بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَإِذَا قَضَى أَمْراً فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ

“Allah is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and if He wills (to create) something, then (enough) He simply says to him: “Be”. Then be it.” (Al-Baqarah, {2}: 117).

If then there must be pain, even excruciating pain, there must be great benefits behind it. There is wisdom behind the pain of childbirth for both the mother and the baby born. Of course, a mother must take good care of her pregnancy, maintain her health and do things that should be done to keep the baby in the womb. This is not to relieve the pain of childbirth, but as a tribute to the trust of Allah Ta’ala in the form of pregnancy.

If the pain of childbirth brings great harm to the baby born with his mother, of course Allah Ta’ala uproot the pain. If the pain of childbirth brings great harm that endangers mother and child, physically and mentally, then we are almost extinct. No one wants to give birth because of the pain. Nothing else can give birth normally due to the trauma of endless labor. Children who are born have a lot of problems.

But no…!

Millions of mothers keep smiling happily just a few seconds after going through the pain. Once the baby is born safely, all the pain seems to have paid off. Their faces were beaming, even in the moment that awaited the delivery still felt tired. It is precisely the magnitude of the pain that makes labor more meaningful. There is a struggle, there is a sacrifice. One reason, the emotional bond between mother and child is formed stronger from the first day, even since the baby has not been born because of the increased fatigue during pregnancy.

If we look at history, the great people in this dien were even born not only with great pain, he said, more than that there is almost unbearable suffering except for those who have a very strong faith. But why should there still be pain and misery that accompanies the birth of Isma’il ‘alaihissalam?

There's a lesson here. There is something that we should reflect on; what we should do with the costs that have been issued by mothers in the form of pain and fatigue that increases during pregnancy to childbirth.

Let us remember for a moment the word of God ‘Azza wa Jalla:

وَوَصَّيْنَا الْإِنسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ إِحْسَاناً حَمَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُ كُرْهاً وَوَضَعَتْهُ كُرْهاً وَحَمْلُهُ وَفِصَالُهُ ثَلَاثُونَ شَهْراً حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ وَبَلَغَ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً قَالَ رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحاً تَرْضَاهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِي

There are no coincidences in this world. Every decree of Allah Ta’ala must contain great goodness in it. As in every commandment of Allah Ta’ala and the sunnah of His apostles there must be glory. It is not goat meat that causes high blood so many Muslims avoid the sunnah of the prophet. But it is our lifestyle that causes us easy disease.

Should women still give birth in pain? Is not the growing number of technologies and methods that are claimed to be able to relieve women from the pain of childbirth?
