"I want a divorce" Oddie said.
Hearing Oddie mention the word divorce easily makes the two men quiet each other. Grandpa Moeis understands why Oddie asked for a divorce. To be honest, he also supports Oddie's decision, but it all comes back to Nathan because after all he is the head of his family.
"What about you?" ask Grandpa Moeis to Nathan.
Whatever Nathan's choice, Grandpa Moeis has decided to be Oddie's side. Even if Nathan doesn't want a divorce, Grandpa Moeis will figure out a way to make Oddie live a better life.
"There's nothing to talk about anymore. Because forever, I'll never divorce Oddie."
Oddie's heart was crushed when he heard Nathan's reply. If they were a loving couple, such an answer would definitely make Oddie flowery. But they are different because there is no love from them.
Oddie bowed listlessly. The only hope he had for a free life seemed to have been completely lost. Moeis' third-party grandfather could only take a deep breath. He knew this situation was going to happen, but still did not want to voice his opinion because the conversation of Oddie and Nathan was still not finished.
"Why?" ask Oddie.
"It's none of your business!" replied Nathan.
Nathan got up from his seat. Grab Oddie's hand to take him away. But his steps are held back because Oddie still wants to stay. "Then let me work!" pinta Oddie's.
Nathan looks at Oddie with a cynical smile. What kind of work could he do with that disfigured body?
"worked? What kind of work can you do? Which company will accept you?" nathan asked with a look and a condescending tone.
Oddie's back down. Biting his own lips at Nathan's question just now. No company will accept disabled employees. But he needs money to live. So, Oddie will keep working as anything to earn money.
Grandpa Moeis who had been silent since then finally spoke up. He knew Oddie was a learned boy. Although he has never worked at any company, but Grandpa Moeis believes Oddie must have the ability. Then about Oddie being flawed, it won't be a problem because Grandpa Moeis will make Oddie his confidant in the company.
"Just work at grandpa's company. Grandpa will find a position worthy of you" bargained Grandpa Moeis.
That answer made Nathan clench his hand. On what basis. Why Oddie had to work at his grandfather's company. What would people say if they knew this was what Dean Nathan's wife looked like?
"I don't agree!" reject Nathan.
"Does grandfather need your consent?" ask Grandpa Moeis.
"Dad?" nathan's Protest.
Seeing the relationship of grandfather and grandson that became bad because he finally made Oddie speak up. "Thank you, Cake! But Oddie will find work for Oddie himself" Oddie refused.
Being part of Grandpa Moeis' big company is Oddie's ideal. But that was before. Once upon a time when he was still in college. Now, let alone being part of that big company, just set foot on Oddie feeling unworthy.
"Die?" call Grandpa Moeis. He wants to defend his decision. Oddie refused it again.
"Sorry, Mother! But Oddie knew Oddie was inappropriate" Oddie said.
"It's good that you're self-conscious" Nathan said.
Since there was nothing else they were talking about, Nathan immediately pulled Oddie out. Brought her roughly and pushed her into the car violently anyway. Even the screams from Grandpa Moeis to slowly were slightly ignored by Nathan. The man drove the car at high speed. Leaving the real Kirana was waiting for her to go home together.
BRACKET
Nathan pushes Oddie to the floor violently. Lock the bedroom door, take off the suit and roll up his sleeves up to the elbows. Oddie who was used to it could only curl up against the wall, protecting himself while asking for forgiveness.
But that did not make Nathan merciful because a hard slap had landed on Oddie's cheek until it turned red. Oddie held his cheek that was like it was on fire. Either his heart or his cheeks, both of them were getting shapelessly crushed. Actually Oddie didn't want to cry but the slap was too loud. A drop of blood even flowed from the corner of his lips.
"Crying again? Is it just crying you can do, Die?" ask Nathan.
Nathan pulled Oddie's hair back. Ignoring Oddie's agonizing cry then wiped the blood from Oddie's mouth with his hand before rubbing it into Oddie's mouth. "If you dare say divorce again. I'm really going to make your two eyes blind and your two legs limp!" threaten Nathan and release Oddie to the floor.
Oddie clasped his hands tightly. Seeing the sole end of Nathan's shoes with blurred eyes because of the tears that were held back. When will his suffering like this end? Is Nathan not going to stop until he's completely blind and paralyzed? Rather than just making him blind and paralyzed, why not just kill him all together?
"What's wrong. Why are you so cruel to me?" ask Oddie with a trembling mouth.
"Your fault was born to that corrupt couple" Nathan replied.
Oddie wiped his tears. Brave to look at Dean Nathan and hold one leg. "How much do I have to pay. How much money do I have to give you in order for you to set me free?" ask Oddie.
"What do you mean, Die?" ask Nathan.
"I'll work. I'll pay back the money my parents took. So, can you tell me how much I have to pay to be free?" answer Oddie.
Nathan lowered his body. Gripping Oddie's cheek and answering, "Even your lifetime, you'll never be able to pay for it, Die! Even if it's only 1."
"Even so I will still try to pay for it. All my life, I promised I'd give you all the money I had. So can we get a divorce? I'm begging you, Dean Nathan!" Oddie.
Nathan tightened his grip. He knew Oddie had a visual impairment. But he also knows Oddie is not deaf. So is it still unclear what sentence he said earlier?
"Die, I remind you one last time. If you dare say divorce again. I'm really going to act cruel!" said Nathan.
.
.
.
"Oddie?" greet a man by lowering his car glass.
The so-called Oddie was silent. Then he noticed the man who was now getting out of the car and approached him.
"Die, how are you?" ask the man again.
"Do you know me?" ask Oddie.
The man smiled broadly. Of course he knows Oddie. He was Oddie's friend at Junior High. They are not close friends. They are not class either. They only know each other because Oddie used to be a member of the PMR. While the man who is currently greeting Oddie is an injured basketball boy and gets first aid from Oddie.
"I know you very well" replied the man.
The man held out his hand. He never had a chance to introduce himself to Oddie. Actually, not without a chance. It's just that he's not confident. He's just a little basketball kid with little achievement. Very different from Oddie with his myriad achievements. But, now that he had met, then now was the time to introduce himself.
"I'm Aarav. You don't know me. But I know you very well" said Aarav.
