Ichigo awakens Toushiro after Draco informs them that the train is about to stop and they must change into their Hogwarts uniform. Toushiro instantly woke up, with a cautious attitude as if someone was attacking him with a sword stuck to his neck.
"Nice reflex," Ichigo grumbled, after Toushiro released a grip on his neck. "But I swear with all my heart I won't kill you, Brother."
"Repaction only"
"Paranoid," cut Ichigo immediately, making Toushiro who had rubbed his eyes with the back of his clenched hand – very similar to a small child – immediately frowned ferociously at him. The innocent impression disappeared, instantly. Fortunately Draco and his cronies were changing clothes in the toilet and did not see the action of the two shinigami. "We have to wear uniforms now. The train's almost there."
"Wait, what did you call me?" toushiro asked with raised eyebrows and sharp narrowed eyes. Danger sign. Ichigo immediately grabbed his robe and exited the compartment, not wanting to be patted again.
Finally, about ten minutes later, the train began to slow down and there was a commotion as the children began to wake up to pick up their suitcases and pets, ready to go down. Draco and Pansy lead his Slytherin friends to come out first because he is the Prefect. The train completely stops, and both Ichigo and Toushiro drag their respective suitcases out of the compartment; Ichigo holds the cage of Miko, their eagle owl.
The rainy summer breeze that night greeted them as they descended the train, following the other Hogwarts children onto the platform. The smell of fresh pine trees that lined up to the lake not far from where it filled the air. Toushiro looks at Harry and Ginny, then turns to Ichigo to follow them, away from the first-class children who gather towards the lake.
They arrived outside the station, along with a large group of other students. There were about a hundred wooden carriages that would take them to the castle. Strange creatures stand between the yoke of the car connector. The creature resembles a horse, with a very distinct reptilian feel. They're skinny and black-haired. Black wings resembling bat wings appeared on their backs, and large, white, and pupilless eyes looked blankly forward while they stood still, standing still, waiting for children who seem indifferent to the presence of the creature.
"What's that?" ichigo asked in astonishment; one of the creatures, closest to him, turned his reptilian head towards the orange hair.
"Thestral, according to his description in Fantastic Animals and Where They Can Be Found, pages one hundred and ninety-four," Toushiro said flatly.
Ichigo looked at Toushiro to find the turquoise's eyes glittering brightly, looking at the odd horse. Really, did the little guy swallow all the magic books they had?
They finally got into one of the cars. A musty old smell of hay filled the dark interior of the carriage. Together they entered three shy second-graders. No one spoke until the carriage moved towards the brightly lit castle.
The train rattled and stopped near the stone steps leading to the oak front door. The second-graders went down first, only the second shinigami. Pulling their luggage and leaving it in the Front Hall like the others, Ichigo and Toushiro looked around for a moment. The Front Hall was lit by torchlight and the footsteps of the disciples who were about to enter the Front Hall. Harry, Ron, and Hermione waved as they passed by.
And then, Professor McGonagall approached them, breaking through the sea of children around them. His eagle-like eyes looked at the two shinigami rather grimly.
"We need to talk before you get into the Great Hall. Come with me."
The two walked following McGonagall away from the bustling and bright Front Hall, to the right corridor of the desolate and gloomy Hall. McGonagall then turned around, looking at them intently.
"So," he said quietly, "you're already at Hogwarts."
"The mission begins," said Toushiro kalem.
"Yes," said McGonagall, looking rather uncomfortable. For him it was rather unbelievable that the two young men in front of him would guard the castle until some time in the future. The two of them were probably much more expert than he had expected, either in guarding or fighting. The latter made him shudder, remembering the first time he met them, with the weapon. Especially, he had a hard time imagining the all-female figure of Toushiro Hitsugaya swinging his katana against the enemy for some reason. "I'm sure you'll know what to do with respect to your mission."
There were footsteps from the corridor under the stairs near them. McGonagall breathed.
"But the first step to being at Hogwarts is selection. You will be selected after the first grade, after the Headmaster introduces you both to the entire school. No more than I could have hoped, wherever your dorm will be you will act like a normal kid."
"Well," Ichigo said calmly, while Toushiro nodded. Acting like a normal child, as long as there is nothing to graze about hair color and height.
"First grade children, Minerva," he said in a stern voice.
McGonagall nodded. "Thank you, Wilhelmina. You can go to the Hall first, then."
The witch nodded. Then, without saying anything else he walked away, entering the Great Hall. McGonagall turned to speak to the first-graders for instructions. Some of them steal glances, curious as well as foreign to Ichigo and Toushiro who look different from the Caucasian characteristics of the British.
