See you, David. See you in my hometown. See you memories engraved with me. I'll be back again. Sure.
David's last hug still felt warm in my chest as I sat in the plane seat.
Ever since my parents died, I've been used to living alone. No different from me now living alone as well. But the loneliness I felt this time felt even more profound. It was as if I was living on an alien planet whose inhabitants are all aliens who do not understand my language, and vice versa. Culture and habits are different. Living in a new place is like having to start all over again.
Afraid?
Probably scared. Also nervous. I don't know what I'll find at the end of this road. Who are the new faces who will be my friend or perhaps best friend? I looked out the plane window. The plane hasn't taken off at the moment, but I've felt far away. The engine crunches of the plane couldn't hide my heartbeat.
I turned my attention to the other passengers. The passenger seat seems to be fully filled. There are still some passengers who are still looking for their seat number. The seat next to me was empty.
David had intended to buy me a business-class plane ticket to make me more comfortable. Before that, I would've told Katrine if I didn't want to go to business class. Initially David insisted that eventually there was a debate for several hours. Katrine who became the mediator finally suggested to take Premium Economy class whose seat is quite comfortable. The distance of the seat with a seat in front is quite a throw to raise the footrest. The number of seats on the right left side of the aircraft is only two seats. Unlike economic classes, each side has three seats. Most importantly, the price is not too far with the economy class. David finally gave up. Katrine and I breathed a sigh of relief together.
The seat is as comfortable as Katrine explains. Only two seats in rows on each side. There's only five minutes left for the plane to take off, but the seat next to me is empty. The plane seat may not always be full.
Or maybe David deliberately bought two seats so that the seat next to me was empty? No no, it's not possible. As for how rich and full David's status was, there was no way I could set the seat next to me empty. Two minutes passed, I sent David a final message before switching to airplane mode.
'See you later after landing. Love you.'
A few seconds later, a reply was received from David.
'Must! Love you too.'
I activated airplane mode then opened the offline game app to fill the boredom. In that instant, a person with a gasp of breath came and stuffed his suitcase in the upper trunk and filled the seat next to me.
"I'm sorry, I was in the wrong waiting room" he said apologizing to me because our eyes met.
"It's okay. Good thing you are hunting." I replied politely
"I was Zoom when my name came out. Even the zoom participant who listens if my name is being called" he said with a laugh. "As a result, I ran to the side of my shoes left somewhere."
He stuck out his legs with only brown socks and as a result I couldn't help but laugh.
"Sorry, how could that be? Just this time Cinderella's a man." My throat's spinning.
The person I laugh at is not offended. Instead the follow-up added a joke and we laughed until the flight attendant sister asked us to fix the seat because the plane was about to take off.
The cute guy next to me is not only good at telling funny stories, but he also has a witty look. His face was plain with round gold frame glasses and bangy hair that was wet from sweat. He was wearing a white shirt and a brown tie. Although he looks disheveled because he ran out, but his shirt is still neatly embedded in his cropped pants.
I'm guessing he's probably in his thirties, then he could be about the same age as David or a little older. Because I could see the fine lines at the end of her eyes when she laughed earlier. David is not there. But I'm not sure either, because David rarely laughs.
I opened the photo gallery on my phone and looked for a picture of David laughing or smiling and zoomed into the eye area to see if David had a fine line.
"Your boyfriend?" tanyanya while wiping the sweat with a handkerchief.
"Yes" I replied awkwardly, closing my mobile gallery.
The man pulled out a book from a tote bag containing a laptop and several other books. I saw the title of his book Educational Management. I wondered why he was reading a college book? Is he a student too?
Curiosity makes my attention can not be distracted from him. He reads, writes on sticky notes and then sticks them to the pages of the book. He was like an exemplary student who was studying hard to face the test.
As he watched, he turned his head and immediately found that I was watching him.
"I'm sorry, I'm too absorbed in my work. Are you disturbed?" ask him politely while fixing the position of his glasses.
"Not really. I'm the one who should be apologizing for being too pampered with what you did."
"You teach?" Honestly, I was amazed.
"Oh yeah, sorry I haven't introduced myself. My name is Gilbert, a lecturer at one of the universities in the city that we're going to." he asked me to shake hands and of course his hands immediately I quickly reached.
Very polite lecturer. Though it should not also introduce yourself to the person who happens to be sitting next to him who kepo with his activities. He apologized for not introducing himself. The next second I felt guilty for not introducing myself as well.
"I'm Amelia. I'm a tansfer student."
"It turns out you're a student. What college did you enroll in?"
I mentioned the name of the campus to her and her eyes immediately sparkled with her mouth open in astonishment.
"Wahh what a coincidence. I've been teaching there for five years." she clapped her hand once and grabbed the tote bag that was put down and picked up a thick book and showed me the last page.
"See this is my biography."
Before reading his biography, I saw a photo on the page that was quite similar to him. In the photo, his hair is neatly combed back and does not wear glasses. More handsome and seems wise. It turns out that hair and glasses can affect a lot of the image of a person.
Gilbert Raka, SE, M. Acc was born on 9-9-1989, the only child of Riani's mother and Ayahanda Berdinand. Currently the author is teaching at several universities with different courses. The author has just completed his post-graduate studies at Holmes Institute, Australia with a Master of Professional Accounting major. The author is also preparing to continue his Doctoral program at one of the best universities in the country.
I closed my mouth and read the writing before my eyes. I returned the book while holding my breath. The one who received even a innocent smile.
"Sir." call me spontaneous while looking down a little.
"Suddenly call father?" he laughed until his eyes stayed in line.
"I'm most likely a student."
"It's not a possibility, but it's a certainty." and then laugh again.
Are all smart people weird?
"Why did you transfer?" suddenly the mood turned serious.
"Ehm.. Um.. Because of one or two things, I'm on leave at the old university. Then finally decided to continue at the University where you teach."
"That's not the answer I want to hear." she asked.
His eyes glittered behind his glasses reflected off my awkward-looking face.
"Ehm.. There's something I don't want to answer, sir. Because it's too personal and long." I replied as seriously as he was.
"Have you moved because of a case at a former university? You're a bad boy?" tanyu is suspicious
"Ooo.. No, sir. That's not why I moved."
"Then there's nothing more difficult to say. Our trip is still three hours. Can your story be longer than three hours?"
I snorted in my heart. Should I answer the question? If I don't answer, will he make it harder as long as I'm in college?
Finally I just told you that I was in about dating by David's father. Then I was asked to complete my studies as a condition for continuing my relationship with David.
"The wise father" he said. "Thank you for being honest."
Are all smart people weird and annoying?
