Gryffindor House celebrated their victory over the next few days. Ron, especially, was very happy with himself, who managed to catch the Quaffle in that last game. Harry could not bear to mess with his friend's mood by telling about Grawp. However, his promise to Hagrid must be kept. Ron's reaction was exactly what he had expected. Ron was just as shocked as his two friends when he saw for himself what Grawp was like by Hagrid. They, at the moment, can only hope that Hagrid is not sacked, given that he has managed to survive so far.
After all, there were already many other things Harry had to think about. The most important one is the OWL test. Teachers now no longer give PR, but that doesn't mean it's the end for everything. Lessons turned into the practice area of magic spells – for Transfiguration and Spells, especially, because PTIH was not at all allowed to use a magic wand. They are always reminded to learn as hard and skillful as they can if they want to graduate with satisfactory grades.
Interspersed with the heated pre-examination situation, the illegal market for the sale of drugs and brain stimulant potions is widely circulated among fifth grade OWL and seventh grade NEWT exam students. Toushiro was made to shake his head when he saw Hermione collecting the illegal items in the Gryffindor recreation room, accompanied by the long-serving gazes of several children, including Harry and Ron.
"… come on 'Mione," said Ron, "give me that Elixir of Baruffio's Brain…"
"You guys just drink this dragon claw powder," said Toushiro lowered his head on the small glass bottle, then poured some of its contents into his palm, examining it seriously.
"Eh? Really?" ron asked excitedly.
"Don't****," said Hermione. "Not one of these things works, you know!"
"The dragon claw is potent!" exclaim Ron.
"Akan," Toushiro's correction, while he heard clearly how Hyourinmaru laughed in his mind, made him also have to refrain from following his zanpakutou spirit. "It's not dragon claw powder, but dry Doxy manure. And," Toushiro took the bottle of Baruffio in Hermione's hand, frowning as he smelled its contents. "who is the person**** who included the mixture of Butterbeer, Stinksap, and Murtlap pickle juice here?"
Ichigo was the one who laughed out loud. Obviously this lowers the interest of all children about existing brain stimulants.
"If you want to pass the test, study is diligent," said Ichigo sok advising, still grinning.
"What? You just calm down so," said Parvati.
Because I don't need this ridiculous OWL certificate Ichigo said in his heart. "What you will get on the test is different from what you face in the real world. We'll go back to Japan after this."
"Eh?" Neville looked at Ichigo and Toushiro alternately, looking startled, like the other children. "You didn't stay until you graduated at Hogwarts?"
Harry swore to see the corner of Toushiro's lips lifted for a split second. "No, Longbottom. Remember, Shinou Academy only has six years of study. If we pass faster, why did we choose the old one?"
"So that's why you guys didn't go to a Career Consultation with McGonagall?" ask Lee Jordan.
Toushiro nodded in confirming.
"Then how are you going in the future? Is there a system like the one set up by the Ministry of Magic?" dean asked to know.
"Of course there is. But believe me, it's a lot different to England. Their ways are not perfect; they are a little more rigid and uphold balance and stability. And I thought maybe join the military…"
"You? In military?" ask Seamus in amazement.
The Golden Trio exchanged a meaningful glance. Toushiro Hitsugaya is already a commander.
"Isn't it better than sitting under the supervision of a Minister of Magic like Fudge?" said Ichigo. The kids agreed. And, the conversation begins again, or, more appropriately called learning begins again.
"Hey, Ichigo."
The tall orange-haired man looked up at Hermione who called out to him. The girl obliterated all the illegal drugs with a light swing of her magic wand, then glanced at a glance to make sure no one stole the listen.
"What's wrong?" ask Ichigo.
"I remember you once said that you were a substitute shinigami. That means you're not directly involved in er's business…"
"Soul Society, yeah. I only served in the Human World. My job as a Substitute is only a side to my human life."
"Then, after you graduate High School, what are you gonna do?" ask Hermione.
Ichigo closed the book, then thought for a moment. "I've been thinking about it for a long time.I don't think I can just be a shinigami, as long as I'm still human. Well, and I told my dad, and he agreed that I was going to college in Tokyo."
"Oh, so have you chosen a place?" ask Toushiro.
"Yep. Todai*) my top choice."
"What school do you want to study?" ask Hermione enthusiastically.
Ichigo blinked quickly. He scratched the back of his head. "Well, my first option is Architecture. The building's design, Ron," Ichigo added, seeing Ron's confusion. "But after I thought I destroyed more buildings than I built them. So just drop. And now, I've steadily taken up Medicine."
