Blue Light

Blue Light
SATU

The house stands right on an overdraft of the slope, giving it a classic view of green mountains filled with trees and flowers.

Beside him, lay a mini forest filled with pine and fir trees.

Not far from the forest, Lana could see the farmland which was marked by vegetable crops lined up neatly.

The scenery offered, refreshing the eyes of Lana who was used to seeing the concrete forest is gloomy.

Lana may be satisfied with the scenery that became the background of the house, but the old house building in front of her as if shouting the word 'go' to Lana, she said, because most of the wood that builds it looks old and weathered.

White paint that should stick to the wall, actually peeling and showing pale wood veins behind it.

The house was in the form of a tiny cottage with a triangular roof, typical of beautiful country houses. Lana who has long been interested in architecture, will immediately like such a house, if the house is in a better condition.

The home page is also quite spacious, but unfortunately weeds rule most of the territory. The height of the grass signaled to Lana, that she had to work hard, while cleaning it later.

Not to mention in a rather high corner behind the small house, the garden that should contain vegetable plants, had been filled with dense bushes. Another job is on his list.

Lana knew, with the amount of money she had, she couldn't expect much. The property he bought was indeed in the countryside, but this was no ordinary village.

The village is Grindelwald, located at the foot of the Eiger mountain in Switzerland.

The scenery here is very beautiful, and Grindelwald is one of the favorite tourist destinations of foreign tourists. The property he bought was expensive.

Lana could only afford the dilapidated house, although she had struggled to save for nearly eight years.

Luckily there are still a few thousand dollars left in savings. Because he believes the cost of repairing this house will cost a lot of money.

But he remained grateful, because the roof still looks intact. And it's still July. Lana still had a few months before the air became completely cold when the snow came later.

Lana hopes to survive this place until winter, because she no longer knows where to go if it turns out this place is not in accordance with what she imagined.

No matter what money he had left, after he had done all the repairs to the house, it would not be enough to buy tickets anywhere.

He risked all the property he had on this place, no backup plan.

But Lana's been investigating this place carefully and thoroughly.

He knows the country has the lowest criminal record in the entire world. According to additional data he read for the umpteenth time a few weeks ago, there has been no murder in this village for almost 50 years.

Switzerland has never been involved in a world war. That means there's no war casualties around here. That fact makes Lana dream of a place that can be lived in for a long time.

This place looks like heaven to Lana.

Therefore, since eight years ago, Lana saved very carefully to be able to move and have a house in this area.

Lana saved up almost the entire salary she earned and saved the cost of eating, by eating leftover bread or any food that could be taken home from work.

He only used the money to pay for the rent of the rundown room he was left in, as well as to buy some things that felt very important.

For clothes, he used to pick up the remaining clothes that are still appropriate to wear in the dump. Until now he has never spent a penny to buy clothes, except underwear, because wearing used underwear, will endanger health, if until he contracted an illness.

Her unusual lifestyle requires Lana to always be healthy.

But Lana still limit herself, by buying clothes in the cheapest type, although sometimes the rough material makes her skin blisters. The scuffed skin was not a severe disease, he could still bear it.

According to Lana her appearance still looks fine. He often does not understand, why people can throw clothes that are still appropriate just like that. But-he can't possibly understand the minds of the rich.

During those eight years, Lana moved, more than seventeen times, and repeated the same thing each time. First, he would search for the room with the cheapest rent and most importantly no one had died there before.

Then he would look for a job that would allow him to bring along leftover food. Once upon a time he worked in two places at once, namely the bakery in the morning and at night he worked in the restaurant as a rude labor.

Lana wouldn't have had to spend eight years saving up, if only she could have worked in that city for longer, but she certainly didn't. Lana could only stay in the city for three months.

After the breakup with Beth and Aaron eight years ago, Lana never again tried to get to know anyone more closely.

In the seventeen cities she had been in all this time, Lana only greeted as necessary to her co-workers.

He also never raised his eyes when walking, so there is no need to say hello to anyone. And of course always pretending not to listen, when one of the neighbors tried to be friendly.

At first they were very astonished by her attitude, but after a few days of only being coldly responded to by Lana, they would usually stay away by themselves .

He is more often known as an unfriendly diligent worker, and that is enough.

Lana just has to make sure she won't be fired, so Lana always makes sure all the work she does is done well.

All that hard work paid off now, the house he dreamed of standing before him. Not perfect of course, but it is nothing compared to his struggle so far.

