The Adventure of the Kecapi

The Adventure of the Kecapi
Chapter 170

Once Han Beng put forth a curiosity in his heart as to why his teacher lived as a beggar.

"Teacher is one of the magic figures who have high intelligence in this era. If the teacher of his will, with that intelligence, the teacher can gain a high position in government, or can become a successful entrepreneur, even if the teacher needs property, what is the difficulty? why did the teacher become a beggar? Sorry teacher didn't the general public view the beggar as a lowly, despicable and lazy person?" asked Han Beng who was full of curiosity.

"Hc ..ha...ha....!"

Kwe Ong was not angry at all, even laughing roaring at the question of his student,

" Han Beng, my good student, do you really not see how noble a beggar is and how great his merits are? beggars like us are not lazy!" exclaim Kwe Ong each with his laugh.

Han Beng understood that his teacher was a person who had a strange disposition, but he believed in the wisdom and devotion of the grandfather dressed in a raspy suit.

"Glorious and great? students really don't understand what the teacher means?" asked Han Beng who looked at Kwe Ong in surprise.

"Listen well, my disciple" said Kwe Ong.

The usually laughing and bright face was now looking serious, and his usually joking voice now sounded earnest.

"I was a wandering man who had no permanent residence, no more than one or two days in a room. This makes it impossible for me to work looking for a mouthful of rice. People certainly do not want to use the energy of people whose lives are not fixed and only for a day and two days. Not because lazy, but forced me to beg to fill the stomach to maintain life. Wouldn't it be better to beg than to steal or rob? Now why do I say noble? Because this work is a very good exercise for us, for you especially, Han Beng. By begging, you learn to be humble! This exercise removes self-importance. And why meritorious? Because, beggars at least arouse a sense of humanity in the hearts of good people, touching their feelings to put compassion on a fellow living who is suffering from distress." explained Kwe Ong.

Thus, ever since obtaining the information from his teacher, Han Beng did not feel shy or hesitant anymore to beg. He even considers this a very good mental exercise.

He can now see the attitude of those who insult him, scorn him, without the slightest feeling of anger or hurt, even secretly laugh at them, and from that attitude he can learn many human dispositions.

This exercise is excellent for fostering patience, broad outlook and deep feelings of humility.

Thus, when he was chased away by the drugstore master whose stomach was fat, he left without feeling any heartache. Only his heart felt somewhat uneasy.

He did not lie when begging for medicine. The teacher got sick! His teacher had a fever and cough. It was also surprising how a saint like his teacher could get sick.

This reminds him of the fact that no matter how intelligent a person is, but this human body needs to be cared for better, maintaining health must be done really, cleanliness must be maintained.

Silat cleverness makes people good at protecting themselves against attacks from outside increase power and speed. But against a disease that strikes out of nowhere, which does not appear a fighter who however clever will not be able to dodge or fend off.

And this body will not be free from disease, old age and death. Even though his teacher accepted the illness calmly and patiently, Han Beng felt restless and he felt compassion for his teacher.

Already since this morning he was begging for medicine, but the result was always humiliation, mockery and ridicule. It felt like this once he broke his teacher's taboo.

How easy it is to jump on top of the tile of the house or drugstore, through the tile goes inside and steals whatever medicine he needs and no one will know. If anyone knew, he could save himself very easily.

There was a war in his mind between those who encouraged him to steal and those who opposed him. At that moment, he saw another medicinal shop again up ahead.

The medicine shop in front of him was not as big as the drugstore that had just kicked him out, but he stepped unhesitatingly to the front door of the shop. He saw that the shopkeeper was an eighteen-year-old girl, assisted by two half-aged male employees.

The girl and her two employees looked at Han Beng, and especially at his patchy clothes. The two officers furrowed their brows, clearly looking displeased. One of them even immediately rebuked.

"What did you come here for? They sell medicine, not food. If you're gonna beg!" exclaimed one of the medicine shop employees with curiosity.

"See there's no red belt on your waist! We cannot give you alms!" call the other officer.

"Pardon me if I interrupt." said Han Beng.

"Uncle!" call the girl suddenly reprimanding in a loud voice to her two employees.

"You can't behave like that!" continue exclaiming the girl while staring at the two employees.

The two officers bowed their faces to their lady. Now the girl looked towards Han Beng and they were only blocked by the medicine cabinet.

For a moment they looked at each other with attention. Even if not directly, Han Beng observed the girl.

An eighteen-year-old girl, slender in stature and somewhat tall when compared to women in general, her face was sweet and graceful, with clear eyes and a friendly mouth.

The girl also imagined doubt and astonishment in her eyes as she observed Han Beng full of probing. A young man who is so handsome, also his body is well maintained and clean, even if wearing patchy clothes, it seems certainly not a beggar-asker! she also showed her sweet and friendly smile before speaking in a smooth voice.

"Hope you forgive the attitude of two of our employees. Understandably they are often disturbed by the beggars so that their attitude is rather stiff. What can we help you with?" ask the girl kindly.

It was a new experience for Han Beng that made his face somewhat reddish. He is usually accepted with the eyes of pity or scorn, but only once people deal with it as not a gem, as an ordinary buyer.