"You want to be a doctor? A wacky muggle who dismembered people?" chirps Ron.
Ichigo chuckles amusedly. "Of course not, Ron. Cutting people's bodies isn't a doctor's specific job! Healing people, that's the point. But I think the crazy part is true that the doctor is my father…"
"Oh! Your father's a doctor, right?" ask Hermione.
Ichigo nodded. "He opened a small clinic at home. He was the first to encourage me to go into medicine, continue the family business, he said." Ichigo grunting. "The clinic is big. If Ishida's really a family business, his father's the one with the hospital!"
"Then, how are you getting ready for university?" ask Hermione again.
"Ah, about that, it can be arranged," Ichigo said. He entrusted Kon to follow all his academic activities in Karakura. A little bit of a cheat anyway. But this is the only thing to make Ichigo Kurosaki's two different places to deal with two different things.
Let Kon take care of his High School life, and he takes care of OWL's exam at Hogwarts. And, he is really grateful that Toushiro is his mission partner – even though he is not sure Toushiro feels the same way. That genius was truly a favourable favor. Toushiro, who has mastered all the magic lessons on five levels (Ichigo is always amazed at the IQ ability of the white hair) willingly teaches him. More like a fierce boss, indeed. But Ichigo is self-conscious that he is not the type of person who can be taught gently, let alone be like Umbridge. After all, instead of being rote-based, Toushiro practiced more direct magic spells to make Ichigo easier to understand. Especially for the most boring lesson, namely History of Magic, Toushiro kindly illustrates some important events that are predicted to appear in the exam and explain them to his friends. At least this is more helpful than relying on the recollections of Binns lectures in class.
Finally, the week of exams arrived. Execution day to test the memory of the students against all the subject matter that has been taught. During breakfast on the morning of the first exam, the atmosphere of the Great Hall was as silent as a funeral. All the children ate in silence, mostly reading books and or practicing magic spells with unusually nervous faces. Ichigo and Toushiro, who became two children who were unofficially crowned as student-at-next-relaxed-face-examining just watching the phenomenon.
And, after breakfast, all the fifth and seventh grade students gathered in the Front Hall to carry out the examination. Half-past ten is the schedule for the fifth grade of Gryffindor, the Mantra exam. And almost all the children entered the Great Hall which had been arranged into an examination room with a look like serving the duel of Kenpachi Zaraki.
Over the next few days, what became routine for Ichigo's classmates was learning, practicing, with eating and sleeping was his interlude. They do written exams in the morning and practice after lunch. Overall, Ichigo thinks he carries out his exam – both written and – practice quite well. He was sure that there were some answers on his answer sheet that were a bit inconsequential, but it was no big deal. The exam was much easier, he said. It may be true that Toushiro is the type of person who learns by direct action; being set an example and directly applied is the favorite method of white hair to teach him.
If anything was a little complicated, it was the Ancient Rune exam. The game-translating nail letters was not his main skill. He could only stare in envy at Toushiro who wrote his answer smoothly and finished it the fastest, just like he did on the other exams. Ichigo is convinced that Toushiro is using his old spirit life to learn many things, including many languages. If only he had that genius brain…
Not felt (actually felt, but none of the students wanted to remember the suffering of the test) the week of the exam was nearing its end. There are only two practical exams, the Japanese Classical Defense Method this afternoon and Astronomy in the evening, as well as the History of Magic exam the next morning. All fifth graders rather – very, actually – nervous and anxious as they descend the front steps towards the Quidditch field wearing their respective kimonos. The old examiners, who were acting as supervisors, all seemed rather astonished at the appearance of the fifth graders that afternoon. Urahara and Yoruichi the black cat stand beside the entrance of the six-meter-high plant – maze wall. They approached the eccentric teacher, whose friendly smile greeted them.
"Come, come, come. Is everything complete?" the kids nodded nervously. "Good, good. Get together here, and I'll give you a brief briefing before I call you in pairs."
"Sorry, Mr. Urahara," interrupted Professor Tofty in a dry voice. "What kind of tests are you planning for these kids? And what are these wooden swords for?"
The children's eyes were fixed on the pile of bokutou lying near the entrance. Urahara laughed a little. "It's a test that will measure their survival ability in the same way – is not exactly the same, indeed, but it's like – as the witch Shinou did. Exams that measure how much their physical strength, knowledge or intelligence, and the ability to work with others. One test, with a variety of challenges that test complex aspects that they will very often find in real life, is right?"
The examiners exchanged meaningful fields.
"Is this safe?" ask Professor Marchbanks loudly.
