Kanaya was pacing around in the room when she heard the commotion in the living room. He rushes to see her, as he vaguely hears Alex's voice.
"What happened to him?" Kanaya asked with a worried tone.
"I should have asked you that, what did you do to her? You must have done something to put her in this condition" Ms. Mariana yelled at her.
"I didn't do anything" Kanaya said.
"I know you've been bad for her ever since I saw you, now look what you've changed her," Ms Mariana said.
Alex groans and Kanaya helps him up, completely ignoring his mother, he has no time for her scolding tonight.
Kanaya put Alex on the bed and helped her take off her clothes, she had bruises on her face and her knuckles, she must have been involved in a fight, she said, he wondered if their quarrel that morning caused it.
Alex opened his eyes the next morning, he tried to sit down but the exploding pain he now felt made him fall back onto the bed, he groaned loudly while holding his head.
"That's what you get for drinking too much, the side effects are always bad" Kanaya said, carrying a tray of coffee.
The smell of freshly made coffee filled the room, he helped her with his hands under Alex's head for her to sit leaning back.
"It's this drink" Kanaya said.
Alex happily drank a few sips.
"Thank you" said Alex, handing the cup back to Kanaya when he finished drinking.
Kanaya touches Alex's swollen cheek by putting some ice packs on it.
"Oh," cried Alex grimacing again trying to keep his face away from Kanaya's compressions.
"Be quiet, you don't think about pain when you get into a fight, what do you think?" kanaya said in her sharp tone, making Alex sit still like a regretful child.
"I don't think" Alex replied casually.
"What are you fighting about?" kanaya asked looking at him furiously.
"A woman" said Alex, smiling for a moment. But suddenly the smile turned into a cry of pain as Kanaya suddenly pressed down hard on her wound with ice.
"Gaming over a woman, in public," asked Kanaya.
"What can I do when my wife kicks me out, I have to find a woman to keep me company with" explains Alex.
Kanaya didn't answer, she just left.
Alex immediately took a cold shower, he felt much better, he had to attend a board meeting today. He had to be in the company to sign some important documents before the meeting, he quickly got dressed.
Now that the bruises on his face had turned purple, hopefully easing up before the meeting, in addition to feeling fine thanks to Kanaya, he gave a small smile at the thought of how he had taken care of her, like a wife, for a long time he had not received such treatment from a woman. Last time from his late mother, he missed her a lot, though he still harbored some resentment towards her for leaving her so quickly. Since his death no woman has really cared about him, all they see is wealth, games, and apparently.
Alex getting into Damaputra's company is strange, he hasn't been in this company since his mother's death. Although papa and his mother had run the company together, his mother was the actual owner of the company because the company was originally founded by the parents of his mother. Her mother had inherited everything including property when they died as an only child, when her mother married Dama a prince of noble descent, she had changed the name of the company to hers, she said, but all legal documents still remain on behalf of his mother.
"Welcome, Mr. Alex," Alex bowed.
"Morning, Jake," replied Alex.
Alex glanced at Jake, "Now, what's our schedule for today?"
"Council meeting, this is a document that requires your signature and this is a deal you made with some companies and developers, it also needs your signature, Mr." Jake explains.
"Hmmm," said Alex gesturing Jake to his desk.
Alex suddenly looked up and frowned at Jake as his assistant was still standing in his place after putting the document away.
"What's wrong?"
Jake shook his head, "Allow me to say. Sir, you're really great, the deal you made in just a matter of weeks. And I tried to get it for months and you got it in a matter of weeks, it was amazing."
Alex said nothing of his praise.
"But Sir, what happened to your face, not all the members of the board accepted you completely, the bruises might leave a negative impression on them," said Jake who just realized that his superior son was injured.
Alex frowned, "Can't I have a personal life other than a business? I'll handle it and you can go!"
Jake leaned over and left her alone.
Alex walked into the Hall, all the councillors were already seated, waiting for him, some gave him a skeptical look, others looked at him curiously and some with faces of disapproval.
As Alex walked to his seat, everyone stood up to leave, but Alex waved their hands back to their seats.
"I need to clarify the obvious problems on the pitch that all of you will ignore" Alex said.
They all said backwards in this project, they were also staring at each other.
"I'm sure there's some controversy over my being here as president, I'd like to hear your honest opinion. Those who disagree with me stay, I want to hear your excuses, please speak up now" Alex said.
Now Alex is silent as he watches them, they all stare at each other in uncertainty.
Now the left slowly raised his hand, he stood up to Alex's permission, "I only care about your reputation, you become a playboy and change partners often. I'm afraid it might affect the reputation of the company, people might ridicule it and it will affect the company in the market."
Whispers among the council members, most nodded in agreement at the observation as if the members who had just spoken had expressed their fears.
"I'm afraid I can't do anything about my reputation, but what I will say is that I'm no longer a playboy because now I have a wife, a beautiful wife, a beautiful wife, it shows a little responsibility to me."
"I couldn't control my past, but I could definitely control my future. It shouldn't affect my future" Alex explained.
"Your personal life remains public as long as you remain a public figure, before you return, newspapers are already loading photos of you and other women who are not your wife," say one of the other members.
"And here you have bruises on your face like you were in a fight" said another interjecting and once again, muttering between them.
"But as I said, it's not going to affect running our business, I suggest we plan how to move the business forward rather than we think of gossip that isn't necessarily true" Alex said.
"We are impressed with the deal you made. In the last few weeks, it's been a tough deal" praised one of the members who loved Alex's hard work.
Alex smiled at the compliment.
"Why don't you throw a party for you and your wife, introduce her. That would distract the press and soon forget about the previous scandal" one member suggested.
