Harry now chose to keep a little distance on Toushiro. Not because he was hurt, but because of shame. He did not know the whole story of the shinigami life. None, not even two of them were in the same dormitory as him. Both Ichigo and Toushiro are not the kind of people who tell stories about their lives. Even as long as he knows both of them – includes knowing about their real identity – not once do they mention anything profound about their personal lives. And what Ichigo told me was only small fragments that are not how – plus he knew that Ichigo is not a good storyteller – and he also thought it better not to know. Wh why? He had a feeling that the details of his story would be more gruesome than he thought. Sometimes, certain things are better not to be known, because that is the best.
Much to Harry's surprise, both Ichigo and Toushiro became one of the few children to emerge at Hog's Head on a visit to Hogsmeade on a cold but sunny weekend. The two of them seemed not to like the seedy, dusty atmosphere of the bar, including the faint smell of goats in the air, but they were sitting between Neville and Luna, waiting for all the invited children to come together.
"I don't think you're coming" said Ron hesitantly, while Harry let out an indistinct voice that sounded like I thought - too - so.
Ichigo shrugged, then said in a calm tone, "You're right about nothing Umbridge gave you. So, here we are."
With Toushiro nodding, it meant the similarity of the two shinigami's views. But Harry had a hunch that there was another reason why they joined the Plan-study-Defense Lessons on the Dark Arts-without-Umbridge. Well, that can be found later.
And finally, a total of thirty Hogwarts student heads interested in the plan gathered in the rundown drinking house, with each child holding his own Butterbeer bottle – except Toushiro who is not so fond of the drink that one. They sat around the table where Harry, Ron, and Hermione sat, waiting for the meeting to begin.
"You want to pass OWL Defense against the Dark Arts as well of course" said Michael Corner, after the brief opening of Hermione.
"Of course" said Hermione immediately. "But more than that, I want to be duly trained in defense because.." he took a deep breath and ended his sentence, "Lord Voldemort is back."
As expected, the reaction of the young witches was like an old woman finding a mouse in her wardrobe. One of Ravenclaw's girls spilled her butterbeer in shock, Lavender suffocated in horror, Neville turned her fear into a strange cough, the rest just beaming in horror, except Harry, Toushiro, and Ichigo of course, the rest were just beaming in horror, which of the last two names exchanged glances, a sign of similarity of thought; the fear of the name was truly pitiful.
"You don't need to be afraid of the name," said Toushiro flatly, but surprised them. Now attention is on the white hair. "Calling his name won't make him come here."
"At least show your respect to You-Know-Who, that's if he does come back" Zacharias said fiercely.
"That's no respect for your enemy" Ichigo said, frowning. "That's fear. It makes your enemy feel like he has a chance and power over you, capitalizing on your fear of him, so he knows no one is against him."
Silent moment.
"And if you don't believe that he's back," said Harry, looking straight at the blond Huflepuff, "I saw for myself how he came back. I'm not telling you exactly how, because I'm not gonna waste my time convincing anyone."
"Kukira," said Toushiro quietly, in Japanese, as the meeting returned to discuss the lesson plan, but they instead argued about unimportant matters such as the Minister of Magic who had a private army, "just the commander meeting alone was boring, with insignificant arguments like the old man was also here."
Ichigo nyegir heard the tiny shinigami comment. "Well, yeah."
"… Well, the other thing we need to decide is where we will meet." said Hermione, followed by the residence of all the children. This seems like a pretty weird problem. It is not easy to find a room in the castle without Umbridge knowing.
"Library?" katie's proposal.
"Madam Pince will definitely nag" said Harry.
"Used class?"said Dean.
"Still at risk. What if Umbridge just pops up, with Filch and Mrs Norris hanging around anyway" Lee said.
"Right," Hermione seemed to think for a moment. "Well, we'll find a place later, and we'll tell you later too." He then searched for something in his bag and took out a piece of parchment and a quill pen. He looked worried, as if bracing himself to say something. "I think all should write names, so that we know who is present. But I would also argue that anyone present here did not convey what we are doing right now, to Umbridge, especially."
