On a warm afternoon, after playing in the forest, Dewayani and the daughters of the wrishaparwa king, the king of giants, went to bathe in the lake on the edge of the forest. Before throwing themselves out, they took off their clothes and kept them by the lake. Suddenly a strong wind blew their clothes into a pile. As a result, there was a mistake when they finished bathing and getting dressed. Unintentionally the sarmista, the wrishaparwa princess, was wearing the clothes of Dewayani. Seeing that Dewayani became annoyed and said half-jokingly about the impropriety of a disciple's daughter wearing clothes belonging to her teacher's daughter.
Although the words were half-joking, the princess of Sarmishta was furious and responded arrogantly: "didn't you realize that every day your father was subject to worshiping reverence in front of my father who was a king? Aren't you the daughter of a beggar who lives by my father's mercy? Are you that I am the daughter of the king who generously gave. Are you forgetting that you're just a begging son. Very true your words to me!" Sarmishta was burned by his own words until his anger exploded. So angry, he unconsciously slapped his cheek and pushed Dewayani to fall into a dry well. Thinking that Dewayani was dead, the giant king's daughter immediately returned to the palace.
It turns out that Dewayani did not die. He was very anxious and sad because he could not get out of the deep well. Coincidentally the Maharaja of yayati, a descendant of Bharata, who was hunting in the forest passed through the place. Thirsty, he sought water. When he looked into the well, he saw something sparkling in the well. Yayati watched carefully and was surprised to find that there was a beautiful princess lying in the well.
Yayati cried out: "who are you, O beautiful princess with sparkling earrings and red painted nails.? Who's father.? Whose descendants are you.? How can you fall into a well.?"
Yayati cried out: "Who are you, dear princess de-
with sparkling earrings and red nails? Whom
your papa? Whose descendants are you? How can you be broken
into the well?"
Dewayani replied: "Hamba the daughter of Resi Sukra. My father didn't know I fell into this well. Please help me get out
from this well!" He extended a hand. Yayati immediately welcomed the helping hand and helped Dewayani out of the well.
Dewayani did not want to return to the capital of the kingdom of the giants. he no longer felt safe living there, especially if
remembering what Sarmishta did to him. Therefore, he said:
"Paduka has held the right hand of a princess. Because of that,
Your Majesty must marry a servant. I am sure in everything
Your Majesty deserves to be a slave husband,"
Yayati replied: "O dear princess, I am a knight and you are the daughter of a brahmin. How could the daughter of Resi
Sukra, who has all the skills to be a teacher to the whole world, is the wife of a knight like me? Princess jelita, daughter,
come back home." After saying so, Yayati returned to
the capital of his kingdom.
According to ancient tradition, a knight's daughter may marry
with the son of a brahmin. The daughter of a brahmin
you cannot marry the son of a knight. This tradition kept women from being relegated to lower caste status. Thus, anuloma or
the practice of marrying a man of a higher caste is acceptable
Aun practices the opposite or pratiloma (marrying a male of caste
lower eang) is not justified by the books of Literature.
Dewayani still refused to go home. he chose to stay inside
grief under a tree.
Resi Sukra loves her daughter more than love for her sen
selves. After vainly waiting for the return of his daughter who left
playing with his friends, he told people to
find his favorite daughter. Finally, after looking where-man
the messenger found Dewayani sitting under a deep tree
woe. His eyes were puffy with grief and anger. The messenger
ask what really happened.
Dewayani replied: "Go back to my father and say
to him. I no longer want to set foot in the capital
Wrishaparwa Kingdom."
Resi Sukra was very sad to hear the story of his daughter. la soon
meeting daughter.
He said, comforting Dewayani: "Our own work
make us feel good or suffer, not virtue or evil
hatan someone else." With words of wisdom, Resi Sukra tried
comforting daughter.
But Dewayani answered sadly mixed with anger:
"Dad, let the servant with the good and evil of the servant
by oneself. It's all my own business. But answer the perta-
nyaan this servant, is really the father of a singer slave whose job is
just flattering his master? He said I was just a child
a lover who lives on the basis of people's mercy.
Not content to insult, he slapped and pushed the servant up
fell into the well. The servant no longer lives on the ground
his father's power." Dewayani sobbed.
