“You're not a fool, Hero. Here, try this — drag him and ask him if he really wants to send his son to jail for the rest of his life for something that is actually the doing of Arrsyanendra. Make the man feel so guilty about her. Look how he reacted. Maybe you could offer to lower the charges against his son if he admits what really happened.
By saying that it was just an accidental accident and if he admitted it, then the next decision would be on the jury, whether they would be sympathetic or not. Let Arsyanendra think he has the possibility of being free of charges and maybe he will admit everything without him realizing that we've framed him for admitting his own crimes."
“Hey, that's a good idea,” Wira agrees. “I had to bring someone from the Prosecutor's office to watch as Arsyanendra confessed, that way might work.”
Jilena's phone started buzzing in her hand. “Hey, Wira, sorry I have an important job all of a sudden. Tell me later how it goes. ”
He clicks on one incoming call and connects to the next call. "Hello, this is Jilena."
“This is Hardi from your father's law office. I have to meet you. Do you have time to meet me at the office later in the afternoon? Maybe around four?”
Jilena checked her watch. “Yes, I thought I could do it back then. What is this about?”
"I'll tell you when you get here."
...*...
Jilena arrives home and is busy writing articles and stories about high school students and their beloved auditorium. Half an hour later, Jonathan called. “Detective Wira told me about your conversation and I have to say that what you said earlier to him was a smart idea.”
“I'm glad to be able to help,” he said.
“Wira asked Deputy District Attorney Bambang Prayogo to call Mr. Arsyanendra and ask him to go down to the police station to speak, that there are new developments related to the Noah case. Of course, Arsyanendra says he will be there soon and he will bring his lawyer.”
“I hope police officers don't say anything.”
"No, there's no room to talk" Jonathan said. "They'll all be here soon."
A happy smile fell on Jilena's lips. "I wish I could see the interrogation."
Will Jonathan catch the clue he just gave him? “You do have a good observation, don't you?"
"Yes, but I don't think the Captain would do that."
“Hey, that was my idea, Detective. Besides, does the Captain have to know?"
Jonathan avoided the question. "I'll talk to you later." Jilena grabbed her bag and ran to her car. The article was finished and he emailed the editor, but the auditorium story still took a little more time to complete. The article about the auditorium can still wait — I will not likely miss the interrogation this time.
As soon as Jilena slid behind the wheel of her sports car, she glanced at the watch in her hand. Mr Arsyanendra's interrogation will begin at four and he has promised his father's legal partner he will meet him at four. The girl thought maybe she could do it quickly. The lawyer may just want him to sign some attestation documents.
"Jilena, nice to meet you." He offered her his hand and she shook it. "Please sit first.” he said in a low voice.
Jilena sat on the edge of one of the club chairs across from her desk. "I can't stay long. Why do you want to meet me?” Jilena opened the conversation.
"In that case, we'll do it quickly." He took out a small flat pack from the drawer and placed it on top of his desk. Jilena studied it with curiosity. The package was the size of a small book or perhaps a framed photograph, Jilena guessed, but it was definitely a personal item because it was wrapped in plastic with a sticky seal on it.
“In your father's will, there was an instruction from him that I should give this to you after his death, within a week of the reading of the Will. No one else but you should have opened it.” said Mr. Hardi.
Now he's really curious. "What's that?"
He handed her across his desk right in front of Jilena. "Open."
Jilena tore off the plastic, broke the seal, then lifted the box cover.
"That's a DVD." He looked at Mr. Hardi. "Do you know what it is?"
Hardi shrugged without commitment and then got up from his seat to turn around from behind the table. “Instruction your father told you to watch this DVD here in my office. Can you sit there?" He pointed to the other end of the office to a conference table and a wall-mounted television. Jilena stood up and followed, her stomach wrapped around anticipating what she would see. Whatever it was, he had no idea why the DVD was earmarked for him.
He extended his hand. "Let me put it in the DVR and get it ready for you" Hardi said.
Confused, Jilena handed over the DVD and sat down across the table. “There is an idea what the contents of the DVD are about?” ask Jilena while twitching her forehead.
"Sorry, I have no right to say it" Hardi said, turning on the television and inserting the DVD into the device. “Papa is dead, Mr. Hardi. What difference does it make now? Sir can tell me."
"Watch it through to it. I'll leave you alone, but if you need me, I'll be outside.”
The man walked out and closed the door. DVD is playing. The familiar face appeared, it was his father, who was sitting behind his desk in the office room in this firm, with his hands clasped in front of him. What the hell is this?
"Hello, Jilena." His father took his eyes off the camera for a moment, looking agitated. Then, he took a deep breath then exhaled, his breath sounding rough and focusing his eyes straight ahead. It felt as if he was looking at her and a chill ran through the spine of the girl, knowing she would never do it again. He took a deep breath and clasped tightly.
“If you're watching this, it means papa must be dead. I don't know how old you are right now, but hopefully mature enough to forgive me and forget all the past.”
Forgive her? Would he apologize for all the hostility between them? Now it makes sense that the video was just for him. Jilena pressed her lips and squeezed her hands tighter as she watched, her eyes glued to the TV screen.
