Bettor Mr. Nobles

Bettor Mr. Nobles
Chapter 39

In the sitting room, Naeva sees Abellard with Mme Aamber and Lady Angelia. Naeva's steps stopped for a moment. This is not the right time to ask Abellard to drop her sentence. The countess would definitely judge herself to like to govern and control Abellard.

But he has to see Abellard now. Imagining an innocent person screaming in pain gets the punishment she deserves, making Naeva unable to buy time.

With courage, he stepped forward.

The eyes of the Countess and Lady Angelia who sat facing Naeva immediately stared angrily and hatefully. It was as if Naeva was a disease that came to plague their lives.

Naeva tried not to look at him. Trying to strengthen his heart and approached Abellard who was sitting behind him.

He must be firm, must be!

"Excuse me, Monsieur Comte. There's something I want to talk to you about."

Abellard seemed to flinch at his voice. The man immediately looked back, "Naeva?" call it. Then get up and ask attentively, "what's up?"

"I'd like to ask for your help, Monsieur Comte," Naeva said bluntly despite her lowered face.

"What help? You're okay, aren't you?" check Abellard with a worried look.

The girl shook her head slowly with a relieved heart. Abellard's attention really made her comfortable. "I'm doing fine. I ... would like to ask you to cancel the sentence against the woman."

"What?!" The surprised question is not from Abellard, but from Lady Angelia. The British noble girl stood up from her soft sofa.

All eyes were staring at Lady Angelia. The girl looked misbehaved for a moment, realizing her shock was too obvious. But then he quickly took control of himself.

"Mlle Gaulle, your request is very strange. How could a criminal have his sentence overturned?" grunts.

Abellard ignored Lady Angelia's words. The focus is back on Naeva.

"Why are you asking that the sentence be annulled? He was the one who had poisoned the food for you, Naeva."

"But I am .. not sure he did. I know his sister. And after hearing about the woman's nature from her sister, I doubt that she was the culprit" Naeva said.

Lady Angelia laughed softly in a mocking tone. "You judge that woman by her own sister's story? I've never heard of such a stupid thought!" cynically.

"What Lady Angelia said was true, Abellard. The servant also confessed his own crime. He even used my name when delivering the food, I will never forgive! Besides, you can't overturn the punishment you've already imposed. It will make your assertiveness underestimated by people." The countess chimed in with an annoyed look. Very upset with the woman his son loved.

"Naeva, are you sure it's not necessarily the woman who did it?" Abellard remains focused only on Naeva. His eyes looked seriously but remained loving.

"I'm sure," Naeva nodded surely.

"Then I'll stop the punishment. But the maid can't stay in this castle until the real culprit is caught."

Abellard's answer really made Mme Aamber and Lady Angelia explode in anger. The two women stood stiffly with eyes glaring at Naeva full of hatred.

Instantly, Naeva's heart seemed to melt. He could only bow to receive the anger of the Countess. I want it to disappear from there.

But then, Abellard's sturdy hand grabbed his hand. Grip tightly and warmly.

"Mere, Naeva didn't mess with my wits. He just reminded me not to be careless in making decisions. If it wasn't the waiter, I'd be the wrong person."

"Otherwise not, Abellard?! The servant has admitted his own guilt!"

"Maybe someone forced him to confess," Abellard glanced at Lady Angelia as she said.

The glance of his eyes did not escape the attention of Mme Aamber. The Countess was really angry to see it.

"You suspect Lady Angelia? Or are you even suspecting Mere?" Mme Aamber shook her head inexhaustibly. "Your brains are completely contaminated, Ma Fils!"

Naeva felt her fingers getting frozen tense in Abellard's grasp. He could only hold his breath with a tense heart.

But then Abellard turned to him with a worried look, it seemed like the man felt his fingers freeze.

"Go back to your room. Let me settle this matter, "he commands gently and seems protective.

Naeva nodded and felt Abellard's hand release her grip slowly.

Without lingering, Naeva immediately left the room. Leaving behind the hateful gazes of the two women who had already considered him toxic.

**

Naeva walked back and forth in her room with a restless heart.

"Are you sure Monsieur Comte will stop his sentence?" ask Marc who knows what's going on.

"I'm sure. But I'm not sure the Countess will let it." Naeva clenched her chest with an anxious look.

"I am also not sure that Monsieur the Count would go against the decision of the Countess. I can see that Monsieur Comte loves his mother very much." Not without reason Marc said that, he was already disappointed in Abellard about the toxic food. He would sincerely let his missus be taken care of by another man, but if the man was truly reliable.

Naeva breathed. Marc's words made him uneasy, though he was actually convinced Abellard would release the servant.

"After all, M'mselle, I feel .. there is a conspiracy behind this matter."

Naeva looked at Marc with a frowning forehead, curious as well as tense. Because he also felt the case was a hidden conspiracy.

"I saw the man who put down the poison. And that woman doesn't look like a waiter."