Lana looked up at the sky, and saw that the sun was about to sink. So dragging his big suitcase, he stepped towards the door of the house.

He had to introduce himself to the occupants of the house when night fell. And he had to prepare himself so that they would not be surprised at his existence.

------------0O0----------------------------------0O0----------------------------------------------

Most of the lights in the house were still working, unfortunately the lights inside the main room were off. That means he will have to sleep in the living room later. Better to stay up all night than to sleep in the dark. Lana doesn't like sleeping in the dark.

While tidying up her long hair with her fingers, Lana sat on the rickety sofa in the middle of the room. The sofa was directly curved inward, but due to Lana's meager weight, it held up and did not break.

Lana's body is skinny. Leftover food is not a nutrient that will make anyone fat. Enough to keep him alive, but not in a prime body shape.

Nervously Lana's eyes glanced towards the window. The sun will sink in a few seconds.

Lana closed her eyes tightly, as soon as the sky outside the window was completely dark. He has done this many times, but fear still pervades him.

His hands began to tremble as a chill that was in stark contrast to the outdoor summer approached him. The room was still quiet, but Lana's skin was getting colder and colder.

Slowly, soft whispers began to be caught by his ears. The whisper immediately made his heart race. He was still afraid if they came in large numbers at once, and clearly the whisper signified their number was more than one.

Their voices grew louder, and Lana squeezed the sofa she was sitting on to gather courage. Slowly he opened his eyes.

And Lana was almost crying out of gratitude for the relief. The money is not wasted, he can stay here, they're just the two of them. It's a great start.

The residents of this house look fine and normal.

Normal for the size of the dead of course!

Their bodies looked whole without blood and also gaping wounds.

The figure that was now in front of Lana almost looked like a human in general. It's just that Lana knows they're not living things, because they have unequal body densities.

There is a solid part as usual, but there are some parts that look like a transparent veil. And the transparent part is usually moved around, producing an effect like a hologram that keeps flashing.

He could sometimes see through their bodies, as when he looked over the thin cloth. It was a little difficult to distinguish the colors, but still he could clearly tell what kind of thing was behind their bodies.

Looking at the wrinkles that filled their faces, Lana concluded they died of old age. The way of death that became his favorite.

Ghosts who die of old age usually still have the same traits as when they were alive. Looking from their faces, Lana imagines the two of them are typical ordinary rural citizens, who spend their old age in warm family circles.

Right now, the two of them were looking at him with great interest. Not something extraordinary, Lana could explain it easily.

Every night, his body would emit a faint blue glow that could only be seen by a dead creature.

One of the friendly ghosts she met used to explain to her willingly.

Unlike the other ghosts who refuse to talk about things related to death, Hans kindly explained all the things that became the source of Lana's curiosity.

The blue light emitted by Lana's body attracted the attention of the ghosts.

Because of this, usually the curious ghosts will start following Lana along the thin body they allow. At a certain distance they bounce back to the object or room where they are bound.

Lana knows this, also from Hans.

Patiently he explained that all the ghosts that roam the world, have an attachment to an object. Usually the object of obsession of ghosts is a house or property and also a family.

If the thing that binds them is home, they will not be able to go far around, because the house cannot move.

Those who are attached to humans are a little more fortunate, because they can wander around following the human. The ghost's transparent body could penetrate any wall or obstruction, as long as it was within a certain distance of the object.

And for the couple who were in front of him, it was clear they were tied to this house. As expected.

The couple began to whisper more noisily, discussing the blue light that Lana could not see. They whispered in thick German.

Lana understands of course. During these eight years, he studied German, French and Italian with great perseverance, knowing that the languages spoken in Switzerland were three.

In total there are six languages, including Spanish, Japanese, and he is in the process of learning Russian.

He learned all of this in a self-taught way through books. Lana visits a flea shop to get cheap books and dictionaries.

Not infrequently Lana gets free books from sellers, because she deliberately chose books that have been almost damaged.

With those old books, he managed to master all those languages fluently. It may only be a little stiff in pronunciation because it rarely practices it.

Lana was an intelligent student before she dropped out of school, at the age of fifteen. He falls into the category of smart students favorite of the teachers in the school, before they finally call it crazy.

Lana wasn't always this weird. She was a normal girl who grew up in an ordinary family until she was fourteen years old. His life turned a hundred and eighty degrees after that.

