Not the Same Again

Semester 5 is a burning semester. Especially after knowing, Ichi has become a candidate for chairman of HMJ (Student Association of Majors). And back then, I wasn't as familiar with Ichi anymore as I used to be. This semester, I took a different class with him. But he whistled loudly to meet and talk to me.

"Ilyas, I'm running for chairman of HMJ you know" said Ichi who approached me.

I picked up a cigarette and cornered him while leaving the Faculty.

"is that so ?" i told him.

"Yes, I'm running" she explained to me.

"Oh" I said briefly while smoking my cigarette.

Looking at my usual expression, she looked disappointed and started showing her red Apple cheeks again.

"what is it with you ?. You seem to avoid me all the time. Take a different class, don't talk to me anymore, Chat isn't in reply, not even a phone call ever now. Even though we have Mabar Game, you even choose Log In yourself" said Ichi who began to be annoyed.

"Icha, I'm your best friend but not your boyfriend. You asked for it as if you were my girlfriend. You can do that with Joseph. I'm busy now especially with my work and helping out with Dad's work" I returned to him and left him.

"didn't people say, Friends are more important than Dating ?" ichi said to me.

I stopped for a moment and approached him

"if I were more important as your Friend, could you break up with Joseph now ?" I asked Ichi.

He just stayed silent for a moment and thought. I who saw it had a heavy heart to decide, he really liked Joseph as much.

“If I were a girl, you could say that to me. But our kind is different. You don't remember last semester Joseph was jealous because I was close to you?” obviously I was behind him.

I don't know what he was thinking until he stood behind me for a moment. I left him and after that the days started to pass and we never spoke again. Sometimes Ita comes by and talks to me. When he comes, he doesn't get bored he always asks me

I let out a heavy breath and burned a cigarette.

“i told you, I'm not in a class with him. After all, he was already one class with Yusuf. asked him gih” to reply me to him.

Ita who heard my explanation held my shoulder and stopped me from leaving.

A few days have passed, nothing special except now that two candidates have been decided. The faculty of Mading focuses on the photos of two candidates. A Primadona of our Faculty named Dina and Icha my former best friend. Seeing that picture on the floor, I didn't realize Rahman was approaching me

"Oi Ilyas, long time no see" said brother Rahman approached me.

Everyone was surprised to see us as familiar as a friend.

"I just saw the mading. I guess what's so many, it turns out the HMJ chief election" I replied to Rahman's brother.

"By the way, isn't Rahman focused on putting together a proposal ?. Then where's Kiki's sister ?" I asked Rahman.

"Oh yeah we both arranged. But now we are busy taking care of KKN and Internship. Not surprisingly, the agenda is like this" replied Rahman.

"Then, good luck with the activities" I replied while looking back at the tinsel.

For some reason, the people around me are so sensitive. Seeing that I was not as usual, Rahman grabbed my shoulder and whispered in my ear

"we plan to meet you before leaving KKN tomorrow. All the friends gather at Cafe Tani, it's Cafe he said used to hang out you guys. You don't want to come ?" bring Kak Rahman.

I know there must be a plan behind this. So I plan to reject it.

I just play games and push rank while drinking coffee. Until the confession of Ichi interested me a little

Nuge only looked at me as well as Ichi after listening to Ita's words. I don't know anything but this seems to be related to Ichi's feelings for me. Lately, I've been avoiding him. That's why, maybe he's doing this for me. Maybe I'm too PD but if it's true, I'll say something that won't make him resign in vain.

"Isn't that good ?. After all, Icha is not suitable to be the chairman of HMJ" I told them.

And all the friends of the time were looking at me with unkind and angry gazes.

"What did you say ?. After not long coming and always dodging, you're like this ?" kiki said to me.

Rahman tried to calm her down and I explained my point to them

"don't think bad just yet, I know being chairman of HMJ is a proud thing. But, his rival was Primadona whose supporters were almost all men in the Faculty. That's the first one. And the second, do not have to be the chairman to join and work at HMJ. if you want a high position, enough representatives but not the Secretary. Because the Secretary is a busier job than the chairman himself. The chairman's job is sometimes to certify and be responsible. Although it helps sometimes. Everyone was amazed and did not speak. Because I wasn't focused, my character died. I stopped my game and cornered my cigarette to relax over coffee. Hugging my shoulder until I was coughing from cigarette smoke, Rahman said to me.