Urahara smiled widely, making Harry shudder slightly. "Don't worry, don't worry. No one will die from this test. Well, well, the briefing." Urahara faced his students, repeating the delivery of the challenge procedure in the exam as it was in the classroom. Sounds short: get in the maze and find a way out. Along the way there will be obstacles; physical opponents as well as questions aka puzzles. Use magic with a wand, then the value is reduced, if you give up firing red sparks into the air.
"… I will give you the starting points on all of you twenty," Urahara said cheerfully. "That's your starting stock. Successfully handle the challenge you will get ten points; one challenge is worth ten. If it fails, your value is reduced by five, the same as if you used a spell. As for the cooperation aspect I'll assess after you guys exit the maze, got it?"
"Yes, Sensei." Poor kids with low voices.
"Well, as your 'weapons', you can wear this bokutou. One man one, and please take it yourself." The children began to pick up the artificial katana. "Don't be afraid if this bokutou breaks, I've strengthened it with additional spells. Ah, for Kurosaki-san and Hitsugaya-san not to use bokutou," Urahara added immediately as Ichigo and Toushiro would move to retrieve the weapon. Urahara smiled and cast a kidou spell for some reason. A second later a square chest that seemed to be made of light appeared in front of him. That golden light chest contained two original katanas. All the children and the examiners looked at him in amazement. "You two wear this."
Ichigo and Toushiro exchanged looks.
"Er, Professor Urahara, isn't using the original weapon a little dangerous?" sela Professor Marchbanks.
Urahara gave the two katanas to the orange and white hair; the Toushiro katana was a few inches longer than Ichigo. The blond man then looked at the examiners who looked somewhat agitated. "Ah, I plan to test these two children in the same way Shinou did. I've prepared different levels for them; more like a real battle simulation. For details it's better to see for yourself."
"And they need real swords?" malfoy.
"Because only with the original katana, their enemies could be slaughtered," Urahara said calmly, no matter what the faces of some children paled upon hearing the word 'slaughtered'
"Why different?" ask Professor Tofty.
"Because," said Urahara calmly, saying an explanation that he felt had been repeated frequently, "they are on a completely different level to the children of Hogwarts. I need to equate their exams with tests for their classes. And to the two of you," Urahara looked at Ichigo and Toushiro who looked rather bored. "do your best in this exam. Use all abilities; zanjutsu, kidou, hoho, and hakuda, as best you can. And," Urahara finally spoke to all the students, "you all have fifteen minutes to complete this exam. First couple, Justin Finch-Fletchley - Susan Bones."
Thus, at random, Urahara called the couple of fifth graders he had determined to get into the maze. There was not much done by the old examination supervisors, because Urahara, somehow got some computer monitor screen that displayed several points in the maze as his surveillance method. When Hermione asked where she got the Muggle device from, Urahara explained briefly that he had prepared it since his arrival to Hogwarts, doing some magic so that the objects could work in the magic territory in the castle.
Harry was starting to get a little anxious. He trained with Neville for this test. But he felt neither he nor Neville had enough preparation.
And he regretted a little bit not training harder. He and Neville were the last performers before the two transfer students. They faced five ninja-like men who turned out to be only holograms, (the five could only be obliterated with their bokutou sabetan, which they were, unfortunately) they also have to solve three complicated puzzles in order for them to get through the right path. Not only that, they had to be able to get through the traps Urahara had set up, like the walls of a shrub that narrowed so fast that they had to run as fast as they could. Also, they should be able to walk the rope bridge with mud bubbling under them. Not to mention requiring the prowess to pass through four giant axes moving simultaneously near the exit. Unfortunately, they were forced to use the Freezing Spell to pass through. Both knew their value would be reduced because of this. But what can I do. After all, all the other teams also used magic, at least two or three spells.
"That's great" said cheerful Urahara, welcoming Harry and Neville who had just stepped out of the maze with a disheveled look. "I love the way you guys work together to overcome those five fake ninjas; good cooperation. But, honey, at your last challenge using a spell," Urahara smiled, waving his hand originally towards the other children resting near the exit, "like the others. It seems that nothing that no one has yet been able to conquer that one. The two of you," Urahara turned towards Ichigo and Toushiro, "will face the same thing."
"Yes, yes, whatever," Ichigo cuek said. "Can I come in now?"
"Last one," grinned Urahara; Ichigo and Toushiro were ready in front of the entrance of the maze with a very clear calmness. "Ichigo Kurosaki and Toushiro Hitsugaya, come in."
