I spent the day on the field after last night disappointed with Richard who doesn't even remember we had a date.
There's the sound of cars outside, what Sir Xavier came here for.
"Boss you coming?" I asked Alma. I never came here on weekends.
"Ohh yeah, he used to come here, but he went back to Manhattan and took a bath in a bungalow." I may not have seen him for a month. Mason's problem was notified over the phone and I only reported the home issue over the phone.
Soon the one being talked about appeared inside the house.
"Why did you show up here this weekend?" He pointed at me while shaking my waist. He knew I was here, looking at my car outside.
"I don't have anything to do. So I come see the project, I can buy strawberries to Salma if I go home. A little change in kitchen design because tomorrow they start renovating the kitchen." I gave you a technical reason. Not a reason for the heart, of course.
"This is dusty and messy. My mind's a little messed up if it's here, I go to the garden first." Sir Xavier quickly disappeared from his house which was indeed being torn apart. A lot of scaffolding was installed because the wall was quite high, I ignored it and still talked to Mr. Bufford for a while.
Shortly after my work I went into the garden looking for him. He was in the garden helping the men harvest the row-row of carrots.
"It's a sport for you sir."
"It's almost like that." He and the men wear boots and wide-woven hats that I think are typical Mexican.
"Aren't you usually coming on weekends?"
"It's okay to just want everything in order, I just changed the picture and wanted the project head to know the change so he didn't take the wrong step." He watched my expression for a moment, but then said nothing.
"You need a carrot."
"Can."
"Jaquez, clean it up and give it to Miss Allison."
"I'm going to Salma to buy some strawberries, I bought some carrots, I bought them too, it's their crop I don't take it for granted." Lately if I meet Salma I always buy strawberries, if there are other fruits I will be happy, but not yet there later in the new spring some may be ripe.
"Yes, it's up to you."
Phone rings. I saw the screen. Turns out Richard, what else is he calling. I took a breath before lifting it up.
"Richard what's going on?"
"What if I pick you up tonight. We're having dinner together? It's up to you to choose a place." Why does it feel de javu, he'll bring me flowers tonight, give me sky-high compliments for tonight and then steal my kiss.
"Can't I work."
"Saturday you work."
"Yes." Yeah."
"You're angry at me, aren't you. Next time it won't happen again."
"Why those words feel familiar to Ric, not once did you say them. What will happen next is equally familiar. Never mind, don't call again. I hung up, I'm busy."
"I'm not..." Cut her. I spoke well last night. But today he made my day feel bad so I'm tired.
"I told you I have a job. I hung up on him." I turned off the phone and put it in my pocket. Sir Xavier looked at me.
"It's very efficient." Sir Xavier made a comment while grimacing.
"I am efficient." I left Sir Xavier and went to Salma. I think I need to buy flowers for myself. The roses and dahlias that Salma and Alma had planted were quite comforting to me.