And then, McGonagall instructed all of them to follow her, heading towards the Great Hall. Ichigo and Toushiro walk in the back row, through a wide-open oak door.
All eyes were on the line that McGonagall was leading. On the pale, sweaty faces of first-class children who were struck by the light of the candles floating in the air. On the two alien figures who were at the back of the line. Those who knew Ichigo and Toushiro were not too surprised to see the two, who looked calm compared to the children in front of them. But for those who do not know it will surely be astonished and wonder. Moreover, the color of their hair was striking and Ichigo was looming among the small figures of first-class children.
The buzzing of the conversation in the Hall subsided. McGonagall placed a black magician hat that had been dullly eaten by age, patched and scaly in many places with a wide tear near its frayed edge on a three-legged wooden bench in front of the teacher's desk, facing the entire student. For a moment it was only silent while all eyes were directed at the hat. And then the tear near the edge of the hat opened, like a mouth, and he began to sing.
Ichigo looked up at the hat. Toushiro was actually a bit surprised as well, but his reaction was certainly not like Ichigo. He now concentrates on paying attention to the lyrics of the song sung by the Selection Hat. After he finished with his song, boisterous cheers and applause filled the Hall, after a pause of a few seconds. Whispers and murmurs spread throughout the Hall, only to disappear after McGonagall spread a sharp look. McGonagall then lowered her gaze there was parchment in her hand, and called out the first name on the list.
"Abercrombie, Euan."
And one by one, the children in the line were called to be selected. The Sorting Hat will shout out which dormitory the child will be placed in after a moment of silence over their heads. The two shinigami had no idea how the hat could do that, except to think that it was magic. They'll know in a few moments anyway, right.
Finally the last name, Zeller, Rose is selected for Hufflepuff, and Ichigo and Toushiro are the last students to be selected. All eyes were now on the two, who now, according to Harry, looked bored; Ichigo rubbed his eyes sleepily. Dumbledore stood up, after McGonagall had gone to the end of the teacher's desk. The Headmaster's smile greeted the entire Hall. However, before he began to speak, Argus Filch, the school keeper, appeared at the oak door, with a stranger.
Both Ichigo and Toushiro, who had been looking at Dumbledore looking back, felt a reiatsu that was completely familiar to both of them. And the two young shinigami looked at the man with real shock; Ichigo gaped in shock.
The man who was with Filch was tall. Dirty blonde hair should be covered with a wide-brimmed hat with a green-and-white stripe motif. He was wearing a dark green kimono and a black coat. His wooden slippers were clacking as he walked, with a wooden stick in his right hand. It was hard to read his facial expression that was mostly covered in the shadow of his hat, but that odd smile could not be hidden. A golden-eyed black cat perched haughtily on his right shoulder, staring at the entire Hall with a very strange intelligent look.
"I welcome the new teacher to new subjects this year, who is in connection with the arrival of two transfer students from Shinou Academy of Magical Battle Arts, Japan, Professor Kisuke Urahara. He will teach the Japanese Classical Defense Method at Hogwarts."
Silence followed that welcome, just like the arrival of Mad-Eye Moody a year ago. It's just that, according to Harry, the appearance of this new teacher is not as eccentric as Moody. He looked completely normal, except for his clothes and that odd smile.
Dumbledore gave Kisuke a friendly smile, and invited him to come to the teacher's desk to occupy an empty seat next to Snape. While walking past Ichigo and Toushiro who were frozen on the spot, Kisuke greeted them in a friendly voice.
"Ah, Kurosaki-kun, Hitsugaya-kun, genki desu ka?"
Toushiro frowned, while Ichigo still turned his back, answering in a doubtful voice, "Ha-hai,"
Kisuke continued walking towards the teacher's desk quietly, unaffected by all eyes directed at him. Harry saw Umbridge looking at Kisuke suspiciously. But all attention was taken away from him as soon as Dumbledore spoke up.
"Now, it's time for the final selection. Before that, I need to tell you that this is a rare moment at Hogwarts, that this school accepts transfer students from other schools. And although they come from different places, different customs, different cultures, I hope you can accept them well as part of Hogwarts. And wherever the Sorting Hats will place them, I hope the hostel where they will spend time at Hogwarts will treat them like their own friends, family members. These two transfer students will be attending classes for the fifth year of Hogwarts."
Dumbledore sat down. McGonagall stepped forward to the center, next to the Sorting Hat, and called out her first name, "Hitsugaya, Toushiro."
