As far as anything is separated, if the soul mate is still a mate. There will always be a destiny to meet. It can never be avoided if God wills. The soul will remain united. Because the ribs will never be changed.
July 2006
Different than usual. Tonight this week, Nana was just sitting in the room. This is the first time he has not been asked to date his girlfriend, Aziz. In fact, the man had no news since morning.
His heart was waiting. The fear hit him. Many messages he sent to the man's number, but none of them got a reply from him. He called her repeatedly, but there was no answer.
The clock shows at 23:00. However, his eyes could not be closed. He took his phone. Then he type the message he will send to his girlfriend's number.
“Darling, you why? Don't leave me like this. If there's a problem, we'll talk about it. Good night, my dear. Sleep well yes!”
Send. The message was sent. He tried to close his eyes again. His heart was already a little peaceful, making him able to fall asleep.
School is still empty. Only a few students have arrived. Nana walked in the school corridor with her head lowered. He did not want others to see the situation quite strange in his eyes that were covered in glasses. Crying all night to fall asleep made his eyes black pockets. Even though he was wearing glasses, the black bags in his eyes were still visible.
“Na,” call his best friend, Vina as soon as he gets into class.
He lifted his head. “Na, jeez Nana! You're okay, right?” Exclaimed Vina - startled at the sight of her eyes.
“Yes. Better than yesterday,” he said briefly.
Vina raised her eyebrows - in disbelief.
“How about your eyes?” Ask the girl to worry.
“My eyes are not okay. But, believe! This is much better than yesterday,” replied Nana a little bit upset with her best friend's question.
“Good. Do you have a problem with Aziz's sister?” Ask your best friend slowly.
Oh no! Good Lord! Why was the man's name mentioned again?
“Aish! I broke up with her,” she replied.
“Kok can?” Vina looked at him in disbelief.
“Yes, can! People idup aja can die,” answers origin.
Vina clucked in annoyance at hearing her answer.
“That's destiny!”
“Well, this one is also destiny!” The urge not to lose.
October 2013
A girl was walking on the sidewalk, with her white headscarf fluttering in the wind. He just got home from the office where he works. On the way, his phone suddenly rang.
My Mom is calling …!
He immediately received a call from his mother.
“Yes, Ma? Whahuh? Now then? Nana's still on the road, Ma. Wait a minute is okay, right? Okay. Waalaikumsalam.”
Clik. The phone was switched off by her mother. He hastened his steps to get home soon. Mama told me there was a guest who had little business with her.
In the courtyard of his house was a strange car in his eyes. He was sure it was the guest car his mother said was on the phone.
“Assalamualaikum,” greetings before entering.
His breath was choking at the guests who had come. He hurried in and climbed the stairs to his room. But, late. Her mother caught her presence wet.
“Waalaikum greetings. Uh, Nana's here. Join here first, Na!” Call her Mama while waving her hand.
Inevitably, he approached with his head bowed - ashamed to see them.
“Na, know this Aunt Intan, the friend Mama. That's Om Reza, Aunt Intan's husband. And the most handsome was Aziz, their first child,” Mama pointed at her guests one by one.
He met Aunt Intan, and Om Reza. Then cupped his hands to Aziz. Don't ask, this Aziz is her ex-boyfriend from High School. And what did his mother say? Aziz is the most handsome? His heart could not avoid that statement. He admitted, Aziz is handsome.
That girl is Nana. He accidentally didn't mention Aziz when he introduced himself. He was sure that the men knew him.
He shouted at his mother's arm - signalling that he wanted to get out of there. But apparently, the code could not be interpreted by the mother.
“You're why, Na? From that moment I couldn't be quiet. Shy little cake, same guest we tuh,” Mama looked at him confused.
He patted his forehead.
‘Mama failed to understand.’ It's entrenched.
He could see, on the other side, Aziz's lips twitching with laughter. He was sure the man had been watching him since. His eyes glared sharply at the man. Succeeds. The man was silent for a moment. His lips no longer twitched. He looked back at his mother.
“Ma, Nana up first yes!” Then he climbed up the stairs - kabur-to his room.
Mama and the guests gawked at it. Then, they compactly chuckled amusedly at the behavior of Azzalea's daughter.
Nana is back in a fresher state than before. Her work clothes have been changed with a purple robe, with a matching hijab. He sat down next to his mother. His father is still in America.
“Good. To shorten the time, we will immediately convey our purpose to meet you,” Om Reza looked at Nana and Mama one by one. Then he looked at his own son who looked nervous.
“Before, I apologize if my arrival with my parents made Aunt and Nana surprised.” Aziz sighed before continuing.
“My main goal and my parents came was to propose to Aunt Azza's daughter named Nasya Abira Zahida or Nana,” Aziz successfully said that sentence in one breath.
Nana's? Don't ask. The girl was already hot cold in her place. His heart is beating fast. His hand squeezed the robe he was wearing. Head bowed. Cold sweat ran down his forehead. Nervousness melanda.
“I leave all the decisions to my son,” Mama said then grabbed his hand and held it– gave strength - as if understanding the nervousness that was running over him.
He took a deep breath. Then exhale it slowly to reduce its nervousness. He raised his head slowly. Then he looked back down as Aziz looked at him.
“How, son?” Tanya Om Reza–request answers.
He raised his head again.
“Bismillah. This application, I did not reject.” His words are firm and steady.
He could see, everyone - including the man - had held their breaths hearing the word ‘not’ spoken from his lips. But the next second, they were compact grateful and breathed a sigh of relief hearing his answer.
September 2015
It is almost two years since his marriage to Aziz. Today, she and her husband and son will move into their new home. Their house was built a week ago. But, they just moved today, because his mother still wants to be with him longer.
He opened his closet. Search for books that are important to bring to a new home. However, his gaze was fixed on an envelope that was in the hidden part of his closet. A section containing only confidential documents. He recalled, this envelope contained a letter from Aziz when they broke off their relationship.
He read the letter from the man. The corner of her lips lifted as she read the last three paragraphs her husband had written.
“Do not cry. I don't like any tears soiling your pretty face. I let you go doesn't mean I don't love you. But, since I love you so much, I don't want this love to mislead us both.
Believe this. As far as anything is separated, if the soul mate is still a mate. There will always be a destiny to meet. It can never be avoided if God wills. The soul will remain united. Because the ribs will never be changed.
If you love me, be patient. If Allah wills our reunion, I will come to propose to you in seven years. By the time I've established myself as your companion.”
He put the letter back in his envelope. Then, he put it in a suitcase that he will take to the new house.
“You are right,” Nana said while leaning her head against her husband's chest. “Stupid is still a soul mate. Because the ribs will never be exchanged,” continued repeating the sentence in the letter while looking at Aziz who smiled sweetly at him.
The man kissed his forehead. Their son has been asleep since. And of course, it makes Aziz happy, because he has time to be alone with his beloved wife.
“Yes. And I say it again. It's not me who chose you, but God chose you for me to love,” he said, staring at his wife's pretty face without getting bored.
“I was so grateful when God chose you to be my priest,” his wife's face was beaming when he said it.
“I am also very happy with the prayer woman of his choice,” his own face is no less radiant than his wife's face.
The two men smiled and looked with loving eyes, inviting God to send down His mercy on them.
