Jogja At A Time

Jogja At A Time
58. The Intersection In Jogja

A man of stature was walking closer to the corner of the Papilon discotheque parking lot in Ketandan.

The occasional flashing of neon lights on the ceiling illuminates the figure of another man who is seen sitting smoking in his corner.

Hingar pauseg jedug the sound of music from inside the discotheque was heard from the corner of the parking lot where the man was sitting smoking.

The man was still sitting greeting the figure that approached him. The two then sit next to each other on the back of the rolling door of the store which is crossed out pilox paint strokes with three uppercase letters ... JXN ...

Almost all young people understand the graffiti QZR or JXN are crossed out in some corner of Jogja ... Initials that show the dark side of Jogja slices.

The world of Jogja streets after the era of digging or a combination of wild children who had disappeared in the 80's turned out to squirm again.

There are still groups that rely on life through muscle strength.

Each crossed out initials indicates the existence and territory of each group that relies on that muscle.

Security services, quoting loading and unloading, and asking for rent or donations to immigrant traders became the curtain divider for making money for each group.

Each has a different goal and a different way.

Some follow and surrender because they are still able to obey their will. But some choose to avoid it.

"Sori's... Makes you wait for Sen a long time," the man who just arrived at the corner said hello.

"Gak papa, .. earlier some of your men accompanied," replied Husein hearing the greeting of the man.

"Non service or undercover ?"

"Holiday, ... off Man's night picket," Husein smiled in response to Herman's question, the name of the man who had just sat next to him.

One of the young people who was in a group not far from the two stood up. It seems they recognize Herman.

"Wine mas ... " The young man offered a glass of local liquor to Herman.

Herman just grinned not to answer. Receive the proffered glass and finish the contents with a single sip.

...----------------...

For young people around Ketandan, especially those who often drink spend the night in the Papilon discotheque court is no stranger to the figure of Herman.

The one Herman was familiar with always called him Blegog. A nickname pinned by his playmates in the early days of his delinquency.

Blegog in Javanese language shows the nature of someone who tends to be emotional. Easily angry and light-handed if his wishes are not fulfilled. It is easy to explode without ever thinking about the consequences of his actions.

Herman's childhood was always full of commotion and fights with his playmates became the initial cause of him dubbed Blegog.

I don't know how many playmates Herman who bled because of a trivial quarrel at that time.

The game of marbles, rubber or trivial things that actually need not be questioned could be the initial cause of the small Herman tantrum.

Mr. Herman left her since she was a baby. Her mother has been out of nowhere since she was supposed to go to school. His uncle who became a bus touts at the Umbulharjo terminal then took care of Herman ever since.

Umbulharjo's harsh world bus terminal makes the little Herman his uncle often takes there to mature prematurely.

Too soon to understand how to earn money by begging and polishing shoes in Umbuharjo made Herman forget about school.

Out of school in fifth grade Elementary School, .. the streets and the life around him seemed to be a new teacher for Herman.

Cigarettes, booze, gambling, and eventually caught up in the pleasures of the night woman who often basked in front of Umbulharjo into the days of little Herman until his teens.

Decides to leave his uncle's house to make him more free to become a choice Herman right at the age of sixteen after getting to know Darmi, the woman of the night because his aunt who first taught him to be a man.

Living with Darmi in a cheap boarding house is the beginning of Herman knowing the needs of life.

If before being with Darmi the money he raised from the streets was enough to support him. Since being with Darmi, all the money he raises is always not enough for both of them.

Prohibiting Darmi from selling himself again and his blind jealous nature plus worldly pleasures that do not want to be left to be the lighter of the black world Herman.

Selling coplo pills and occasionally asking for forced money to Chinese traders around Umbulharjo done Herman to cover the needs of life with Darmi... But that need can never be closed due to the lifestyle of both.

A small quarrel became big one night when Herman saw Darmi with another man coming out of a small inn when he came home from drunkenness.

There was no distaste when Herman passed the two.

Darmi's screams made Herman more and more fierce to vent his anger. His opponent was bleeding ... Sprawled on paved roads.

Darmi ran away from nowhere when Herman's anger was about to be diverted to the woman.

The noise provoked people around him to arrest and gang up on him as Herman's knife injured one of the approaching residents who wanted to know what was really going on.

...----------------...

Deciding two more years in Wirogunan even makes Herman deeper in his dark world.

Getting out of Wirogunan did not necessarily make Herman's world turn for good, when hunger and thirst could not be withheld ...

Deciding to return to Umbulharjo to ask for a loan of money to a person he knew, Herman actually knew the people's fears about his freedom.

Herman's instincts felt there was another convenience he got after a rash of fear of his freedom from Wirogunsn.

If he had to bluff first, now the person whom Herman came to would step aside as soon as he saw his arrival.

Those who do not have time to step aside will resign and obey whatever the will and desire of Herman. That is what it is ...

Blegog jebolan Wiogunan became a name that is increasingly discussed in Umbulharjo ...

...----------------...

"It's your part,.." Herman handed the thick enough envelope to Husein after the pleasantries in the dim corner of Papilon ended.

Husein received the envelope.

"Many of your trades are inside ?" Ask Hussein then.

"As long as you're around, my trade is getting rame dab,"

"Origin don't be late for your deposit ... Many eyes and mouth that I have to gag if you still want to sell," chuckled, Hussein's mouth spewed out a puff of cigarette smoke.

"Ready man..." Herman grinned.

One of Herman's childhood friends was Husein.

The mischief of the two at that time made them familiar until a different way of life had separated them.

Husein because he comes from a well-off family does not get plunged into the dark puddles of Jogja street life because of his mischief.

Whether because of luck or there are other reasons, Husein even accepted when registering the police at the request of his father.

The two met again accidentally when Husein who just finished his education served in Jogja.

The meeting that brought Husein and Herman close to the past occurred when there was a commotion at one of the night entertainment venues.

...----------------...

Two large gangs who are competing to find a name for the scrawl of initials QZR and JXN that overwrite each group's writings.

QZR is the initials of Qizruh, short for Q-ta Zuka Ribut For Entertainment ... It is not known who first founded it.

It is said that the QZR controlled the northern region of Jogja. Followers of this gang are often seen hanging out in the Terban region.

While JXN is the initials Joxzin stands for Joxo Zinthing. But there are also those who say it originated from the word Benzin Pojox, the casks of Kauman children who clustered in the corner of the square.

Hearing the sound of a commotion not far from where he stood, Herman who was then a parking lot at the entertainment venue accidentally passed by a teenager who was pressed and ran towards him.

Thinking Herman was the teenager's friend, the horde of pursuers turned its rampage toward Herman.

Don't want to die silly, Herman fought it out. When pressed heavily, and cornered into the months of the opponent's explosion of gunfire finally broke up the fight that occurred... The gunshot saved him.

Mutual views ... The two pairs of eyes finally realized that they had intersected at a time ...

"Nrivou ..." Husein, who remembers the snake tattoo on Herman's hand, hugged the man who had drooped on the asphalt.

That was the beginning of time that reunited Herman and Husein and also the teenager who accidentally helped earlier ... Which turned out to be the sister of one of JXN's respected frontmen ...