Calmly and with dignity, Mahaguru Sukra replied:
"My son, you are not the son of a 'singer boy' whose job it is
just flattering his master. Your father didn't live with
resi vang is respected by the whole world. Batara Indra, king of the gods,
Know that well. Wrishaparwa is not
closing your eyes on debt
this bud to your father. It is not worthy of a wise man
bring up his own good. Arise, O most beautiful sheen among women. You're gonna bring kebae
hagiaan for your family. Be patient and come home
In this context, Begawan Wiyasa gives lepa-like advice
da mankind in general with the words of consolation Res
Sukra to his daughter:
"The one who can conquer the world is patient
facing someone else's caci maki. People who can control
emotions are like a coachman who can conquer and
controlling the wild horses. He can take distance from his anger
it was like a snake shedding its skin. Only those who
not afraid of the torment will succeed in achieving what is
retold. As written in the book of suci, mercka is not
ever angry is far nobler than a man who obeys running
worship for a hundred years. People who are unable to control anger will be left behind by servants, friends
brother, wife, son, virtue, and righteousness. A wise person will not include the words of an emotionally charged young person
into his heart."
Hearing his father's advice, Dewayani worshipped respectfully,
"Dad, I'm still young. Father's advice is still difficult to digest.
However, it is not appropriate to live together with people who do not know manners. Wise men will not be friends
with the man who vilifies his family. Whatever, if he is evil, he is a despicable person who does not deserve to belong to any caste. It is not appropriate for a devout person to hang out together
them. Hot on my heart because of the snobbery of Princess Wrishaparwa. Wounds caused by swords can heal in the course of time,
but the heartache of piercing words will leave
forever grievous scratches,"
Failing to persuade his daughter, Resi Sukra faces King Wrishaparwa.
Staring intently he said: "Even if one will not immediately get vengeance for his sin, sooner or later the sin will be destroyed
wealth's source. Kacha, the son of Brihaspati, is a brahmacarin who has overcome the desires of the body and does not
ever committed a sin. He treated me with great earnestness and never strayed from the path of truth. Your servants repeatedly killed him, but I brought him back to life.
I can still take it. Now, my daughter who holds fast Susila is reviled by your daughter, Sarmishta. In fact, my daughter
pushed to the point of falling into a well. He can no longer stand living in your royal neighborhood. Without it I would not be able to live.
Then I will leave your kingdom."
Hearing that, the giant king felt faced with a big problem and said: "I have ignored the accusations
addressed to me. If you leave, I will plunge into the fire."
Resi Sukra replied: "I only want the happiness of my daughter. I don't care about the fate of you and the giants, your people. The only thing I have is Dewayani. I love her more than I love myself. If you can persuade him to remain in your kingdom, I will not
go."
So, Wrishaparwa went with a few bodyguards to meet Dewayani. In front of the daughter, Wrishaparwa worshipped and pleaded with Dewayani not to leave his kingdom.
Dewayani insisted and said: "Sarmishta who spies on me the son of a beggar-beg should be a lady-in-waiting and serve me in the house that my father gave me at my wedding ceremony."
Wrishaparwa accepted the charge and ordered his attendants to pick up Sarmishta.
Sarmishta admitted her mistake and worshipped, saying: "Yes, I am ready to be the lady-in-waiting as I wish
Devayan. I don't want my father to lose his teacher and have to pay a heavy price for the mistakes I made." Devessary
he accepted Sarmishta's mnaaf request and returned to Wrishaparwa's palace with his father.
One day, Dewayani reunites with Yayati. He repeated his request for Yayati to marry him because Yayati once held tightly to his hand. Again, Yayati refused. He said a knight was not allowed to marry a brahmin's daughter. In the end, they went to the Resi Sukra and got the blessing to get married. This pratiloma marriage, which is based on extraordinary considerations, Indeed, literary scriptures do not justify this kind of marriage, but
once this kind of marriage happens it cannot be annulled back.
They've been chasing happiness for years. Sarmishta kept her promise to be a ladyboy. One day, secretly
Sarmishta meets Yayati and asks her to marry him.Yayati has no power to refuse and they marry without the knowledge of Devayani.
Eventually, Dewayani learns of the marriage and becomes enraged and complains to her father.
The Sukra Rishis are angry, then curse
Yayati so he lost his youth.
Thus, Yayati suddenly became a grayish parent at an age that was still struggling with youth. Yayati beg for forgiveness
the Resi Sukra. Recalling his kindness in helping his daughter who fell into the well, Resi Sukra softened her curse.
He said: "O Lord King, you will lose the splendor of youth. My curse cannot be undone, but if my Master can persuade people to exchange their youth for your old age, you will get your youth back." Later, the rishis blessed Jayati and pamt
go awayl.
