"Kian, wake!"
The gentle massaging motion on Kian's arm made her open her eyes weakly. The sunlight that barged through the window slit made Kian's sleepiness instantly disappear. He looked at the figure of the old woman who was still at home spitting on his arm.
"Grandmother just woke me up," lirih Kian hoarse while sitting up.
Grandma Sofia smiled warmly. "You came home late last night. Where can Grandma wake you up early."
Kian rubbed his two eyes which still felt a bit. Last night he came home at 2 am because his shif friend suddenly got sick, as a result Kian replaced him. Though this morning was his schedule to take Grandma Sofia control to the Hospital.
"I'll take a shower, Grandma." Getting down from his narrow bed and then rushed to the bathroom in the middle room.
An hour later, after breakfast and heating his motorbike, Kian hugged Grandma Sofia to the Hospital. For two times a week, Grandma Sofia underwent Hemodialysis or dialysis. For two years now the act of washing blood was routinely done. Every time she brought Grandma control, Kian would exchange shif with her friend and this monontonous life never made Kian complain.
"Not to be taken, Kian. Grandma can walk by herself!" granny Sofia's sigh while holding Kian's hand that gripped her arm tightly.
Increasingly, he let his beloved Grandmother walk alone ahead of him. In the hallway to the room for washing blood, Kian saw a figure he had known for several months was sitting in the waiting room.
"That's Jonathan waiting for us, Kian! Come fast!" Grandma Sofia turned around and ordered Kian to hasten her pace.
"Yes, be patient, Grandma."
"You're so loose!" grunts Grandma Sofia while passing first.
When he saw Kian and Grandma Sofia coming and approaching, Jonathan stood up and smiled warmly.
"Hello, Grandma! Hi, Kian!" sapa.
Smiling and cheering Jonathan. "Good day, Mr. Nathan."
"Why haven't you come in yet? What time is it!" sela Grandma Sofia.
"I'm waiting for Grandma, it's not fun to enter alone!" jonathan chuckled as he grabbed Grandma Sofia's arm and dragged her into the Hemodialysis room.
Kian smiled wryly watching the intimacy of the two. He shuffled in the waiting room, still 4 hours left before they came out of the room, so Kian would take advantage of this good time to sleep.
In the hospital canteen, 4 hours later. Sofia's grandmother, Kian and Jonathan were eating together while having a light conversation.
"Is it still itchy, Grandma? Want me to buy you some medicine?" Kian watched Grandma Sofia who was seen scratching some parts of her body, one of the side effects of Hemodialysis.
"No need! It will also disappear on its own. Quickly eat your rice, we must go home soon. You're in the night, right?"
"Sir Nathan's fine, right?" ask Kian at last.
Jonathan flinched, he looked at Kian. "good. How do I look, Kian?"
"Sir Nathan looks thinner than a month ago. Doesn't Mr Nathan feel it?"
Jonathan shook his head quickly, and he gulped down the mineral water in front of him nervously. Doctors say if his kidney condition does not improve despite washing the blood, all because Jonathan has a history of hypertension.
"Because, you're getting thinner, Nathan! Are you sure you're okay?" Grandma Sofia was starting to worry.
"Well, Grandma. It's never been this good, every time I see you I feel better!" jonathan's Lie.
Grandma Sofia glanced at Kian who was also staring at her. They both know that Jonathan's condition is getting worse, just like the circumstances of some people who once washed blood with Grandma Sofia. And they end up dead.
But in reality, it was Grandma Sofialah who died earlier than Jonathan. Suddenly that night Grandma Sofia was short of breath, lucky to have taken her to the Hospital. The situation was stable, even had a joke with Jonathan who immediately came to visit that night as well. But in fact, a few hours after Jonathan came home, Grandma Sofia breathed her last.
"Kian, let's go home."
He turned his head weakly to Jonathan who was still faithfully accompanying him at Grandma Sofia's funeral.
"Sir Nathan, there is a will from Grandma that I have to convey to you" said Kian lirih.
Jonathan did not say, he watched Kian's grim countenance.
"Grandmother asked me to donate one of my kidneys to you."
Jonathan's eyeballs popped out instantly, he shook in shock. "No, Kian. No need to get there."
"This was his will before he died. My job is to deliver, whether it's accepted or not up to you, sir."
"I don't want to sacrifice you, Kian. If I wanted to I could buy anyone's kidney! That's not you."
"I won't die just by donating one kidney. My grandmother and I want you to live and start a new life. Hopefully you can ease my burden to fulfill Grandma Sofia's last request."
"Thanks ..."
"I beg you, please help me to fulfill Grandma Sofia's last wish, Mr. Nathan! Hicks ..."