He did not blame anyone who called him crazy, because at first Lana also thought that he was crazy.

But it's all the past, and now Lana already knows the transparent creature she sees is a ghost.

Lana cleared her throat to make them stop whispering to each other.

"Guten tags!" hiss Lana with a trembling voice.

Lana deliberately looked at them right in the face, to give a sign that she did greet him.

They immediately turned their eyes to hear Lana's greeting.

"You can see us?"  a ghost in the form of an old woman darted closer to him.

Lana's body was bristling due to the cold produced by the ghost. He could feel his feet begin to tremble.

Lana replied with a small nod.

"Oh, this is amazing" the male ghost who had just seen, approached him.

The cold now makes Lana shiver, the two ghosts make Lana feel like she's on the road in winter without a coat.

"Oh.pardon us" the old female ghost was apparently very understanding.

He saw Lana's body shaking slowly, so he shifted away while pulling the ghost to follow her.

"We've never seen a human like you, miss. Sorry for making you uncomfortable because of our curiosity." he continued, bowing his head politely.

Lana was once again relieved. He had already met a friendly ghost, but the woman was even very polite.

Haru and happy, because he did not choose the wrong house back to enter his heart. He can survive if they inhabit this house. Hope so!

"My name is Solana, Solana Fayra. Nice to meet you both" Lana greeted kindly.

"Oh. We are Faxon. Aubrey and this is my husband Barnabas" Aubrey excitedly introduced herself.

"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Faxon, Mr. Faxon" Lana politely returned slightly nodding her head.

"No need for that courtesy to us, you can just call me Aubrey, and call him Barnabas"

Aubrey flutters her transparent hands, a sign that she does not like Lana's rigid attitude.

Lana smiled "Of course, thank you. And I'm sorry before, but from today on I'll be occupying this house. I hope you don't mind"

"What can we do if we object?" Second time Barnabas spoke.

Lana becomes aware that she is not as friendly as Aubrey.

"Oh don't mind him. Of course you can stay here. You bought this place, right? It's a pity that none of our grandchildren would want to live here. But I'm glad they got a buyer like you. Imagine you can see and talk to us"

Aubrey immediately told me at length about his family who almost all now live in Bern. There were only two of his grandchildren living in the village, and they already had their own houses. Therefore the building of this house became abandoned.

Lana listened to all of that patiently.

He was not surprised by Aubrey's behavior that told him at length about his life without being asked. Being a ghost also means that no one will hear you speak.

Actually Aubrey was lucky enough that her husband was here, but seeing her silence, Lana guessed Barnabas was not the type to talk a lot, in stark contrast to Aubrey.

The ghost he often met in the rented room, on average stranded there alone.

Sometimes Lana has to listen to their stories all night before they are satisfied and let her sleep. Aubrey's story is still arguably short when compared to theirs.

After several hours of telling the story, Barnabas pulled Aubrey's hand hard. Lana's eyes immediately opened wide upon seeing that movement.

The journey to here is very long. He was very tired, but he kept listening to Aubrey's story. But by midnight, he could barely open his eyes again.

"Dear.I'm sorry, you must be so tired. But I'm even asking you to talk. Go to sleep, we'll talk again tomorrow" Aubrey walked away from Barnabas's hand, when she realized Lana's eyes were already very red from sleepiness.

"Of course Aubrey. We'll talk again tomorrow night" Lana smiled, and as the wave of their hands grew more and more faint, until Lana finally could not see it, because they broke through the wall that separated the room.

With the rest of her energy, Lana pulls out a thick blanket from the suitcase and puts herself as comfortable as possible on that rickety sofa.

The introduction was quite smooth, and because of that, Lana made sure she would sleep well tonight. There is no need to fear Aubrey and Barnabas.

Introductions to the ghosts that inhabit his residence is a routine thing that must be done, if he wants to live quietly.

Lana at first chose not to ignore them, but she could not continue to do so for long.

Small disturbances in the form of their usually abnormal forms, often make Lana aghast and dismantle her pretense.

And of course after his ability is revealed, his life will not calm down.

Hans taught her to be more adventurous, and to explain everything honestly.

But of course this action carries a risk, if the ghost who inhabits his rental room turns out not to be able to accept Lana, he must be prepared to leave. But if Lana was as lucky as she was today, she could calmly stay in that place.

Smiling with relief, Lana closed her eyes and fell asleep.