Fred grabs the parchment cheerfully and scribbles his signature. Some of the children looked somewhat doubtful; harry saw Toushiro staring at the parchment suspiciously. And finally, even with the doubts caught on almost every face, they still put their signatures. Harry thrust the parchment at Ichigo, who stared for a moment at all the names. Raising his shoulders, Ichigo took out a quill pen and crossed out his signature, in kanji.
"Wow, that's cool" Fred commented, grinning.
"It's nothing at all" Ichigo said kalem, giving Toushiro parchment and quill pens. "My name is simple."
"'Ichi' means one, and 'go' means five, right?" chirps Luna.
"Fifteen? You were born on the fifteenth?" ask Ernie Macmillan.
"Ichigo also means strawberry" said Cho Chang, smiling. "It's usually for girls' names, isn't it."
Soon Fred and George put on very wide expressions of satisfaction; some of the children giggled with amusement, while Ichigo turned away in annoyance.
"That's not what it means" Ichigo said. He is almost tired of explaining the meaning of his name, but, rather than misunderstanding can damage self-esteem, he said! "'Ichi' means one, or first, referring to me being the first child. And 'go' is old Japanese, meaning he's the one who protects."
Fred was complimenting.
"It means cool" said George. "But strawberries are sweeter! Ha!"
"Japanese parents usually do name their children with something of a special meaning, or their expectations," Cho said, telling friends.
"You're Japanese too?" ask Ichigo. "From your name. Cho, it means butterfly."
"Yes" said Cho, smiling. "My mother from Japan, my father is of Chinese descent."
"What about your name, Toushiro?" ask Neville to know.
Toushiro was still looking at the parchment. But then he grabbed the black quill pen and smeared his name, also in kanji, in a swift, fluid motion, though the name is longer with six characters that are more complicated than the kanji in the name.
"If it's not wrong, 'shiro' means white, '" Cho said.
"Suit well then," said George, pointing at Toushiro's white hair while grinning.
"Come on," said Ichigo, thinking for a moment. "If the letters are separated, the meaning of the name becomes strange…"
"It's not that important," said Toushiro flatly, putting the name-meaning talk to a halt.
"Well, time goes on" Fred said, ignoring the odd atmosphere as if they had just signed an important contract. "George, Lee, and I had to buy something rather sensitive. I'll see you again."
After one by one the boys left, leaving behind the Golden Trio and the shinigami duo, the last of them to leave Hog's Head, along the quiet streets of Hogsmeade. Harry hurriedly took his place beside Ron as Toushiro moved closer to Hermione.
"Good action, you're bouncing the parchment, '" he said in a low voice.
"Eh?" Harry and Ron looked at Hermione, who looked surprised as well.
"How did you know?" hermione asked worriedly, her face blushing.
"You know who I am" said Toushiro flatly. "I can feel the magic energy on that parchment. So, tell me, what spell do you use?"
"It's just a precaution" Hermione said immediately. "Not dangerous, really. But it would be a lesson if any of them betrayed us and leaked it to Umbridge."
"So it's okay if I tell Urahara," said Toushiro kalem. Ichigo grinned at that, while Hermione nodded with a flushed face.
"Yeah. But why did you tell him?"
"And you think Dumbledore doesn't know?" ichigo said, surprising the three. "Well, he expected it to be more precise and faster than you can think, even without us telling him. Well, see you later."
The Golden Trio looked at the backs of Ichigo and Toushiro who were moving away from them, leaving the beautiful Hogsmeade Village in the sunset. Now Harry knows why the two 'transfer students' joined them. The two intend to keep an eye on Harry who incidentally is the focus of their task.
Harry took a breath. Dumbledore inexplicably refuses to meet him, replacing his 'role' through two shinigami, an existence he never imagined existed before. He doesn't know if he should be happy or feeling sad.
