept flowing in my blood circulation, then the next second I screamed loudly.
BRUK!
Something as big as a mammoth appeared in the corridor of the house destroying the walls and roof of the house immediately that could not accommodate the size and weight of the creature. The roar sounded like the sound of an angry tiger but was more deafening.
“What the fuck?!” it was my father who cursed the creature, whether he was where.
I opened my eyes. I seemed to have been unconscious for a few seconds when I was thrown down the stairs, because when I woke up the scattered wood buried myself. My head is back, dizzy,
more precisely the roar of the creature makes me dizzy. My body began to feel lax when I tried to move my legs.
The night sky looks beautiful up there, no matter what happens down here. The silhouette of someone flying in the sky there attracted my vision. That's Dad. He can control his wind magic so that he can fly.
From here everything gets even crazier. Father's extraordinary wind magic began to attack the creature continuously. The mammoth trunk was mad about driving anything around that caused my house to collapse in just two loud swings.
Father flew agilely looking for the blind spot of the mammoth and then attacked it with a strong wind that could tear off its thick skin. Father darted to the side, rolled down, flying behind his head while continuously sending out crazy whirlwinds.
hate snakes.
But, I can't run.
The ground continued to tremble, but that did not stop the fierce fight between Father and the mammoth. The snake suddenly shot up from behind the rubble as if it was standing on its feet. I narrowed my eyes watching the silhouette.
Then, the other snake stood up straight. Behind the mammoth, another snake rises. But this time it's different. The snake crawled up into the body of the mammoth, coiling on its belly continuously enveloping, I don't even know where the snake's tail is. The two snakes that had been standing earlier came crashing and tied the legs and the neck of the mammoth.
The mammoth roared loudly, its voice shrill in pain. I hurriedly closed my ears when I heard a painful hum.
Pause.
“Alison?” mom's subtle voice made my sanity return. I opened my eyes slowly afraid that the mammoth was still there but I only saw Mom sitting by my side helping to remove the rubble from my body and legs.
Silent. There was no murmur of a mammoth in pain, no annoying roar of wind. Ambiance
turn silent for a moment.
The sun begins to appear in the eastern horizon replacing the moonlight. Dad flew over to me and Mom, his nightgown was tattered, his black hair was a mess, as well as the expression Dad showed.
Dad landed in front of me when Mom helped me stand up. My legs are numb, but they still work.
“That switch beat him?” without my help, the question came out of my mouth. Dad sees me alert now. I added. “I saw it myself.”
“It's not a snake.” My mother's heart trembled a little. Come to think of it, I rarely see a mother like this.
I shrivel. Then, what?
“True, it's not a snake.” Connect Dad. “That's the tree root. Someone with natural magic defeated him.”
“Hah? Natural magic?” I heard this when I was a kid when Aunt Jane told me about it, Mathias, and Yara. But, I never heard of anyone being able to master nature magic. It takes a great amount of magic power and a natural talent that can use it.
Wait for.
Matthias.
I should have run away tonight with him.
Oh, excellent.
I looked at Mom and Dad in turn. It seems our escape plan could not be carried out. We lost the house tonight and both of my parents surrounded me. It's only a while until Mathias emerges from the rubble and, yes, we'll be sent to Norway.
“Em, where's Mathias?” I asked awkwardly in case they remembered the last time they did before the mammoth attack was to stop my stop plan and Mathias.
Dad looked at me for a moment with eyes that I didn't normally see. He's like half angry, annoyed, but also tired and resigned. “Mathias lost.”
