Chapter 49: The Mercenary

Regal has a new home, their home is in a vast meadow opposite a river and a hill, the river and the hill are the border between Wimbledon and Belterre. Of course it was all a decision by Eleanor who wanted her son to be close to home. But that didn't stop the two of them from exploring the continent and getting the job done...

They both rode a horse, the Kallen horse was a mare with a large body and striking white fur. On the other hand Regal's horse side looks a little smaller with black fur that can camouflage with the night, they both currently get a job to eradicate the robbers when they stop by in a village. Regal then saw a cave that the robbers made the base, Regal killed the guard who was in front of the cave entrance,later Regal saw there were many carts that the robbers used when looting are now outside the cave.

Regal blocked the entrance with carts, then threw torches at the pile of wood. No one is burning, but smoke from burning wood in large quantities can kill people, especially if done in a closed place like a cave. The robbers tried to break even though they had to deal with the blaze made by Regal. Until after everyone fainted, Regal and Kallen entered the cave while killing the unconscious people,many of them were still half conscious but helpless before Warriors like Regal and Kallen.

The two of them continued to kill until they finally opened a room, where there were many hostages who were none other than women, Regal had calculated that there were hostages so he did not burn too many carts. Regal and Kallen eventually repatriate the hostages and also the loot that was there safely.

Regal then looked at Kallen and said. "You'll get used to it... It's better this way than wasting energy against them." Kallen nodded and replied. "I know this is necessary..." It's been a few months since they moved, Kallen seems to have gotten used to Regal's tactics when they were on a mission. After all, warriors and knights are different, knights fight with honor, while fighters are people who fight with honor but he will sacrifice honor if it can achieve its goal.

"Ah we've arrived." The two of them were now in a ruin, more precisely a dying city. "From all places, why do we go to this place? This place is already unused after Teloch wrath to mankind. This place is indeed still protected by the Temple of Light but it seems that the Paladins in charge of collecting arbitrary taxes..."

Regal did not answer and continued walking, he saw that there were still people still alive in the place but there were no smiles on their faces. Regal and Kallen continued to see the gloomy faces as well as the beggars on the side of the road,unexpectedly the city that was once called the Town of Virgin where the birth of the hero of the Holy Kingdom Jeanne is now turned into a slum and full of decay. But Regal didn't come here to study history...

They both stopped in front of a public execution site, this place was burned but somehow everything remained intact even though the platform was burned to ashes,including the body tied to the pole. Regal went up to the execution ground and approached the body, but there was an old man who immediately shouted and rebuked Regal.

"Hey son! Don't do that! Those who touch the corpse of the Saint will be cursed by the Goddess Aria!!" Regal ignored him and replied. "The goddess Aria you're referring to was the one who killed this woman..." Regal thrust his hand into the woman's stomach, the stab clearly made Kallen and the old man frightened, the old man ran because he did not want to be exposed to the wrath of Goddess Aria. But Kallen was still there, and he saw and heard the sound of the hand breaking the nearly shapeless corpse. But he also heard and saw Regal, for a moment he saw Regal crying and saying.

Never had he seen Regal like that... Regal pulled his hand from the belly of the corpse while taking something from inside that belly. Kallen slowly saw a spark appear on the corpse, Regal then looked at Kallen and said. "Hold my hand!"

When their hands came into contact, the flame was burning so quickly that it made a pillar of blazing fire, all the citizens who saw the pillar of fire were obviously curious and went to that platform. Right now the platform is completely level with the ground with no left, not even a sign of Regal and Kallen there, everyone is confused about what happened, and so is Kallen.

Regal and Kallen, the two of them suddenly teleported to a place in the middle of nowhere, and to their horror they did not teleport on the ground, they both fell from the sky,they both fell down at high speed but Kallen's hand was held by Regal and Regal hugged Kallen, he held his wife's head with one hand and hugged Kallen with the other, as soon as they fell to the ground, he held her head with one hand,regal's body slammed into the ground first. Kallen could hear the sound of Regal's bones cracking as a result of resisting impact after falling from a height that could kill even a trained Warrior, but thanks to the Aegis Shield and Regal crashing directly toppled over him to remove the damage,he could survive and he could make Kallen survive without any injuries.

As Regal healed himself, Kallen watched the surroundings. They were in a forest, a forest that had been burned until the trees could now be destroyed with just a small touch. Kallen saw snow falling from the sky, but he did not see the stars or the sun, only the moon continued to emit a cold light that penetrated the skin. But when the snow fell into Kallen's hands, he realized it was not snow, but ash that fell from the sky.

"Where are we...?" Hearing the question, Regal stood up and replied. "This is a Dungeon, or rather a Domain. We have to hurry,ayo!" The two of them then walked through the burned-out forest, all colored in ash, from the ground to the sky all covered in ash. Kallen continued to walk with Regal until they finally arrived at a bridge. Under the bridge was a huge abyss, but what was before them was even more astonishing.

"Why is there a castle here?!" Kallen and Regal were standing on a bridge connected to the castle. While Kallen was confused, Regal looked like he was upset about something. "Kallen listen to me... What's in there has nothing to do with Mercenary duty, there's something I have to take. And let me just warn you, this fight is not easy, we can die anytime just get in there."

Hearing that Kallen did not put on a face of fear, instead he smiled at Regal and replied. "If it's really dangerous in there, somebody's got to take care of you from behind. I'm with Regal..." The two of them smiled at each other and finally they walked towards the castle.
