Chapter 9: Do Not Mix

Alvaro focused on driving his car across the streets that were quite jammed during the return hours of work. He had to stop several times because of the red light. Flora sat beside him while Gavin in the middle back seat was busy assembling the toys.

"I'm sorry today's been too much trouble for you, sir. Moreover, Gavin's request is also existent," said Flora with an unpleasant feeling.

"It's okay. I'm not too busy either" Alvaro said.

Flora looked towards the man. "But you don't want to go back to the office? I also feel bad for others. They must be waiting for you."

"Why are you thinking too much about unnecessary things? That's my business" tepis Alvaro.

"After all, you're still here to drop me off." Flora was getting bad.

"I told them I couldn't come. So, the meeting will be led by the head of the project manager. You take it easy."

Flora became a little calm.

"You drive Gavin to school every day on foot?" ask Alvaro.

"Yes, Sir. Actually, if the shortcut is quite close. But, it can't be passed by the vehicle."

The contract occupied by Flora and Gavin is located in a dense residential area not far from schools and offices. Only, the main road must rotate so that it seems far away.

"Why did you choose to raise your own child? In this country it is difficult to accept circumstances like yours. You saw your son bully his friend earlier."

"Do you want to marry me?" sahut Flora's.

"What?" Alvaro was stunned to hear Flora's words. He glanced at the rear view mirror, fortunately Gavin was asleep.

"You seem to suddenly care about my personal life. So, do you want to take responsibility for my life?" flora Fishing.

Alvaro chuckled softly hearing the bravery of the woman beside him speak. "When are you ready to marry me?" he asked half a joke.

Flora did not expect Alvaro to respond that way.

"I suggest you don't have to care too much about our lives. You will trouble yourself later. Moreover, you also have a child and wife. I just don't feel good about myself."

Flora's words so pierced to the heart. Alvaro had forgotten he was married.

"Sometimes I wonder about you. You used to not really like bullying me? Giving outrageous jokes and calling with derisive nicknames. When you found out my son was bullied, why did you suddenly want to be his hero?" flora.

Again, Flora's words are very interesting. It's like it's being completely insinuated. "You still have a grudge? That's the past, '" he said.

"Oh, huh? A past? It looks like it's still going on until now" Flora said. "If I hadn't been sick like this, surely you wouldn't have stopped giving me a lot of work" he said.

"How dare you insinuate me so blatantly? Aren't you afraid I'm fired?" ask Alvaro. He brought his power to scare Flora.

"I told you, go ahead if you want to fire me" Flora said casually.

Alvaro astonished Flora now that there was no fear of her. Back in High School, Flora always tried to escape every time she approached.

He grins. "It's not that easy. You'll be too happy if I fire. Get well soon so I can torture you again with a job at the office" he said.

Flora rolled her lazy eyes.

Alvaro is eager to reveal the real reason why he used to be so fond of bothering Flora. However, the woman seemed to have gotten too tired let alone experienced unexpected events at the project site.

Moments later, Flora tells Alvaro to stop his car in front of the fork. He said to reach his contract can not be passed by the car. Finally they walked through a small alley. Alvaro holds Gavin who just woke up.

"Where's your house?" ask Alvaro confused.

Gavin just smiled at their closeness. In the little boy's mind, it would be complete if they became one family. Gavin wanted a father.

"You guys live here?" ask Alvaro.

He was stunned to see Flora's residence. Located in a narrow alley that can not even be passed by a car. The house also looks small maybe only the size of the building where the security guard in his house. To him it was just a hut.

"Yes. This is my contracted home" Flora said as she opened her door. "Gavin, get down, honey. We've arrived" Flora said.

Instead of going down immediately, the boy was even more attached to Alvaro. Gavin hugged her tightly.

"Gavin," call Flora.

"I still want to be with Papa!" said the boy innocently.

Flora and Alvaro were both dumbfounded.

"Gavin can't be like that. Om wants to go home first, later tonight," pinta Flora with a soft tone.

"No want! He said Om Ganteng wanted to be Papa Gavin one day. It's not a day yet. Gavin still wants Papa!"

Flora and Alvaro looked at each other.

"Well then, Papa will take Gavin inside." Alvaro.

Flora helplessly forbade it. He let Alvaro bring his son into the house. Gavin looks very happy.

"Gavin, you take a shower, yeah!" pinta Flora's.

Gavin still doesn't want to get off Alvaro's sling. "Why don't you go, if Gavin takes a shower?" tanyakanya.

That kid is very smart. He does not want to be left behind when he is careless.

"You're afraid Papa's gone?" ask Alvaro.

"Yes, today was fun. It's the first time I've had Papa."

Gavin's words touched Alvaro. "Well, Papa will stay here until you finish your bath" he said.

Gavin. "No! Papa has to be with me until we have dinner. Mama's cooking is so good."

"Okay, take a shower quietly. Papa's not going anywhere" Alvaro assured.

Then Gavin wanted to get down from Alvaro's sling and run to the room.

"You can go home now, sir. Gavin's mummy was in the shower" Flora said.

"Can't!" exclaim Gavin. He was still peering out from behind the door.

Flora patted her forehead. "He's very stubborn indeed" he murmured. He did not expect his son to still peek there.

Alvaro just laughed. "Gavin, shower! Papa promised not to go" he said to reassure. Finally Gavin really wanted to go into the bathroom.

"Uh, it's very hot" said Alvaro, shaking his hand. He also took off the coat he was wearing.

"Please sit down, sir. Let me get you a fan!" flora said as she ran inside.

Alvaro sat on the living room sofa. The house really looks small. It is not even equipped with AC and feels very hot.

"Why can they stand to live in a place like this" he murmured.
