The announcement of the midterm exam results has been posted on the campus website. Della and I were still sitting at their study desks in the room facing our laptops. The campus portal is already plastered on the screen, NIM and password have been typed without any errors one letter or number, before pressing the enter button, we had a few seconds look at the scene in a mute.
After pressing a moment, Della and I did not let go of our gaze on the laptop screen for a few minutes.
"Lia Lia's.. I got five A's and two B's." Della wagged her hand asking me to announce my worth.
"I'm four A, three B." I pouted and threw my back on the chair with a sigh.
Della jumped out of her chair and saw my grades. "If Sir Yudha and Miss Desy love B I am not surprised. But how did Pak Gil like you value B anyway? Isn't it about the same training we do? You got it wrong, right? Nook. No.. We also match our answers as soon as we finish the exam yesterday. Our answer is the same, right?"
"Of course, there may be a personal vendetta."
"meaning? What personal revenge?"
I glanced at Della briefly before getting up and throwing myself into bed. Although my friendship with Della is quite close, but I don't think it's necessary to also tell her about Mr. Gil. Della is also one of Pak Gil's fans. If only I had said Mr. Gil was a psychopath, I might have been an enemy. I don't want to risk being rocked by Pak Gil's fans.
"Because I often video call in class." I said reason.
"The hell just because of that? But yeah, maybe Mr. Gil was offended to feel you didn't hear his class seriously."
My heart was slightly pierced hearing Della criticize me indirectly. But I still nodded even though it should be Mr. Gil who should be criticized. Covering the ugliness of others with self-deprecation is really not what I should be doing. I have to ask Mr. Gil directly.
It is not difficult to meet Gil. I just had a stomachache at lunch and pretended to read a book in the library. As I expected, the person I was expecting appeared five minutes after I sat at the very end of the table. I deliberately took the last table because this place was empty more often. It's possible that Gil saw me alone and would approach me. But this time my guess is dashed. Mr. Gil took a seat at the middle table joined by the class brothers who are also hard-line fans of Pak Gil.
I became a little agitated because my plan did not go smoothly. I also didn't dare to join the table for permission to talk to Mr. Gil. I finally abandoned my intention to speak to Mr. Gil.
When I returned to the cafeteria, it turned out that Della was still there sitting at a table with some BEM members. Della is also a member of BEM. Della is different from me, she likes to follow organizations. Even he has applied to become a committee at the end of the semester. I want the days to pass quietly. Maybe the days I had gone through were already quite choppy, so right now I only craved a gentle breeze.
I waved at Della as our eyes passed, immediately she lifted the bag from the seat next to her as a sign I could join them. I pointed towards the food stand as a code that I would take food first. Della understood and immediately made a mark ok.
The conversation with the BEM class brothers made me a little uneasy. Although they were half-joking, but I managed to feel offended. Nothing else is about David. They ask me if I'm a sugar baby? Am I related to a married man? I know that Della feels guilty for telling them that I'm dating David who's an established man with a age well above mine.
"I'm sorry, Lia. I told you that you have a boyfriend because Brother Zio said he likes you. I don't want you to be disturbed because in pursuit of Brother Zio, so I told them that you already have a boyfriend. I swear, I didn't tell you your bad or David's brother. I'm just saying that David's brother is handsome and well-established, a CEO at the company. Next they interpret themselves."
Della explained frantically while walking towards the dormitory. I'm not really mad at Della. It's just that I was angry at the response of the BEM Brothers who made their own interpretation.
"Good job, Del. I'm not mad at you. Just pissed at them." I suddenly stopped to look Della in the eye if I really wasn't mad at her.
"Aren't you mad, are you, Lia? I was scared to see your expression."
In the first-floor building of the dorm, Della and I took one of the seats on a long table and started summarizing the lesson notes today and doing assignments. A few classmates who had just arrived at the dorm joined us. David called half an hour later.
"Students are also part of college, Dave." I told him who just got home. I observed him on the screen how he threw his tired body on the sofa.
"Yes, you mean enjoy it you don't have to be too stressed with value affairs. You must have missed lunch a lot, right?"
I was stunned to hear his question. How could he guess?
"I'm kurusan huh?" ask me later
"much. Look at the cheeks of the deflated granny." God. I pinched my chubby cheek and sneered.
That's how the middle of the semester went by. The Final Semester Trials also involuntarily approached very quickly. It was as if I had been passing through space time for several months. Me, Della and a few classmates had naturally created their own study group. Sometimes five people sometimes seven people. We all have the same target. The scholarship.
The Semester exam has ended, which means off-campus activities are in sight. Della was busy attending meetings to organize those activities which meant that I was more alone.
The campus cafeteria closed faster because the lecture was already off, only lecturers and employees along with some students who guidance or follow-up exams are still on campus. I've just come from the faculty office to hand over my presentation before the revised exam to Mr. Kennedy. Having no purpose, I chose to return to the dormitory.
I took the road from behind the campus, past the parking lot to get out the back door. I greet Mr. Ngadino who is in charge of maintaining the order of the parking lot and reply with a friendly smile.
It is very comfortable, quiet and safe. Today's weather is also nice, not hot and not raining. The blue sky is covered by white clouds that occasionally move through the sun, then overtake other clouds as if playing with residents under the sky.
I heard a horn coming from behind me, I jumped to the side looking back. The car was moving next to me with the window glass open.
Mr. Gil.
"Lia, where are you going?" ask her behind the wheel.
"You go back to the dorm, sir." I stopped.
"Well, come back to the dorm? Come with me." take him without further ado
"Sir, thank you." I refused to step straight away to escape from him.
"I'm going to the bookstore. Maybe I can recommend a book for next semester." The car moved slowly in my footsteps.
But my steps stopped again after hearing the bookstore. There are some books I want to buy. But if it's just the two with Mr Gil, is it worth it?
"Look, I can't linger stopping here." he insisted.
Whether because of the urge or desire to go to the bookstore made my hand open the car door, the foot stepped in and sat steadily beside Mr. Gil who was smiling satisfied with showing off his rows of teeth. I quickly turned my eyes to the streets, eliminating the bad possibilities that ran through my brain.
