Dungeon Hunter
Chapter 40's

BERCY AND BARAMUT

Kang Oh walked to the side of the woman's body.

She had aged gracefully and her face showed a friendly and gentle smile.

'This is...'

A half-moon shaped comb along one's arm glowed on the table.

Kang Oh took the comb.

"Value."

[Comb (for mementos)]

The comb that the witch, Bercy the North Wind, used to brush Baramut's fur.

[Memories stay inside the item. Do you want to see these memories?]

"I'm ready."

Kang Oh rewires Bercy and Baramut's memories.

Wind wizard Bercy has studied magic all his life as he wanders the land like the wind, earning him the nickname North Wind.

Bercy met several people in his life and went through several experiences and adventures.

Time passed, and she eventually became an old woman.

Maybe because he traveled from one place to another throughout his youth?

For now, he wanted to live the rest of his life in a quiet place.

Therefore, he came to the Quiet Lavero Forest.

The forest was very quiet and secluded from the outside world, making it a good place to spend the rest of his days in peace.

Bercy built a cabin in the woods and lived in it.

He eventually finds a tiger cub who lost its mother and decides to take it back to his cabin and take care of it.

"Hm. I have to give you a name... Aye! Let's go with Baramut."

In ancient languages, Ba means north, Ra means wind, and Mut means son. So, the name Baramut means that it is his son, the North Wind.

That's how their relationship started.

Bercy and Baramut treat each other like mother and son, creating many memories together.

Baramut grew rapidly under Bercy's love and protection.

By living with a wind witch, Baramut learns how to control the wind, and becomes a unique creature that far surpasses ordinary tigers.

It also grew three times larger than the average tiger, so they were unable to stay in their cabin any longer.

Because of this, Bercy and Baramut made the largest cave in the forest their new home.

Around this time, Baramut had become the ruler of the forest.

That was when the Quiet Lavero Forest became a Baramut Hunting Ground.

A few years passed...

No one can oppose death.

Death has come for Bercy.

"Thank you for everything Baramut."

He caressed Baramut's head as he breathed his last.

Confused by his death, Baramut roared for three days and three nights.

Even after his death, Baramut continued to protect him. So that no one can disturb his peaceful rest ...

After seeing the memories that were inside the memento, Kang Oh now understood everything.

The reason why Baramut so desperately attacked them, why he faced them here rather than running, and his last act before dying.

It's all for Bercy.

'You're fine for a tiger.'

Kang Oh scratched his cheek.

It's an emotional story.

But it was all for him.

Even so, it didn't feel right for him to ignore everything he saw and leave.

Therefore, Kang Oh decided to pay his respects to Bercy and Baramut.

"I'll let you guys be together."

Kang Oh put down the comb and left Bercy's house.

"Master Kang Oh!"

At that moment, Eder entered the cave.

"The right time."

He still needs a worker.

"Did you defeat Baramut alone?" Eder looked at Baramut's corpse and asked in surprise.

"You obviously didn't help, so yeah."

"As I thought, you're absolutely amazing!"

Eder thumbs up to match Kang Oh's humor.

“Terlarah. Start digging,” said Kang Oh.

"Digger? Why?" ask Eder.

"I want to bury them."

"Baramut?"

“Ya,” replied Kang Oh.

Eder just looked at Kang Oh, as if saying 'Why did you suddenly do something unusual?'.

“Bercy too,” added Kang Oh.

"Bercy?"

Eder tilted his head. This was the first time he had heard that name.

Kang Oh tells him a short version of the story of Bercy and Baramut.

"So that's what happened."

Eder stood up for a moment in amazement.

"We should bury the Baramut, so make sure to dig it wide and deep enough. I'll wait outside the cave."

"okay."

Kang Oh leaves Eder alone and goes out.

Eder conjured two giant hand bones with his magic.

Even though his bone hands were big and strong, they were too slow to be used in actual combat.

Instead, they are very useful for activities like this.

He pretended to sweep the ground with his hand, and the gigantic bone hand followed.

Sir! Sir! Paahk! Sir!

The ground inside the cave was soft, so he was growing quickly.

Kang Oh returns while Eder is still digging.

He came back with a giant solid piece of wood tied up on his shoulder and a white flower sandwiched between his teeth.

"Hoo, shall we start?"

He dropped the wooden rod, put the flower to the side, and raised his sword.

He cut the wooden rod and started making grooves.

'This should be enough.'

Kang Oh clapped his hands and nodded his head.

He has created a coffin!

A coffin large enough to even fit for a giant Baramut.

Of course, it was not well made, but rather made simply and roughly.

But even though he was not an expert carpenter, this was an adequate coffin.

"I'm done digging. Is the hole big enough?" ask Eder.

The tomb was wide and deep enough to contain Baramut's coffin.

"Yes. Put the coffin in it."

The bone hand lifted the coffin, and carefully placed the coffin in the tomb.

"Next, put Baramut in the coffin."

The bony hand lifted Baramut up easily and placed it inside the coffin.

It was a perfect fit for Baramut, so fortunately he did not need to rebuild the coffin as it was too small.

Kang Oh opens the tent and enters Bercy's house.

He took out a memento comb and approached Bercy.

"Excuse me."

He was worried that he would dissolve into particles of light, like a monster corpse, so he acted carefully.

"Is this old lady Bercy?" Eder asked as Kang Oh approached the grave.

