Jogja At A Time

Jogja At A Time
69. End of 1998

The departure of Seti to Panjatan with Slamet, as Seti alleged there were indeed things related to work that continued. Seti found out after picking up Yoga director CV where he works from the airport and delivering to his branch office in Jogja.

About the arrival of Yoga in addition to related to the progress of the work of planning the way through the Sermo reservoir also follow up the work of iron sand mines in Panjatan which is still in the exploration stage of CV where Seti works.

Slamet deliberately invited Seti in addition to signing his work and placement contract, also to be introduced with Yoga.

The soft but firm word Yoga impresses Seti. Moreover, the age is not much different from Slamet makes the talk about the desired job Yoga easily understood Seti.

The offer for a one-year employment contract and being placed in Panjatan was finally accepted and signed by Seti after Yoga also recounted the difficulties of his efforts which were constrained by the heated political situation.

Slamet also convinced Seti that the employment contract was just a kind of CV commitment to retain potential new employees. It is only after there is clarity of the political situation that the status of contract employees will be clarified.

Unexpectedly Seti, after he received and signed a contract of work turned out to be paid his salary in full in advance. Yoga does not want to take risks if there is political chaos that causes work in Panjatan to stop and causes salary payments to hinder work.

Therefore, for the salary of employees of his CV contract which is placed in Panjatan, Yoga chooses advance payment. Of course, not just anyone who chooses Yoga. From face-to-face talks with Seti and guarantees from Slamet to be one of the factors Yoga does not hesitate to choose Seti to help his work that is still at risk of loss.

...----------------...

"So you went to Jogja with Hening ?" Seti asked in the middle of his phone conversation.

"Yes Set" replied Asri.

After the clarity of Panjatan's work was finished, Seti impatiently called Asri to report his good condition and invite Asri to spend the end of the year with him in Jogja.

The silence that Asri said would also end the year at the home Wirobrajan actually made Seti not want to let the opportunity close to the two to end the year with a new story each, respectively, blocked distance and time.

If the story about Asri had almost completely become part of her story, little heart Seti wanted to know more about Silence after her engagement ... However Silence never stopped in the pleasant past.

It is impossible for him to let Silence just like that when now his foot has stepped on independence as a man.

Actually since Silence decided to return to the house of jengki, Seti wanted to ask through Asri what he could do for Silence, if the return of Silence to the house of jealousy because of a cause that can be helped.

If only Asri had not offended Silence at the phone conversation just now, Seti will not be disturbed to want to know more about the state of Silence now and many other closeness that disappeared then suddenly appeared to disturb the space missed Seti.

How since the incident Drini to step on the land of Panjatan no more Joe and Doni with boisterous lapak Malioboro, then Dibyo with the smoke of the fish grilled shop Drini, joking laughter Muji and Mbah Jum at the Samirono boarding house and there are still many longings for the Jogja hall that alternately slapped Seti.

"I'm happy if Silence comes to Jogja. It seems like the end of the year will be fun," Seti started his conversation again. "I haven't seen Joe and Doni in a long time either. Hopefully they have time to meet" he continued.

"Eh how are they doing ?" Sela Asri's.

"Since our engagement, I haven't seen each other again. During my time in Kulon Progo, I only once went to Jogja. No time to see them."

The second conversation then turned to their respective longings and of course also discussed the affairs of Drini which are still a problem ....

There was a sense of pleasure in Seti's heart after exchanging stories with Asri.

If in the past happiness was the reason what he has done has given pleasure to him, this time Seti happiness is if what he does gives pleasure to others.

Asri's laughter that was heard was still recorded clearly in Seti's mind when he closed his phone. The plan to spend time at the end of the year with the closest people makes him impatient to finish the work he has to do before the New Year holiday comes ....

...----------------...

Fortunately the CV where he works provides temporary housing money until there is clarity on the continuation of iron sand exploration that is being done.

The afternoon break was used by Seti to find a boarding house around the keet directors and work offices.

Almost similar when in the Sermo reservoir, Seti's work in Panjatan requires him to go down more often in the field.

It's just that if in the Sermo reservoir he is more often up and down to the interior of Menoreh hill, in Panjatan Seti sample collection location only along the coastal coast Panjatan.

Manual drilling techniques using an auger drill require that the physical worker must remain fit to carry and move equipment and work equipment every move.

Therefore, Seti who originally thought of commuting to work from Samirono boarding house every day finally decided to look for a boarding house around his workplace until the sample collection work was completed.

...----------------...

"Excuse me ..," Seti knocked on a simple house on the edge of a rice field near Daendels Street.

"Monggo ...," before long the figure of the grandfather opened the door and smiled kindly towards Seti. "Come on, son" he continued.

A set of bamboo risban without plisturans welcomed Seti who entered the house. Sitting on bamboo risban when the sun is hot-heat is very soothing to anyone after being exposed to the sun while walking down the village road near Daendels Street.

After asking some people who were working in the rice field, Seti was shown the house he had just knocked on. It is not easy to find a hostel around his workplace far from the village.

"I Seti Mbah ... work at CV Bintang Mas near the beach of Mlarangan," Seti introduced himself after sitting opposite the grandfather.

"Oh, .... The factory that sells sand from Jakarta ?" Grandfather thought Seti's workplace was some kind of sand trading company." What is the same for Mbah ?" Ask again.

Seti laughs after the grandfather is awake to hear the explanation of his workplace and the purpose of his arrival.

"Call me Mbah Karto just son," the conversation then flowed familiar.

The friendly Mbah Karto lives with his oldest grandson in the house. All her children were in Lampung following the transmigration of the 80s.

Mbah Karto then told, the assumption of infertile land on the south coast that is very attached to his childhood memory. No wonder many choose to leave the coast to other areas.

Then some migrants try their luck, cultivate coastal land Panjatan by planting watermelon, chili, and melon.

Mbah Karto and some of the residents who survived took part in trying to cultivate the land and combine it by making simple embankments. So that when the tide occurs not all coastal land is submerged in rob water.

I don't think that way works. Slowly the coastal area of Panjatan became one of the best chili producing regions in Indonesia.

Seti confirmed the story of Mbah Karto. His little heart reminds of the potential for conflict with local residents if the exploration of iron sand along the southern coast of Kulon Progo continues to mining work later.