"Hopefully succeed" whispered Neville. The two friends just nodded, and entered into the maze of plants. All of them who were outside the maze immediately turned their heads towards the supervisory monitor.
Ichigo and Toushiro walk in the plant aisle quietly. Nonetheless, for those with good observing abilities, it was very clear that both were vigilant, even though none of them had yet pulled out their respective weapons.
And then, all of a sudden, a huge black creature rushed forward from the bush in the corner in front of them. A three-meter-tall large fox stared at the two transfer disciples with a hungry look, baring its pointed teeth.
"The first challenge," said Urahara cheerfully, did not care about the surprised cries of some girls and the examinees who were very frightened. "Drop the fox without killing it or causing fatal injuries."
"Can they?" ask Harry worriedly. Come on, even the fox is more dangerous than Grawp!
"It should be, dong," said Urahara kalem.
"But…"
"Ah, I expected," between Urahara, looking amused. They all stared at the monitor and gaped in shock. The fox had already been dropped, fell on the ground and could not move with the golden ribbon of light wrapped around the fox's body. It is seen Ichigo and Toushiro walking past the fox, who growls in annoyance at his catcher who dares to tie him up. "The test was a little too easy at first. With the 63rd Bakudou, Sajou Sabaku, the fox could be conquered easily."
Easy ls?
Oh, now all the kids are hoping to master kidou.
In a way, Ichigo and Toushiro's performance is the best in the Japanese Classical Defense Method exam, considering they are indeed in their field. The hologram ninja's opponent is not five, but twenty of his abilities are terrible, they are defeated with several punches and kicks, but with, also sabetan katana used as if they were dancing – is a scary dancing technique, anyway. The katana was also used when a five-meter-tall, minotaur-like monster confronted them at a bend.
"Of course I'm serious," said Urahara kalem, not caring about the shocked expressions of the children and the examinees. "They must defeat the minotaur."
"But killing him is illegal" Profsor Tofty said.
"To be honest," Urahara said, it was still just as calm. "That minotaur is a creature from the Ministry of Magic who had to be executed for assaulting humans some time ago."
Many children gasped in shock at this information.
"Professor Umbridge handed it to me on the grounds of making it a test target for them." Urahara turned his head towards the screen, where Ichigo and Toushiro had already started to put up a fight. "They were meant to be executors"
"They're not going to do that" Neville said in horror.
"Well, I don't know." Urahara stared at the screen while the others looked somewhat frightened right now. Given what happened between Toushiro versus Boggart and the Bloody Baron, it could have been impossible to defeat the minotaur. But, for Urahara, he did not mind Ichigo's or Toushiro's abilities. What he wanted to know was whether the two would want to finish off the minotaur, which in fact was a living creature.
And apparently, both of them chose not to kill the minotaur. Even if the humanoid bull was aggressive and meant to attack, Ichigo and Toushiro compactly put up a fight just to paralyze it. The fight ended after Ichigo outwitted him by becoming the main opponent, while Toushiro moved nimbly to the back of the minotaur and did a binding kidou.
The minoutaur fell down, snorting furiously at his opponent who passed by. The wounds on the big body of the half bull were not strong enough to kill him.
The two transfer students continued their exams smoothly. The intelligence tests they encountered at some point were successfully solved, as well as the puzzle. They did face the more difficult types of questions and physical challenges, but they could overcome – including passing a rope ladder under which was a flame instead of bubbling mud.
In fact, the challenge of the four giant axes was successfully passed easily. They found a way without using a magic wand to overcome it.
"It's good," said Urahara happily, observing the last two students through his monitor. "They knew that in order to avoid the four axes moving at the same time they had to stand right in the middle, because it was the safest area, after making sure they were on the right timing. And, their eyes were sharp enough to see that on the surface of the ax was a handle."
Just then, Ichigo jumps along with an axe that swings, and he successfully holds a handle that escapes all students' sight. The axe swung, carrying Ichigo who calmly jumped across the room, unharmed.
"Well," said Urahara, after Toushiro had also done the same to get to the other side. "Lost the final challenge."
"Eh?"
Many children looked confused.
"Isn't the ax the last challenge?" ask Hannah.
"No" Urahara smiled. "There's a last question at the exit for them."
They all looked at the monitor screen. They could see a question in the brass plaque beside the door of the plant that suddenly transformed into thick steel. It says there:
Hikoboshi and Orihime waited a year
to meet at the crow's bridge
the Gemintang Bimasakti
Their sacrifice is distance and time
What you give
to get through the end
with one of you guys who should stay?
Give me one name
And I'll just open up to that name.