Kang Oh did not deign to answer; instead, he carefully placed Bercy inside Baramut's coffin.

Baramut's body had been laid in the shape of a crescent moon, so he placed it inside the curve as if they were hugging.

Lastly, he took out a memento comb and placed it on Bercy's chest.

"Hoo."

Kang Oh sighed with restraint.

He felt relieved; he was worried that he would damage Bercy's body while carrying it.

"Mnn. That old woman is Bercy, right?" Eder asked again.

Kang Oh had already ignored him before, but Eder did not give up and asked again.

The question is also looking for an answer to 'Who is Bercy?'.

"He was a wind wizard. She gave the baby tiger the name Baramut raised her. You could say.she is Baramut's mother," explained Kang Oh briefly.

"I understand."

"Let's salute and finish."

"okay."

Kang Oh gently placed the white flower on top of Bercy and lowered his head to pay his respects.

Even Eder, whose skull could not be bent properly, bowed as much as he could. He was also trying to lower his eyes, or rather, the light in his eye sockets, as much as he could. This was all he could do for the two deceased.

They remained silent for a moment.

Kang Oh and Eder raised their heads at the same time.

"Should I close the lid?" ask Eder.

Now, all that's left is to close the lid and fill the grave.

Kang Oh nodded.

Bone hands inched forward and grabbed the coffin lid.

"Ah, wait a minute."

Kang Oh stopped him, as if he suddenly remembered something, and approached the lid of the coffin.

Whirr. Whirr.

Using the tip of his sword, Kang Oh carved an inscription on the lid of the coffin.

“I'm done. Put the lid on,” said Kang Oh.

The bone hand slowly placed the lid on top of the coffin.

Fortunately, the lid fits seamlessly.

Now, the inscription he made could be clearly seen.

"Eternally mother and son: Bercy and Baramut. Rest in peace" Eder read the inscription.

"Pretty good" Eder said.

"Cover it up."

"Good."

That bone hand pushed the pile of soil nearby and instantly covered the grave.

Eder controlled the bone hand with a smooth movement of his hand and used the rest of the earth to create a grave mound.

"Should I make a tombstone too?" ask Eder.

"It's okay. It's more than enough."

The awkward feeling he felt after knowing Bercy and Baramut's story had been resolved by now.

Kang Oh no longer wants to concern himself with Bercy and Baramut.

Instead, his attention had already turned to another place.

"Now, will we clear the basement!?"

The Quiet Lavero Forest.

Although this place did not seem like a dungeon due to the nature of its forest, it was undoubtedly the inside of a hidden dungeon.

Plus, this cave is the boss of a hidden dungeon, Baramut's house. In other words, the boss room.

It was also home to a witch known as the North Wind.

There should be more he can get here.

"God."

He couldn't help but laugh.

And yet!

Suddenly, Bercy's soul appears and carries Baramut's soul with him.

At the same time, a message appeared.

[Bercy's soul has taken Baramut's soul on a long journey to the afterlife.]

[This is only possible because you buried Bercy and Baramut together. Bercy has given you a small gift for your good.]

[Soul Bercy thanks you.]

[By inheriting the wisdom of the witch known as the North Wind, you have learned the passive skill of 'Wisdom of the North Wind'.]

[Magic +60]

[Soul +40]

'The Wisdom of the North Wind? Plus, my Magic and Mental stats increased by 100 points!'

Although it was a very interesting notice, Kang Oh felt confused.

It felt like Santa Claus came bearing gifts, even though it wasn't Christmas.

Besides, it's not the end.

[The soul of Baramut is grateful for allowing him to reunite with Bercy.]

[By inheriting the title of Baramut, you have learned the active skill, 'Tempest Tiger'.]

[Physical +60]

[Taste +40]

[The equipment Baramut left behind became stronger.]

[The equipment Baramut left behind has been upgraded to S-rank.]

'My Physical and Feeling stats went up by 100 as well!'

Kang Oh gaped.

One gained 3 stat points per level up.

If he wanted to obtain 200 pure stats through leveling up, then he would have to level up 67 times.

In other words, this reward was the same as leveling up instantly 67 times. He could not believe what had just happened!

'I didn't think I'd hit a jackpot this hard!'

All the more!

Kang Oh opened his inventory with trembling hands, and inspected the equipment Baramut had left behind.

[The Heart of Dignity Baramut]

Part of the Baramut set left behind by the Quiet Forest King Lavero, Baramut.

It was made from tiger fur, as well as an unidentifiable alloy. Light and tough, a treasure among treasures.

It contained wind power and gave an aura of dignity to its user.

Set effect +2: When you attack an enemy, wind damage is added to your attack.

Effect set +3: You can use Baramut's Roar once a day.

Set effect +4: When receiving a fatal blow, a wind shield appears to negate the attack. Cooling: 1 hour

Rank: S

Capability: Defense +300, Physical +50, Mental +30, Dignity +30

Any magic related to wind or skill damage +5%

Minimum requirements: Level 120, Physical 500, Wind Resistance 30%.

The minimum requirement can be ignored if the player has the title, 'King of the Lavero Jungle'.

Gulp down.

It was an extremely well-designed armor, made by mixing silver metal and tiger fur.

Plus, it was an S-rank armor and part of a set.

Kang Oh was silent.

Only one word kept ringing in his mind repeatedly.

'Jackpots!'

There are three pieces of equipment left.