"So only one of them can get through the door?" seamus asked in shock.
"Yep," said Urahara cheerfully. "It's an easy puzzle, but what they're gonna take is the main point."
"But they passed the test together!" hermione said, "why is it that only one can graduate?! That's not fair!"
"Well, well," Urahara flicked his hand. "Test is not just about graduating and not graduating, but how you've learned all along. In life, you may find similar problems. Which one you choose, yourself or others. Can you not be selfish, can you sacrifice, can you let yourself go? Here's lesson. Well, what's their answer?"
All the kids looked at the monitor. Now, they could hear the two were deciding whose name to write.
"You go" said Ichigo.
"No way" said Toushiro.
"You solve all the puzzles, obviously the riddles that this means your name."
"No. You beat up the most, that means you."
"You."
"No, you."
"Damn it! Just write why?!"
"They were fighting." said Ron, between tense and amused.
"Argh! Urahara ****!" yell Ichigo frustrated. "What kind of question is this?!"
"I agree with you, Kurosaki," Toushiro said seriously.
"Hey.." Urahara who heard that clapped his fan against his forehead, looked as if he was injured.
"We'll enter together, then we'll have to finish together!" ichigo said grimly. And, the two exchanged glances, as if exchanging opinions in silence, before nodding at each other, as if a deal had been made.
"Well, well," said Urahara, looking rather interested. "What do you want?"
"Just one name, eh?" ichigo said, his grin seemed rather brash.
"Just write. I agree with you," said Toushiro kalem.
Ichigo took a brush near the plaque, and wrote down a name. They couldn't see it because of the wide back of the orange hair. As soon as Ichigo stepped aside, with Toushiro, towards the door, they could see kanji letters that they could not read. Not with Urahara.
"That's right…"
"The 31st Hadou," cried Ichigo and Toushiro together, directing their palms towards the steel wall, "Shakkahou!"
The steel door exploded with a loud thump that shook the ground. Explosive smoke blocked their view. And, the two students-with-hair-pole stepped out of that broken steel door with sinless faces.
"Ah, glad the exam is over," Ichigo said happily, scratching the back of his non-itchy head. Beside him, Toushiro nodded in agreement.
"You should have written the name, not destroyed the door" Urahara said.
"But you wrote the name." said Neville in a squeaking voice.
"Yes, the answer is 'Ujara***'," said Toushiro flatly, "Are we right?"
"I can't believe you guys said that" Urahara said dramatically. "It should be 'Toushiro Kurosaki', combining your names is the answer…"
"That's not my name" said Toushiro unhappily. "And did you know that 'shiro' and 'kuro' in one name make it sound weird. I think I have a double personality…"
"But Isshin wants you to be his 'second son!" Urahara.
"And you think I want to be a freak like Kurosaki?" reply Toushiro
"You're saying I'm a freak?" ichigo Protest.
"I've said it," said Toushiro flatly.
"Jeez," commented Professor Tofty.
"Ah, that's so funny" chuckled Professor Marchbanks.
"Obviously," said Urahara cheerfully, "the test is over. You'll receive the results with another OWL value." Urahara smiled at his students. "You guys have been trying really hard this year. It makes any teacher – including me – really proud of you guys."
All the students left the Quidditch field after Urahara disbanded them. Everyone was still talking about the most unique test they had just undergone.
"Hey, Ichigo," call Ernie as they ride the front steps.
"Yeah?"
"All you two did was... cool," said Ernie amazed, followed by a mutter agreed the other – except the Slytherin children, of course.
"Well, thanks," said Ichigo grinned.
"But," Ernie looked at Toushiro curiously, "you blew up Boggart easily, and you were with Ichigo to fight the minotaur, but why don't you guys…"
"Killed him?" toushiro flat said. Many children shuddered at the word. "You think we don't know why there's this thing in there? Yes," said Toushiro quickly, "we know. Umbridge wanted us to get rid of the minotaur for him. We're not going to do that dirty work for him. After all, the minotaur is also a living creature, and more importantly, it does nothing harmful to us…"
"He attacked you, didn't he?" chirping Smith.
"The attack was for self-defense" Ichigo said seriously. "He thought we were there to execute him. Let's see for yourself, the minotaur was terrified and attacked uncontrollably…"
"If you don't finish him off, then the Ministry will, right?" harry said grimly.
"I'm sure so." They had already arrived at the Front Hall. "The bad destiny was faced by the minotaur. At the very least, it wasn't us who soiled our hands and weapons with his blood."
Many children are still imagining it. Afterwards, they decided not to discuss this terrible topic.
